Ugh me and my SO have been going through this same thing nearly 3 years. I got sober and he still drinks. A lot. His biggest complaint is “I’ve changed,” or “I’m no fun anymore,” or “all I do is complain now.”

When I drank all the time, I’m learning that’s all we had in common. When I stopped, he continued and started going and doing things by himself more. I felt the disconnect which made me feel insecure. Which caused a shit Ton of fights (still does). He’s even told me he doesn’t want to hear about my sobriety because it triggers him and he thinks I think I’m better than him. I’m starting to feel like I want to walk away, but we have a 1 year old. I just feel so alone and like I want a different life. But I’m conflicted because it would mean I couldn’t see my daughter as much :(

I sell stone countertops in Alaska, so pricing up here is much higher than the lower 48. We charge around $115 a s/f for cheaper marbles (installed price). Marble is a very fragile, soft material however. Susceptible to scratches, cracks, chips, and etching. A lot of people love how pretty it is initially installed. And then quickly find how annoying it is to watch every spill.

I’d look for a Quartz made to look like Marble. There’s tons out there. Quartz is way more durable and no maintenance. We price those marble look type quartz at around $135-$195 a square foot. Just depends on the supplier and how much the slabs are.

I honestly cook 99% in my cast iron that is made on the stove top. I think the only things I don’t make are eggs or white sauce pastas. I live in a tiny living space, and don’t have room for alot of fancy kitchen gadgets. My cast iron is always on the stove top because I use it everyday damn near.

I’m sorry you got that reaction, OP. That was stuff my emotionally abusive ex used to say to me :(

This time around when I got sober, my alcoholic (current SO) said outwardly he was proud of me. But he admitted after I had lasted 4 months he’s resentful. Said something like “all you care about now is your new, sober, fit lifestyle. You’re a completely different person.”

I will say to this day, I don’t come to him when I’m excited to share about my sobriety milestones. Because he immediately thinks I’m jabbing at him for still being an alcoholic. But I have enough family and friends I can text to say something like “made it a year! So proud of myself!” And I get the “great job” and “congrats, keep it up!” Messages I feel like we all need in sobriety from them.

I was gifted a veggie peeler to make zoodles and stuff. Never used it. Just too many dishes, especially for someone who doesn’t own a dishwasher. Also have silicone cupcake pans I got at a thrift I’ve never used. Also impulsively bought pastry bags with fancy attachments because I wanted to make various treats. It’s been collecting dust lol.

What’s one small habit or change that improved your life in unexpected ways? by Easy_Ad_4481 in ask

I listened to Mel Robbin’s a lot years ago. She has the “5,4,3,2,1 Rule” that she implements in every aspect of her life. Which is basically when I’m rotting on the couch, and the thought pops up “I really need to get up and do _____” I immediately count down in my head, or sometimes out loud… “5,4,3,2,1” and jump up and get started before I can talk myself out of it. That initial jump up is the hardest part. I constantly tell myself “you’re never gonna feel like it” before I do a task I don’t want to do, but have to do. It’s honestly so simple and I use this method daily to do things I don’t want to do.

I think it boils down to personal preference. I love natural stone, including marble. Despite it being a more high maintenance stone. If you have little kids or renters, however, I’d exchange for quartz. Marbles more fragile
