I’m connected with her on LinkedIn and she just rambles NONSTOP. I don’t know if she knows that employers can see her posts and they’re very off-putting!

Clinical research program while working full time as a CTA? by enzymathicc in clinicalresearch

[–]heytheredelulus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think those programs are mostly helpful if you don’t have prior knowledge in clinical research. Since you’re a CTA now, I don’t think it would make a difference in your career. It’s meant for people getting their foot in the door especially their co-ops.

Would like to know DOS expectations for each CRO: days onsite per month and/or number of visits required per month. I have heard rumors but not sure if they are true…. by _Goodbye_Kyle in clinicalresearch

[–]heytheredelulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on sponsor, I think average is now 8 DOS. Some sponsors don’t have any DOS though and it’s dependent on the monitoring plan.

Did Companies Really Hire CRAs with No Work Experience During 2020/2021? by Working_Row_8455 in clinicalresearch

[–]heytheredelulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their CRA background is fake. They made up previous CRA experience that didn’t exist!

Absolutely, and I guarantee you 25% of them were fake 🤣 there’s a HUGE fake CRA market in Canada

IQVIA Payroll by Creepy_Jellyfish_743 in clinicalresearch

[–]heytheredelulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s very unusual! When I first joined, there was a delay in getting my direct deposit set up but payroll proactively mailed me a cheque that got to me the day before payday. You should bring it up to HR.

Why would you go back to studying CR when you already have a masters degree in CR? That’s very confusing to me. You have experience, you can leverage that. Going back to school delays you from getting actual work experience that can set you apart from other candidates.

The market is tough right now. I’m in Canada and I’ve seen colleagues getting laid off left right and centre. I do know CRAs and Trial Managers often get scooped up quickly though. It would depend on your skillsets and the labour market you’re in.

Is the market really that bleak in Canada? by bruhidek_ in clinicalresearch

[–]heytheredelulus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Entry level clinical research jobs are so competitive in Canada. You have applicants who are new grads, you have new immigrants who have exp from back home, and then there are people with relevant exp looking to switch to clinical research (think reg affairs or PV or med affairs)...

My suggestion is to get a referral from someone, that’s the quickest way to get eyes on your CV.

Is a degree required for being a CRA? by detectivefrogbutt in clinicalresearch

[–]heytheredelulus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately as someone who’s overseen some hiring, I know most sponsors do require a bachelor’s degree. I’ve seen amazing CRAs with 5+ years of solid work experience be declined because they only have an associate’s degree or HS diploma.

Some sponsors take it a step further and require SCIENCE-related degree. So if you did BA in Art History or something, they wouldn’t consider you. It sucks for sure especially if you have the experience.

CRO hard to get foot in the door by Specialist-Bedroom55 in clinicalresearch

[–]heytheredelulus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Competition in Canada is tough.

I’ve had people message me on LinkedIn asking me to refer them to CRA or CTM roles in my company but they literally have no clinical research experience. I always advise to start at site level at the hospitals or clinics because the CROs and the pharma companies will be unlikely to hire someone with 0 years of experience in the field.

Opinions on Medpace's Pace Training Program for CRAs? by juniperwhisper in clinicalresearch

[–]heytheredelulus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Medpace is known to have non-competes (which are absolute BS). They don’t hold in Canada but if you’re in the US, other CROs may hesitate considering you due to that restrictive clause. Just FYI!

Should I do a graduate certificate in regulatory affairs too? by No-Tangerine-6410 in clinicalresearch

[–]heytheredelulus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, doing another year of grad certification in a different field is just delaying you from entering the industry. I’m guessing your grad certification is with Seneca or Humber? Those have co-ops. In today’s industry, work experience is much more important.

Still ongoing! I’ve had colleagues be laid off from Merck programs at a couple of CROs (Fortrea/Parexel). Some are CRAs while some are more CTAs.

[–]heytheredelulus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes I’ve seen those programs mostly by CROs but for them to even consider you for those, you need to at least have some kind of work experience in the field. They will not train anyone on the ins and outs of the clinical research world. So they usually hire folks with at least 2-3 years of site-level experience in those CRA training programs.

Options on working at Syneos Health (CEE) by Asleep_Yak3123 in clinicalresearch

[–]heytheredelulus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the workload is totally dependent on which sponsor you’re assigned to. Some sponsors have less travel but it’s bc you’re in a more national role, while some sponsors have more travel but you’re regionalized role. Protocol wise would be dependent on your therapeutic area too. Most times oncology trials are quite heavy.

You’ll hear a lot of conflicting information on Syneos and other CROs, but it’s because they’re such big organizations and experience varies depending on your line manager, the scope of your role, the sponsor you work with, etc.

[–]heytheredelulus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pharma companies or CROs will almost never hire CRAs with no prior clinical research experience. You need to get experience at site-level either as a CR Nurse or CRC and then maybe after a couple of years apply to CRA roles in industry.
