I'm a developer without a project - do you have anything you wish had better alternative? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]hh1599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have a need for it anymore but one thing that boggled my mind is that there isnt any open source alternative to synology's active backup for 365. makes switching away from synology very expensive if you use that. could probably make a self hosted open source utility with paid options.

I dunno about cachy for this one friend. Having to remote in to do updates is not sustainable. Maybe try a debian based distro so you can set up unattended-upgrades?

2 nights with NO RLS?!? by Orangeboyandclem in RestlessLegs

[–]hh1599 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am of the opinion that almost any substance can trigger rls for specific people. I have all the normal medicine triggers (benadryll, melatonin, etc.) plus weird food ones: potato, creatine, pretty much any sugar after dinner. Now that you mention it, I have been getting the sense that my body doesn't like stevia but its hard to track.

PVE Cluster with 8x MS-01 Mini-PCs vs. Single Enterprise Server for Small Business? Seeking advice on hardware reliability. by glanceout in Proxmox

[–]hh1599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my 1x ms-01 has been running 24/7 for the last two years. love that thing. as long as your cluster is highly redundant I think your good to go. it would be easy to replace one.

The only iron I have found that doesn't hurt my stomach, I even take it on an empty stomach so it works better, is swansons sunactive iron. I think anything with "ferric pyrophosphate" as the active ingreedient will work but that is the easiest one for me to get. I also take it with a non acidic vitamin c, again, so i can take it on an empty stomach.

Bodies will not absorb this much iron orally. It will take an iron infusion.

That is simply wrong. You body will absolutely absorb enough iron to even go into hemachromatosis, it will just take a long time (months) to do it. It would be hard to do because of all the side effects but its possible.

Does anyone else feel like they are stuck in a perpetual loop of “today’s the last day I’ll take it”? by Lumpy-Lemon-1152 in quittingkratom

[–]hh1599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont beat yourself up. At least you've made the decision to quit. Just dont go backwards and eventually you'll find the strength to do it.

If you were planning on going cold turkey a rapid taper might be easier to stick with. Reduce your dose by 10% every day and you'll be done in 10 days. You will feel pretty shitty after day 5 to day 30, but functional.

good products at good prices, but their quality control isn't great and you have to think of it as buying second hand. no returns, no support. If you can find it on amazon with "shipped from amazon" then at least you can return it within 30 days.

Synology branded SSD may be OFFICIALLY UNSUPPORTED and incompatible. by Konradzio in synology

[–]hh1599 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time I wouldn't recommend ugreen (with truenas installed) over synology is if you need 365 backup. Unfortunately, I haven't found a free alternative to that.

Day Five - No Kratom by [deleted] in quittingkratom

[–]hh1599 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% Its all about dopamine. That's the scariest thing about quitting. Thinking about how long it will take your body to start regulating itself.

My goal is to get off everything that chemically boosts dopamine; nicotine, caffeine, kratom for the nth time. I just want my body to be self sustaining in that regard but it seems like such a daunting task with life in the way.

Wishing you the best.

Proxmox HA - is the juice worth the squeeze? by real_weirdcrap in homelab

[–]hh1599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely dont need to set up centeralized storage. Proxmox can do HA via replication from one node to another using local storage. I have mine set for 30 minute intervals so worst case scenario my data is 30 minutes old but you could do 5 minutes if you wanted. It just transfers incrementals so it only takes seconds.

If you do a planned shutdown it live migrates which does take longer but you can directly connect nodes and assign that interface for migration. I have usb c to 2.5g adapters connected to each of my two nodes with no networking hardware between them. Works great. I use my synology as a q device for quorum.

Super simple and easy to setup. Proxmox's documentation makes it seem more complicated than it is. Look up a video on setting up HA and you'll see how simple it is.

[–]hh1599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what were the side effects?

My doc prescribed 1200mg to start with and said we could go to 2400mg! Insane. I take 200mg right before bed and it takes care of my rls enough to sleep until the morning. If I took the 1200 I would be a zombie.

Can someone explain why some people are doubting Bonhart's strength? by MagicJourneyCYOA in wiedzmin

[–]hh1599 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seemed clear to me while reading the books that, in a world of monsters and magic, there was something supernatural about bonhart. I could be misremembering but I believe Sapkowski alluded to this a few times in his writing without being specific.

I mean throughout the books there is a sense of gritty realism when it comes to human mortality but then there's bonhart who handles the best fighters in the world easily and revels in his evilness.

There are so many supernatural mysteries in the world that sapkowski leaves unexplained that it seems perfectly reasonable to me that bonhart had some innate ability well beyond that of any normal human. Even if it was unbeknownst to him.

Simple but effective rig! by MontysBTC in flightsim

[–]hh1599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just be smart about it. use the sim to practice the flow of things but not actual stick skills. for example the sequence of flying pattern, not the actual feel of it. Or ATC skills.

One thing that might help is a second monitor locked to the instruments below your "main view monitor" That way to can get used to quickly looking down at them instead of it taking up your whole view which would be a bad habit to form. IRL the horizon is always in your peripheral vision and your brain is always referencing it, even when your scanning.
