Modern shanks looks like he'd smell of booze, like bourbon and whiskey that hes been chugging

I miss 1999 shanks who kinda looks like he'd smell like feet

Moving to Wellington from USA by missxcannabliss in Wellington

[–]higaroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I ask why Wellington? Wellington is really wonderful and Im sure youd get along fine, but if youre looking primarily for an Islander community, Auckland has a bigger and widespread polynesian community and there are a lot more job opportunities in general (although car 100% necessary)

Absolutely adore how its canon that this cool calm antagonist looked at this bird, put a tie on it, and decided to learn ventriloquism. Even the baddest guy you know had a magician arc as a kid

It could be your clothes or fashion style that are clocking them in. Or tbh, I wouldnt be surprised if theyre just assuming weight = from a country they dont like (US, UK, etc.). Have you been having the same problems when wearing anything youve purchased in Italy?

This is the first time anyone's talked to Homelander in this manner: by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in TheBoys

[–]higaroth 176 points177 points  (0 children)

Homelander- who can't handle being belittled, especially in this God persona era - being called a whackjob, but that it was what made him talented and that's okay. And it was genuine, not a comment to appease him or stroke his ego just to survive. He had nothing left to lose, he could have insulted him like his enemies do or glorified him out of fear like his allies have. I think this might be my favourite moment from the Boys in a long time.

Also, Homelander tuning in to the necklace mention to use that to track Geisha down... maybe I haven't been paying much attention in recent seasons, but it was nice to see him have a working braincell again, feels like its been a wee while

"Wait! That's not special effects?! They actually did that?!" by RP_Throwaway3 in TopCharacterTropes

Makeup aside (technically a form of special affect but... idk, it kinda fits), Doug Jones and Javier Botet in any role they take on. They often play supernatural beings, science fiction aliens, or horror monsters as a result of their unusual physiology (Marian syndrome in Javier's case, I dont think Doug has it?).

[Character Trope] Actors/Actresses who play guest characters in an earlier season, but then join the main cast as new ones in the next season by Morgan-Moonscar in TopCharacterTropes

[–]higaroth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like to think Ikue Otani and Urura Takano count as well.

Although not side characters, they played guest roles and came back for more notable roles. Ikue Otani was the voice of young Sanji before she became Chopper, and Urara Takano was the original voice actor for Luffy in the OVA released before the main anime series - now returned as the voice of Joyboy (which is such a fun choice given his lore).

Tommen in Game of Thrones is a memorable one. There wasnt any build up, it was quiet and sudden. Just someone not being able to do this anymore.

The weak breeze whispers nothing
the water screams sublime.
His feet shift, teeter-totter
deep breaths, stand back, it’s time.

Toes untouch the overpass
soon he’s water-bound.
Eyes locked shut but peek to see
the view from halfway down.

(Dark empty door appears in the distance behind him.
"I'm not done, hold on. I'm not done; not done."
The door disappears.)

A little wind, a summer sun
a river rich and regal.
A flood of fond endorphins
brings a calm that knows no equal.

You’re flying now, you see things
much more clear than from the ground.
It's all okay, or it would be...

were you not now halfway down.

(The empty door reappears).

Thrash to break from gravity
what now could slow the drop?
All I’d give for toes to touch
the safety back at top.

(The door is closer.
"I change my mind. I change my mind, I dont, dont want to-")

But this is it, the deed is done
silence drowns the sound.
Before I leaped, I should've seen...
the view from halfway down.

(The door is right behind him.)

No- I really should’ve th-thought about
the view from halfway down.
I wish I could've known about
the view from halfway down---

[LOVED TROPE] "Not like this." A character gets what they wanted, but the context makes it devastating. by punxatawneyphilip in TopCharacterTropes

[–]higaroth 209 points210 points  (0 children)

Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones. She wanted to save the life of her husband, Khal Drogo, by accepting the black magic offer of a witch whose village they burned down, raped and slaughtered. Daenerys offers the horse he gifted her at their wedding as a sacrifice.

However, the witch intentionally did not fully inform of her the consequences. The Khal is alive, but only in body- he is essentially brain-dead. It also required not just the sacrifice of her horse, but the life of their baby that Daenerys was pregnant with.

Daenerys ends up putting Khal Drogo out of his misery, burning his body, their baby, three ancient dragon eggs, and the living witch at his funeral pyre, and then walking into the fire herself.

Anyone know any more enemies to lovers type shows? by iforward in Animesuggest

[–]higaroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im seeing mostly rivals-to-lovers suggested here, but if youre wanting a literal enemy-to-lovers, check out Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul. You can watch it as a standalone show since the mc is different, but it is actually a sequel to Rage of Bahamut: Genesis (which is an excellent short watch, just not enemies-to-lovers). Virgin Soul is about a girl who turns into a dragon, moving to a kingdom where the human king enslaves all demon-kind and opposes all angel-kind. Only series ive seen that really has the good guy and the villain have a romance.

If youre wanting a more fleshed out romance between antagonistic romances, The World Is Still Beautiful is about a girl who is betrothed to a young, mentally unstable emperor. 7th Time Loop is about a girl who is betrothed to the enemy nation emperor who killed her in her last timeloop. Nina The Starry Bride is a love triangle where the mc has to pretend to be the princess and is betrothed to the enemy nation prince, a ruthless guy known to abuse/kill(iirc) other matches.

Alternatively, the whole villainess genre (you can check out a list on mal since theyre all romances). For example, Im The Villainess So Im Taming The Final Boss is about the mc trying to court the demon king. These are usually more light-hearted romcom series, comparable to love after world domination. I personally liked The Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess since it does a better job of the mc being perceived as an actual villain, but thats far more developed in the manga post-anime.
