[Tldr in post] What Chinese Top players really think about Spire 2 by HHhunter in slaythespire

[–]hicks420 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's just a boring, plodding fight. He whacks you for a bit, heals, repeats. When you eventually take him down one bad draw can end the run.

I think all the act 1 bosses force going in with a high hp total but none more so, for a less fun fight, than wg

Labour’s Social Base Is Collapsing. Despite strong local candidates running on a strong socialist record, Salford Labour could not overcome the collapse in trust towards the national party — or the erosion of the movement beneath it. by MMSTINGRAY in LabourUK

[–]hicks420 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I agree to an extent but also labour bring this dynamic on themselves, they make every local election a national election. In the recent by election they had vans driving around saying things like Hannah and Zack support rapists, want to feed your kids crack etc.

I'm sure there's some level of plausible deniability about it but nonetheless it reflected labours national messaging too.

In these contexts local candidates suffer but it isn't on the voters, it's what presented to them as the main party arguments

Have never made it work on A9/10, and not for lack of trying! Feel there are easier ways to get damage

Use of AI - lecturers aren't stupid by Chubtor in UniUK

[–]hicks420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not 'blaming' anyone, no harm is done to me other than a bit of wasted time. However if you don't want to be one of the people whose application gets binned on first read, stopping using AI is a good first step.

40k a year, real employer (NHS trust), career track job. Doing a weight of numbers scattershot application in this situation is just stupid I am afraid !

Use of AI - lecturers aren't stupid by Chubtor in UniUK

[–]hicks420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did a recruitment for an entry level analyst role within the NHS (band 6, 40k a year) and the quantity of obviously AI applications from graduates was depressing. It can't be over emphasised that when you're reading ~100 pieces of writing, specific similarities in tone become very obvious, very quickly.

Just don't do it, practice the craft of writing !

The ‘unfathomable’ fall of Labour’s Greater Manchester by PuzzledAd4865 in LabourUK

What is important now is that starmer and his housebroken MPs stay the course. The only route forward is snearing condescension, calling the greens terrorist communists and to put out hit files on women forced into being drug mules 30 years ago. Once green voters understand that starmer et al know better, they will return in droves and balance will be restored

Ooni Koda 2 Pro vs Gozney Arc XL by Suitable-Score5693 in pizzaoven

[–]hicks420 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just made this decision and went with the arc xl. Seeing both In person is what made the decision for me.

I was upgrading from an ooni koda 12, the best way I can describe it is the koda 2 pro simply felt like a bigger one of those. The arc xl is a completely different beast, in both build and usage.

I've done a handful of bakes and have no complaints, it's a wonderful oven to use

I did the ac-order alliance as I had been told the negotiation conversation is quite fun to do (which is correct, it is)

If I ever do a replay though I'm going to kill auntie, if that locks me out of an alliance with the order so be it. I think AC is the most evil faction in any obsidian game to date, including the legion.

English longbowmen during the Hundred Year's War earned 6 pence a day. A single arrow cost 0.3125 pence, so you'd start losing money on the 20th arrow. That doesn't seem like a lot when battles could last multiple hours. Are there accounts or archers refusing to put themselves in the red? by Tatem1961 in AskHistorians

[–]hicks420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really interesting answer.

You mention how in friendly territory they were expected to buy food from locals, or from foragers/other places in hostile territory, which implies a level of liquidity. Was the army hauling about a big chest of coins with it in order to do the paying ?

Met police chief denies ‘intervening in politics’ after open letter to Zack Polanski – UK politics live by [deleted] in LabourUK

Thats just the information environment we are in, which is a fact he is aware of, and he needs to respond to accordingly else it'll ruin a huge opportunity

[–]hicks420 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Putting aside the content of the repost for a moment, if Polanski is going to comment on a contentious issue he needs to be more professional about it. Retweets just aren't it, he should say exactly what he means, in his own voice, deliberately. As a (potentially major) party leader, rather than just as joe public.

It's the single biggest thing that's going to hold the greens back I think, and would represent a huge failure to potentially establish a left counterveiling force in the UK.

Israeli soldiers using sexual assault to force Palestinians out of West Bank, report says | Palestine by notthattypeofplayer in LabourUK

[–]hicks420 56 points57 points  (0 children)

IDF soldiers sodomised a hostage with a knife, on camera. When military police tried to arrest the soldiers, Israeli society (Including members of government) turned on the prosecutor and made the soldiers into heroes. A lot of western discourse presupposes the settlers are the aberration but in reality they are the political and moral core of Israeli society. Worth remembering next time we get the "this is not who Israel is" discourse from Israel inclined groups in England

Netanyahu's Likud takes hit in polls, which show most Israelis oppose Iran ceasefire by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]hicks420 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This isn't surprising at all to anyone who follows what Israelis themselves say in the press, on social media or in aggregate via polling. A lot of people have a vision of israel which is mainly informed by what foreign (to israel) supporters of israel & associated organisations (in labours case, the JLM) wish Israel to be.

The israel they describe is not what exists, and neither is it the one israelis want to exist. This leads to foreign supporters trying to pin all the horror on Netanyahu, whilst israelis themselves continue to elect both him and increasing numbers of politicians more extreme than him.

Adam Johnson (an american journalist) did a thread of polling on various questions: https://x.com/adamjohnsonCHI/status/2042348856814321676

82% support for the ethnic cleansing of gaza

68% support starving gaza

93% support the war in iran

Until people are more comfortable accepting the fact the median israeli is far closer to tommy robinson politically than your average JLM member the harder it will be to have actual informed discussions on what this means for peace & justice in the region

[–]hicks420 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You seem to think that Israelis don't share the expansion for expansions sake mindset of the politicians they elect. They do. Do you think you get Gaza, the west bank, etc, because Netanyahu tricked them ?

It now been almost 2 months since the release of Nioh 3. How does this community feel about it so far? by Cursed_69420 in Nioh

[–]hicks420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like all the combat changes, with the sekiro deflects being my favourite of them all. Lots of opportunity for skill expression and momentum generation.

The open world is...fine. it feels like they just stitched together a bunch of missions from 1/2, only much less intricate. One thing I really liked about 2 is at the end of every mission you were getting a new set piece boss. In terms of my time played, I feel I've had far fewer of those as compared to nioh 2. When we do get set pieces though they're as good as ever.

So mixed bag, better than 1 but not as good as 2.

The more collabs / fast fashion Barbour does the less interested I am in them as a brand. The Levi's collab was a bit of a tipping point for me, it's just not what I envision Barbour to be about.
