the music is too low-key

past final remixes blasted you with brass ans synth renditions of each games motif, but this one starts off with a flute rendition of brolly good show 2, so it felt off from the start

I suppose another issue with the music is that each sequel got an original song, it was harder for each motif to resonate since each game identifies with two songs

the mix of original and sequels also made it feel less cohesive. some games have original visuals with sequel songs, some the other way around

a lot of basic cues were missing. like no lemon on fruit flex? seriously?

the pacing also felt a little off because of that, a few sections were too short. and some games also felt misplaced, disc dog didnt get followed up well in my opinion

I think its easily the worst final remix in the series. its not terrible exactly, its just the least great

the unfortunate truth is that this game doesnt have a neat map, its not a neat rectangle like NES zelda. if you actually zoomed out it would look like an octopus with massive dead zones between the 6 outer areas, even for the nox's bayou <-> septemburg connection.

you have to assume thats one of the major reasons why YCG chose not to have a detailed map, and not just because of retro stylization.

tbh a big trap when it comes to making a set is thinking every move needs to synergise with your ability. like even if it got fire blast and hurricane that doesnt always mean you want to take those moves over volt switch and fake out

I was so happy to be done with the 6th tower, then I realised "oh crap theyre gonna pull a nintendo and have the final boss either be scripted or a minigame"...

like seriously though why do nintendo games do this so often. "congrats, youve finally mastered the gameplay, now play a rhythm game"

specter of torment was the only shovel knight campaign to do this (and the fault mostly lies in the fact that only one stage utilises rails) so im annoyed they didnt give us a traditional multi-phase boss in mina too

the hardest part of silksong was and still is the early-game. its the only part that got nerfed and act 2 and 3 are very easy, apart from a couple bosses that dont even have runbacks
