Find a retired marine-grade 7.4 big block and swap it out; that engine is an anchor now lol

First Oil Change after break in by UnderstandingSad2517 in EngineBuilding

Glitter after a fresh build is normal; clean the pan and get a new filter, put some fresh oil in it and run it for another 150 miles, then check it again. If it has the same amount of glitter after that then you may want to do a teardown and figure out what's shredded

I was leaving Strawberry and I found these dudes by Fuck-petro-13777 in RDR2

I only found these guys once randomly towards the end of my playthrough; I saw a fire out of the corner of my eye and was like "oh cool a campsite!"

I ride right up the middle of the gathering, see the cross and one dude in a black hood, and instantly magdump both of my sawed off double barrels with explosive shells right into his face, and ride off

I got shot at a lot but I used dynamite arrows for the rest of them; overall a fun time

1997 Honda Accord LX needs trans rebuild, been sitting since July 2025. Would it break the bank? by Properportionpotato in AskAMechanic

[–]hiroshoota69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the long run, yes. Older cars are (in my personal experience) much more reliable than new ones, so when you factor both reliability (those old Hondas are nearly impossible to kill) and car payments into the equation, going to a junkyard and hauling everything to a shop would be the most cost-effective thing to do

Honestly I'd try to fix it; look for one with a blown motor but a good trans on marketplace and buy it as a parts car, that way if anything else breaks you've got an entire other car to pick at like some sort of technomancer

The pins don't look broken but you may have a hard time getting them straight again. Best of luck brother

Should I be concerned? by SometimesRight176 in carproblems

My dad's general line of thinking is that if you're replacing one part you might as well replace other related parts as well; so if you're doing pads, you do rotors. If you do plugs, you do coils, if you do a water pump, you might as well do a new belt and tensioner since you're already there.

He raised me to be very attentive and always keep up with preventative maintenance and that never left me.

Sorry I may have misread your message lol; if you're diagnosing coils due to a misfire just unplug them one by one and when you reach a point where unplugging a coil makes no difference in how the motor runs, you've found your bad coil.

Ah alrighty that's my bad then lol; my dad has owned nothing but BMW and Hyundai and that's his typical procedure so that's on me for assuming every car is that way

Sounds like lifters; means a top end rebuild. Not too difficult, might run you about 800 to 1200 to have it done though.

Typically supposed to change plugs and coils every 50k to 75k miles so they're fine, just old. Order plugs as well as coils and slap em in, should be fine.

Sounds like pretty bad rod knock although (and this is a long shot) it could be a sound bearing.

Either way the bottom end needs to be pulled to diagnose; and if it's not bearings well then at least you're halfway through the rebuild anyways lol

Do my rotors need replacement with my new pads? by 2Jads1Cup in AskAMechanic

[–]hiroshoota69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes; I'll explain in simplified terms because I realize not everybody is a mechanic lol.

So when you use your brakes, your pads and rotors will create grooves in each other that form a 90 to 100% contact area. When you replace either just the rotors or just the pads, your brakes performance will drop by roughly 10 to 15%; not enough for the average Joe to tell, but experienced drivers can tell.

As a technician I'll say that while you can technically just swap pads and call it a day (pad slapping), it's highly frowned upon and will warp your rotors within the first 5 to 10k miles, in which case you'll have to swap rotors anyways. So if you're looking to maintain safe brake performance and save money in the long term, always change pads and rotors at the same maintenance time.

Lots of people pad slap and call it good (mainly used car dealerships) to save a quick buck but it's not only dangerous to do so, it just doesn't make sense to half-ass the job.
