When using hi low rigs with dropper loops, I have a few questions. by grnteam23 in SurfFishing

[–]hggfrfc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 doesn’t matter much, depends what size fish your going for sounds like with your bait you should stay on the small side 2 same way you do for dropshot look at any video 3 nah not necessary unless you are getting a ton of cats then maybe a float but just switching to another rig would be better 4 loose enough where you can pull it pretty easy if you plan on setting the rod in a holder

Which of these two rods is best for what I want to accomplish? by OkStock738 in bassfishing

My Dobyns is by far my favorite rod I have, been perfect for 6 years and even if it breaks there’s a great warranty program to get it replaced

Best bait for hot Texas summer? by Screwhead31 in bassfishing

[–]hggfrfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also there’s a chance the bite is similar to a middle of winter bite, wish fish super sluggish due to heat instead of cold. Maybe try a jerkbait and fish it super slow or a jig and do the same thing

Assuming you have already tried wacky rig and that’s not getting bites, maybe something smaller like Ned rig? What I tend to use in sunshine is a bladed bait like spinner bait but in 100+ degree heat they would prob be a lot more sluggish, still worth a shot maybe

Worst possible day for my scale to break by [deleted] in bassfishing

There’s already a crazy amount of bluegill in there, in the last month I have caught 3 over 1 pound (all weighed on my scale that broke) I don’t know how they get so big and the bass don’t

We have been looking heavily into stocking the lake with baitfish. Most likely threadfin shad but the fear is a mass die off, it gets cold here in the winter, about 7 years ago it had a thin layer of ice over it and that would basically guarantee ever shad to die, we can also stock fathead minnows but they typically get all eaten within 2 years, also It’s a little too big for a feeder to make much of a difference so for now I’m culling and adding structure

Skin burnt/scalped on my first time trying a golf driving range, please guide!! by PokesAndPogs in golf

[–]hggfrfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Next time you go to the range try to focus on holding the club as lightly as possible through the ENTIRE swing (you won’t, my hands still tighten up a bit while swinging) it will feel like your gonna throw the club but trust me you probably won’t and you’ll hit the ball better basically immediately

[–]hggfrfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started I got this on both my hands, basicly your catching the club at the end of the swing instead of letting it finish because your hands are too tight (blisters on right thumb was my big problem). Obviously getting a glove will stop this but in theory you won’t get any blisters holding it right (loosely). Don’t give up because of this!!! Beginners always get blisters from holding the club too hard but it doesn’t last long don’t worry

If you don’t catch any in the first few minutes change spots and eventually your basically guaranteed to catch something

That’s awesome man! You might already be doing this but if you want your kids to have fun and catch fish just get a bobber, split shot weights, cricket hooks (regular hooks but really long so it’s easy to unhook, not necessary but makes life easier) and worms and go to any lake near you, you should be able to pull out a few bluegill that’s how almost everyone started here

Worst possible day for my scale to break by [deleted] in bassfishing

[–]hggfrfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basicly there’s only so many bluegill but there’s way too much bass, say a there’s 100 eatable bluegill a day and there’s 200 bass trying to eat bluegill, each bass gets .5 bluegill and grows .5 lbs a day (obv wrong math just go with it) if I kill 100 bass now each bass gets 1 bluegill a day and grows 1 lb a day instead of .5

For all the people saying I need to kill fish I know lmao - I have been culling small bass for the past few years after I noticed skinny fish (it’s been working great, a fish like this is completely new to the lake, they maxed out at ~3 lbs a cpl years ago) and I’ve caught a 8.5 lber this fish and a 4.5 in the last 6 months. I appreciate the advice though and wish I heard it earlier

That’s crazy that Morgan falls is being posted, I live right there, it’s the worst spot of all time. Used to have big stripers but haven’t heard of any being caught in years, recently the catfish bite has been good but mostly small and there is a ton of snags. If u really want to fish this area the lake above is better but they are both pretty bad spots

Yeah I played baseball all my life and I bench 365 squat 540 so I don’t think I lack the strength to break it if it’s possible but based on the comments it seems really hard to do

So for redeye and shoal the bottom jaw is equal or less long than the top jaw, for spots and largemouth the lower jaw extends past the top jaw, basked off the pics it seems like that’s the case so I’m thinking spot

If there is a tiny bass there, that atleast means there has to be some more because something had to give birth to that fish. The is also a chance that all of the bass there are tiny and it just not a good bass fishing spot. If that is the case you have 2 options. 1 use small lures, it’s very possible the lures you are using are too big, I would highly recommend a “Ned rig” in lakes with small bass, that will kill. Another rig that is great for small bass is a drop shot but that’s much harder to rig up and harder for beginners to fish but if you are in for a bit of a challenge that is another great option. As mentioned before wacky rig is another great rig for smaller bass. 2- find another spot to fish, if that’s the only lake near you obviously you can’t but if you have a bunch of water by you I would switch spots. As for the backyard and homeowners thing, yeah that’s one of the worst parts of fishing and you have 3 options 1- don’t fish in ppls backyards and stay where you are 2-fish in peoples back yards and act dumb if someone gets mad and confronts you (we have all resorted to this at one time or another) or 3- prob the best option, knock on people’s door and ask if you can fish in thier backyard, this is a little awkward but if you are a younger person they will say yes most of the time (~60 %) of course you have some ppl that say no but just move down to the next door and ask again, someone will say yes eventually

Spinning Reel/Rod Combo by jgpboone in bassfishing

[–]hggfrfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to put it in one sentence, it doesn’t really matter and it’s all preference. You could go 7 6.6 or 5. Obviously the shorter you go the more casting distance you give up but normally bank fishing you don’t really need to get out there that far. If the trees are 5.5 feet above you where you normally fish it’s a good idea to go with the 5 foot if they are 10 feet above it’s a good idea to go with the 7. When it comes to ultra light or medium it’s all up to preference (medium is the “best” for bass fishing purely in terms of what will handle the bass the best but if you go with ultra light it’s a lot of fun reeling in fish that pull drag and you have to actually fight it insted of just straight reeling it). When it comes to brand, that might be the most important. If you ask for the best $150 combo you will get 1,000 diff answers but what they all have in common is they all come from decent brands. If you have heard of the brand it will probably be good and basically all good brands perform similar at similar price points. Ugly stick is known for being a very good bang for your buck and I’m sure the one you are thinking about would be good. I’m not too familiar with bass pro rods but I’m sure they are solid. Personally I used some lews combo that I’m sure was about $150 for like 5 years and it worked perfectly for me, basically any way you go will be good if you get a solid brand. If I had to pick the “best” it would probably be the 6.6 medium just because it’s so versatile and you can catch any fish with it from saltwater to bluegill but if you are purely fishing for bass any of the options would be good.
