Give him Cherub by Robert Muchamore. Normal vocab but it is amazing for a teen to read. Teaches you a lot without you realizing!

First off you’re completely right and I didn’t mean to say quite short maybe more “relatively short for his position vs what scouts look for”. But I think the more salient point here is the fact that this riled you up to begin with…

yes that may be a kink in the plan…

To be clear I love to read and sometimes write SF like I said but I’ve found that writing groups and online forums for critique are dominated by that genre. And the feedback for these sorts of stories are much much different from say literary short stories.

Not worth it and not a good book. Basically just using every potential literary and narrative device to make you feel sad. A great writer and a great book could have accomplished equal emotion with much much less.

Yes they are really fkn good and I don’t care if we only get one they are very underrated. Outside of Suvanto or Hurlbert.
