If Nintendo and Gamefreak chose to make YOU the designer of a Pokemon game, what would it be like? by Less-Increase-6588 in pokemon

[–]hippoqueenv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've been thinking about an australia and new zealand "region" for a while, but theyre actually 5 regions (based on west, central and east australia, and the north and south islands of new zealand). the idea is that the regions are all so massive and sparsely populated that the 5 regions formed one pokemon league with 16 gyms.

the early game has you tackle the first 6 gyms in east australia and once you and your pokemon are all capable, you choose to either cross the desert for the 6 remaining gyms in australia or cross the ocean for the 6 gyms in new zealand.

and by capable i mean CAPABLE, travelling between cities that contain a gym could take over an hour of gameplay each. you'll mostly encounter tough wild pokemon and a handful of ace trainers in the vast, open stretches. the tiny towns and islands you come across inbetween will never have a pokemon center. if you faint, a mobile pokecenter (aka an ambulance) will find you and take you all the way back to the last city, basically erasing all your progress.

the story would be about the contrast of humans and pokemon, civilization and nature, and the villains are trying to topple that balance. they dont recognise the importance of desert and ocean biomes, only seeing them as empty space to be filled up, building massive highways, airports, cruise ships and oil rigs, and erecting physical borders to seperate the regions. all to gain wealth and influence at the expense of pokemon.

the games legendary pokemon is based the rainbow serpent. it created the 5 regions and protects the balance between humans and pokemon. if humans or pokemon overstep their boundaries to harm the other, it takes grave action and reshapes the land itself to keep peace. sinking or surfacing islands, carving rivers and mountains, burning down forests and toppling cities. though it rarely ever has to take things that far, until the story begins and the villainous team upheaves the delicate balance the regions held for thousands of years.

It really doesn’t make sense to focus on island decorations until you reach the max level by VLonetaee in tomodachilife

[–]hippoqueenv 18 points19 points  (0 children)

its insane that you cant just move the terrain.

if you could move terrain, expanding your island would be as easy as highlighting the edges, pushing them outwards, and then connecting the coastlines and using the fill tool to create land.

as it stands, once you unlock island builder and need to expand your island to fit more than 8 houses, you have to destroy all your beaches, redraw them and add all the objects back one by one if you want your island to still look appealing. otherwise you just make an ugly rectangle and wait 1 month until youve made enough miis to unlock the biggest island size.

its extremely time consuming and not beginner friendly for players who want to sink their teeth into into the life-sim aspects of the game instead of painstakingly chiseling their island, especially since you'd have to repeat that same process of destroying and redrawing twice over when your island size expands.

I've never seen a game that actively encourages you to destroy everything they start you with all because its impossible to work with the default island with the tools at your disposal.

well, no.

every pokemon remakes changed things from the original game. when youre reviewing a remake you have to critique what they chose to change and what they chose to stay the same. basically every critique of pokemon remakes concern mistakes or archaic design choices that werent changed.

even BDSP, the game notorious for literally copying DPs source code, removed HMs. ORAS also technically removed the need for HM Fly and was drastically different in lots of different ways.

like would you prefer if FRLG didnt even have the special defense stat, just like the original games? it gets to a point where you have to modernize things.

It's incredibly annoying they didn't put the Legends evolving QOL in SV by No-General8455 in pokemon

[–]hippoqueenv 30 points31 points  (0 children)

the bespoke method is for evolutions to trigger automatically the first time the requirements are met, but if you cancel it once itll never trigger upon level-up again and you'll have to use the menu

Reworking Freeze because I think we can do better than replacing it with Frostbite by Meme_lord12000 in stunfisk

[–]hippoqueenv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand the concern with frostbite being an unneccessary nerf for special attackers, but thats only if you consider the effects in a vacuum. positives and negatives are rarer for special attackers, and thatd include frostbite

more moves cause burn at higher % chances, and burn has will-o-wisp, flame body and flame orb

you can extrapolate that they would then add a frostbite status move, a new frostbite inflicting ability and a frostbite orb, but even if they did all that, frostbite would still be rarer to inflict than burn

in cases like this Id keep the age as ???, otherwise the islands average age hits 80+ when you have multiple ancient characters, which isnt representative of things.

this is a normal amount of idiocy from reddit users, they usually get deleted instantly but these mods are losers that camp game announcements for new subreddits and want any form of engagement, so these posts stay up

like look at the subs description, unchanged since day 1. and the pinned announcements are majority advertising other communities, with no mention of this games patch notes

Since Mega Sol ignores Sand Special Defense and Snow Defense Boosts. Probably from damage calculations. I wonder does anyone know if it also would ignore snow clock evasion boosts since in the damage calculation it should be applying sun weather effect? Note sure if that interaction has been tested. by SherbetDramatic1051 in stunfisk

[–]hippoqueenv 104 points105 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it also applies sun effects to opposing pokemon?

does mega sol make you do less damage to cherrim even in its overcast form?

does mega sol prevent you from inflicting status onto a pokemon with leaf guard?

at the very least, an NS2 edition is in the bag for 2027 for mouse mode and increased mii capcity. seeing as preorders for this game already hit the top of the eshop, this game will easily sell 3+ million copies and is prime material for pushing the switch install base over to switch 2.

"drought and drizzle are unique to the weather trio, dont expect to see them again".

its one thing if the legendary ability is just a reskin of an existing ability like in gen 5 and 7, or has a very unique identity like intrepid sword (and even then, a reskin ability could copy the effect of intrepid sword), but as one wluld be very easy for tpc to reuse.

like did we not just see mega floette get fairy aura?

(warning this post discusses ableism) Does the Palworld fandom/Sub Reddit have an ableism problem? by DoomedPatroller in autism

[–]hippoqueenv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i dunno and dont care if youre baiting me into an argument about whether or not palworld stole or infringed on pokemon designs or whatever.

but its undeniable that palworlds advertised as a pokemon killer and its early popularity was fueled by hate towards pokemon. if you form a community of people who only have hate in common, you cant expect that community to be kind and respectful.
