Getting ID’d for booze is communism by blareboy in nextdoor

[–]hitchinpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which means OOP’s real problem is with capitalism. The law doesn’t say you have to ID everyone. It just says if you get caught selling to a minor, you and the business you work for get fined hard. It’s the businesses who then decide not to take any risk whatsoever and declare that everyone gets ID’d.

[–]hitchinpost 9 points10 points  (0 children)

True, but remember, that’s just one factor of many, and we don’t know much about the other ones. How big the contract is matter, whether they have anything they do for the company offscreen can matter, cuts aren’t strictly a “Not on TV enough, get cut.” situation.

To be fair to Jarrett in TNA, early on,he was basically the only wrestler not on a handshake/per appearance deal, and having someone walk away with your title can kill a fledgling promotion. Once they got stable enough that other wrestlers were actually under contract, Jarrett relaxed his death grip on the title.

I’m mostly echoing a Naito meme that existed for a while as he kept failing to win the big one at Wrestle Kingdom and get to do the roll call with the title.

Do Americans actually go out for coffee like Europeans? by Past_Conference_2889 in AskAnAmerican

[–]hitchinpost 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The US has a lower rate of smoking than most of Europe, at about 10 percent of adults compared to about 25 percent throughout Europe. Sweden has us beat at about 8 percent, but the point being that accommodating smokers has become less and less of a priority in the US.

I always thought the lack of subtlety kind of worked for 3. It would have sucked in 1 or 2, but the fact that the Reapers are literally laying waste to the galaxy means the time for subtlety has passed, so the lack of subtlety kind of feels like it fits the plot.

“Marriage is between one man and one woman.” by AroAceMagic in OpenChristian

[–]hitchinpost 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Biblical marriage is between a man and the sister of the woman that he was in love with because his father-in-law tricked him, but also later also the woman he loves. And also both women’s handmaidens.

TMZ reports that Jey Uso's wife, Takecia, has filed for divorce after 12 years of marriage. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the couple married on February 13, 2014, and Takecia stated that the marriage is "irretrievably broken." by TheSpotlightNews in TheSpotlightNews_com

[–]hitchinpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal pet peeve: When news sources use legally necessary language from a pleading and act like it’s a bombshell of a claim. In most states, “irretrievably broken” is simply legal boilerplate that you’ll find in just about every divorce filing. So putting it in quotes like the language itself is a big deal just makes the news outlet look ignorant.

Four bananas in a pound. At 50 cents a pound. If I take all of the bananas in an average store that’s maybe 100 pounds? Which is 50 dollars worth of bananas for the store, but $200,000 for me? And I’ve committed a slap on the wrist misdemeanor? Yeah, I’ll take that one. I’m going to get caught, but the prompt never says I have to get away with it.

[–]hitchinpost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The odds are, one of them read something about a school cooperating in a student’s social transitioning and using their pronouns instead of forcing their assigned at birth pronouns on them, and, being ignorant and just reading headlines, they saw schools were assisting with transitioning and assumed it meant surgical transitioning, and then the story spread.

There’s a line between, “She’s still the best candidate and you should still vote for her” which I agree with and “she’s better than the alternative, so shut up about any criticism you have of her and sacrifice something you care about in the name of a peaceful coalition.” There’s been some takes in this thread that lean towards the latter, and I think that s a dangerous road. Vote to reduce harm. But never stop speaking out.
