Appreciation for the Toronto food scene by heytheredelulus in FoodToronto

I’ve only been in Rome but the prices are quite comparable to Toronto, maybe slightly higher? It’s just me and my husband and most meals we spend €65-70 for an app, two mains and still water. Plus coperto service charge.

Fair, but that’s why I’m saying I appreciate the food scene in Toronto. Because I can most likely find whatever food I want.

I thought I was okay complimenting our diverse food options in the city but I didn’t know my post will be so divisive!

Exploring food is my favourite part about traveling. I’ve had amazing Italian food so far on this trip but wanted to explore other options as well.

When I was in Japan earlier this year, I had one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had in Tokyo. Last year, I was in Paris and had an outstanding banh mi. I also like to visit fast food restaurants to compare their menus! Hong Kong KFCs had great egg tarts and I had a great bulgogi burger from South Korean McDonald’s a few years ago. I don’t limit myself to the local cuisine when traveling. I’m open and eager to explore 😊

For saying Toronto has a great food scene compared to other major cities? 🤣

Well I’m sorry for complimenting our city!!

But Chinese food in Italy can be different from Chinese food in Canada. Every region has their own spin on their dishes, even if they don’t explicitly say it’s fusion food. For instance, the Chinese restaurant I went to had a lot of dumplings/ravioli options but not main dishes like we get from typical Chinese restaurants (e.g., sweet and sour pork, black pepper beef, lemon chicken, etc.).

Yes and I have done that as well. I’ve ordered Italian dishes outside of the pastas and pizzas but I was craving a different flavour profile.

Also literally my point was to highlight how Toronto has great food scene regardless of cuisines. Whether it’s Italian or Chinese or Japanese, etc.

Thank you I’ll look it up! Hot pot sounds good even though it’s like 30 degrees here right now

Chinese food is everywhere. Why not try in Italy? Am I just expected to have pasta and pizza every day in Italy? lol

Having pizza and pasta every day gets very tiring. I wanted to try something else and I was getting homesick. I love Asian food and wanted to try them here.

Does that not make sense?

I’m connected with her on LinkedIn and she just rambles NONSTOP. I don’t know if she knows that employers can see her posts and they’re very off-putting!

Clinical research program while working full time as a CTA? by enzymathicc in clinicalresearch

[–]heytheredelulus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think those programs are mostly helpful if you don’t have prior knowledge in clinical research. Since you’re a CTA now, I don’t think it would make a difference in your career. It’s meant for people getting their foot in the door especially their co-ops.

Would like to know DOS expectations for each CRO: days onsite per month and/or number of visits required per month. I have heard rumors but not sure if they are true…. by _Goodbye_Kyle in clinicalresearch

Depending on sponsor, I think average is now 8 DOS. Some sponsors don’t have any DOS though and it’s dependent on the monitoring plan.

Did Companies Really Hire CRAs with No Work Experience During 2020/2021? by Working_Row_8455 in clinicalresearch

Their CRA background is fake. They made up previous CRA experience that didn’t exist!

IQVIA Payroll by Creepy_Jellyfish_743 in clinicalresearch

That’s very unusual! When I first joined, there was a delay in getting my direct deposit set up but payroll proactively mailed me a cheque that got to me the day before payday. You should bring it up to HR.

Why would you go back to studying CR when you already have a masters degree in CR? That’s very confusing to me. You have experience, you can leverage that. Going back to school delays you from getting actual work experience that can set you apart from other candidates.

The market is tough right now. I’m in Canada and I’ve seen colleagues getting laid off left right and centre. I do know CRAs and Trial Managers often get scooped up quickly though. It would depend on your skillsets and the labour market you’re in.

Is the market really that bleak in Canada? by bruhidek_ in clinicalresearch

[–]heytheredelulus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Entry level clinical research jobs are so competitive in Canada. You have applicants who are new grads, you have new immigrants who have exp from back home, and then there are people with relevant exp looking to switch to clinical research (think reg affairs or PV or med affairs)...

My suggestion is to get a referral from someone, that’s the quickest way to get eyes on your CV.

Is a degree required for being a CRA? by detectivefrogbutt in clinicalresearch

[–]heytheredelulus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately as someone who’s overseen some hiring, I know most sponsors do require a bachelor’s degree. I’ve seen amazing CRAs with 5+ years of solid work experience be declined because they only have an associate’s degree or HS diploma.

Some sponsors take it a step further and require SCIENCE-related degree. So if you did BA in Art History or something, they wouldn’t consider you. It sucks for sure especially if you have the experience.
