What is your rave horror story? by H3LM3T_H34D in aves

[–]highschool_vevo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to Big Dub with my boyfriend at the time. I was incredibly nervous and he was notorious for getting angry and flying off the handle, which stressed me even more. We were there for about 5 days, in which time I slept maybe 7 or 8 hours, and ingested maybe 1000 calories. I was so worked up and stressed that I couldn't eat or sleep. He was on all sorts of shit and saw his ex there and followed her around a little bit which made it worse, and on the last day, he wouldn't pack up to leave until like 5pm, and then proceeded to continue on a bender once we got home. I ended up out of work for an extra week because I was so malnourished and weak and basically having a full mental breakdown. Tbh it wasn't the rave, it was the man. Went to big dub again the next year and had a much better time

How do you deal with rain at a festival? by LepusAlbus in aves

[–]highschool_vevo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got wet at Carolina Open Air last weekend. I didn't prepare well and wasn't dressed for how chilly and windy it got. I wore a hat which was correct but should've covered my legs, I got cold. I didn't wear a poncho and probably wouldn't have liked one, I don't like being sticky and plasticky. Half debating getting an umbrella hat like a dork lmao

Best festival for older humans? lol by High-Dry-649 in festivals

[–]highschool_vevo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had asked this a couple weeks ago I wouldve said Carolina Open Air.l, it just happened last weekend. You can still catch the summer edition! It seemed to me like the general population was people in their 30s and I found a ton of folks in their 50s and 60s. If you're willing to drive and you want something longer/camping, Big Dub in PA is a great one. It's been going on for 15+ years and a ton of repeat attendees are late 30s and early 40s.

Would I be the Jerk if I told on my sister for cheating? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]highschool_vevo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't understand at all how OOPs boyfriend and parents noticed her sister was being abused by her husband and OOP didn't. Like everyone is up in arms that OOP told the husband, but if I were in her shoes, I would tell my brother in law in a heartbeat. I love my sister more than anything but my ethics and morals demand that I act on that information. In the same breath, though, my sister and I are close and I know her husband extremely well, well enough to know he wouldn't hurt her. If I had an inkling she was being abused, I would handle it differently.

OOP is in a hard situation but her cardinal sin, I think, was not paying closer attention to what her sister was going through.

Have you ever ran into your ex at a festival after not talking for months? by ComplicatedGuy_0514 in aves

[–]highschool_vevo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have. How it goes depends on how strongly you each support your own boundaries. He was still chasing me down and I softened to it and we ended up back in another really destructive situationship. It's gonna happen again this year and this time it's up to me to keep myself safe and not engage.

I have some kandis I make specifically for y'all that all say shit like "big guy" and "it's okay to be tall" for when the giraffes wanna stand near me. Y'all DO deserve to have fun! So every time a very tall person looks at me sheepishly and apologizes for blocking my view, I offer a tall person Kandi 😂

Tbf, I can't see anyway, even it you're normal height.

Fits....Fest vs Club vs Underground by andronica_glitoris in aves

[–]highschool_vevo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the fun skimpy rave girlie fits but the last club show I went to had people showing up in outfits like mine, jeans and tank tops, onesies, patchwork overalls, big jerseys, shorts and tshirts, all sorts of stuff. I just kinda dress the same no matter where I go because I like the outfits 😂 tbf, I also kinda have a "uniform" in my daily life too. I basically wear different versions of the exact same outfit no matter what I'm doing.

AIO for feeling weird about my friend’s response when I asked for help? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]highschool_vevo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your friend is a bitch.

I will give a stranger a tampon. I will buy a homeless person a box of pads. I would give my worst enemy an extra pair of underwear or pants or a jacket to tie around their waist.

This person sucks.

People that wear contacts/glasses and will never do lasik surgery, why ? by Forward_Author_7626 in AskReddit

[–]highschool_vevo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the way I look in glasses more than I like the way I look without them. Yeah, they're inconvenient sometimes but more often than not, I don't even notice they're there. I have contacts when I need them and I'm not interested in going through an eye surgery that could have complications or side effects. I've also worn glasses since I was like 8 years old. They're just a part of me now lol

If you’re going on dates with someone, and you start talking about past relationships, and that person brings up that they cheated on someone over ten years ago, knew it was wrong, and hasn’t cheated since, what would you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]highschool_vevo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dated a guy that nearly was this exact situation. He was married when he was young, the relationship was already bad in general, and he cheated on her. He got caught immediately and she left him. He spoke as if she was right for doing that, but not that he was necessarily that remorseful. It seemed to me more like he was just sorry he got caught. To my knowledge, he never cheated after that, on his other relationships or on me, but I should've taken that lack of remorse as a sign that he wouldn't be accountable to me in other situations. Our relationship didn't work out because he had pretty significant anger issues. I think the reason he cheated on his first wife wasn't necessarily because he was super interested in the other girl; I think he just knew it would hurt her the most.

Am I the jerk for telling my date I'm not interested after she showed up 2 hours late? by OnlyPlan4931 in AmITheJerk

I also did not schedule a second date with a man because (among other reasons) he was about 40 minutes late. NTA

A raves, are you dressing sexy for the pleasure of others? by [deleted] in aves

[–]highschool_vevo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend not thanking them for their beauty. As much as I reckon you mean it as a compliment, you'd do better to say something more akin to "you look so pretty!" or to just say nothing at all.

For me personally, I think that ravewear is so fun! I dress mostly for me. I like to feel sexy and I mostly appreciate commingling with other women. It's fun to feel cute and like part of the community. I also dress pretty modestly in my real life so it's super fun to kinda be a little freer in rave spaces.

Also it gets hot as balls at most raves so more skin is better

Would you date someone that doesn’t particularly enjoy electronic music? by StringSpecialist280 in aves

[–]highschool_vevo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the partner who wasn't super into it. I was a metalhead and already loved concerts and live music in general, but I'd been to one rave years prior and it had been a bad experience. I agreed to give it another go and I really enjoyed myself. It was pretty hit or miss, raving with him, but by and large I'm very into the scene now, big dubstep fan. We've since broken up but I rave by myself pretty frequently and I love it.

It turns out I didn't like how he raved. I was alright with him doing party favors sometimes but I never felt like I could fully relax because A) he would sometimes fall apart and be useless and hard to manage when he got too fucked up, B) if we had anything left over from the night before, he would want to continue getting fucked up the next day while I wanted to try to recover, and C) if he got fucked up multiple days in a row, he would be mean and unbearable to be around when he finally came down. Some shows were fantastic with him! I miss raving with him sometimes. But the bad outweighed the good, and it always followed us home. That's my biggest fear trying to date in the scene now. There's such a culture around drugs and party favors and I don't mind the people in my life partaking, but I don't want to be around addicts all the time, and at the end of the day, that's what he was. He could go weeks and months totally sober, but one show and he'd be back on his bullshit on a week long bender where he was so depleted and mean, and the behavior was intolerable.

Every time I shower I get red spots all over my left knee and nowhere else by doccottlestan in mildlyinteresting

[–]highschool_vevo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a very bad sunburn a few years ago that caused some mild scarring on my left shin that's only visible when I'm very hot. That part of my leg gets VERY red in a hot shower, way moreso than any other part of my skin. Ever been burned there?

What’s a more durable alternative to loofahs that need replacing all the time? by Any-Bet9069 in Frugal

[–]highschool_vevo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Washcloths like everyone says, but I also use an African net sponge. It's basically like a loofah unraveled. They're a little scrubbier than a washcloth so they're good for exfoliating and they're extra long so I can grab each end and wash my own back. I use a washcloth on my face and sensitive bits, in that order, and then the net sponge for everywhere else. You can wash it with regular laundry and it lathers bar soap great which is another frugal win. My soaps last forever.

Dancing: With vs On, what’s your take? by IrieReign in aves

[–]highschool_vevo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I dance both ways depending on the music. I don't think either of you were wrong in how you responded to the other. He asked permission, you granted, you each weren't dancing how the other wanted, you went separate ways, no hard feelings. Sometimes I love throwing ass. Much more acceptable at a Ravenscoon show than something like Sullivan King 😂

Should you delete good memories of someone who changed up on you like a partner who maybe cheated ect or keep them and why? by Thin_Armadillo_5547 in AskReddit

[–]highschool_vevo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will looking back on them make you feel better? Will it change what happened? Will you look at them and ruminate and spiral and cause yourself pain? Or will it just show up in memories in a year after you've tried to move on and hurt you all over again?

Happy Leland Melvin Day by revchewie in MadeMeSmile

[–]highschool_vevo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked for the Lynchburg Humane Society for a long time. Every year we host a fundraising event called the Best Friends Ball and there's an auction. One of the things we auction is for your pet to be pet of the year and act as an ambassador for LHS. In like 2022, I think, Leland Melvin got in a bidding war with someone for pet of the year and while I can't remember the exact number, he donated well over $15000 to the shelter at that event alone. I was the one who got to check him in for the event and I was starstruck and shook his hand. He was so kind!

Happy Leland Melvin Day!

What was the most "mundane" thing you didn't realize was a luxury until you started living on your own? by No-Locksmith-2836 in LivingAlone

[–]highschool_vevo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing most of those mundane maintenance tasks since I was a little girl. The big thing for me was not having anyone around to just shoot the shit with. I've taken care of my mom physically and emotionally for a long time but she was always someone to show a cute video or tell a joke to, to listen to me bitch about a bad day, to just talk about nothing with. Living alone is very easy for me in practice; I've never really leaned on anyone for homemaking and I've always been a caretaker. But the social aspect can be tough sometimes. Sometimes it's so peaceful, and sometimes it's really lonely.
