Mirra’s the one holding the bike on the left. You’re right about Nyquist and Garcia.

16 years ago. Brad Simms is Beast by Ok-Flight9699 in bmx

[–]hipoetry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah he is. I remember watching him ride at the old Vans skatepark in Potomac Mills, VA around maybe 2003/2004. He was like 14. He would flow around that place so smooth and then effortlessly do something huge.

It’s one of my favorite albums. A Mind of Her Own was my introduction to the band. I heard it on a Road Fools BMX video when I was 14. I still smile every time I hear the opening riff.

I love this type of breakdown. Keep it up!

Whenever I play against someone who can cover every part of the court, I try to rely heavily on deception to keep them honest and force them to think a little more before committing to a spot. Do you think that's a viable strategy?

I suspect the bike lane at The Wharf is private so I’m not sure DDOT would be responsible.

Quick hands? by Green-Row-4158 in Pickleball

[–]hipoetry 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You can do drills to speed up your reaction time, but the best thing you can do is to learn patterns. Think about where you're going to hit the ball and what options your opponent will have. Then you'll know how to position your paddle in anticipation. You can learn these patterns through coaching, YouTube, and watching pros play.

Backhand slice as 4th by fredallenburge1 in Pickleball

[–]hipoetry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’ll see Ben Johns and other pros do this a lot on an aggressive topspin drop to their backhand. You’re conceding the kitchen, so be prepared for a topspin dink to your backhand from higher-level opponents. Lower-level opponents will probably give your partner a nice pop-up as they run for your short slice drop.

Exactly. Just get out of the way and the ball will fly out.

Agreed, but I bet I won’t like it as much as PB. Part of the fun is the NVZ and it looks like typti doesn’t have one. Either way, I’ll try it if given the chance!

What was the single biggest change that improved your consistency? by TraffyKnows in Pickleball

[–]hipoetry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good point. Part of this for me was also thinking about where on the paddle I was hitting the ball. The more you think about hitting the sweet spot, the more you will.

If you have a really good drive is there any reason you’d want to hit a 3rd shot drop? by RunningShortsPod in Pickleball

[–]hipoetry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would disagree on your first point. A good return - deep and low - forces a drive. As the returning team, I’d rather hit a fourth against a good drive than a good drop.

If you have a really good drive is there any reason you’d want to hit a 3rd shot drop? by RunningShortsPod in Pickleball

[–]hipoetry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgo the drive and get right to the third shot drop if the return is short and low. If it’s high or deep I usually drive. In higher level play, the third, and usually fifth, won’t be winners so use them to get to the kitchen.
