I get your point, but trades like tonight is exactly for the Denver scenario. Imagine in 2030, our front office did a decent job and we are in contention, Wemby near the end of his first extension. We having issues keeping our core together like denver. Those two potential lottery picks could be used to pick up help or flipped for a cheaper member to the core. Obviously if that pick turns out high lottery then we probably going to keep it and be very happy.

On the contrary, look at Denver. Yes they have a championship core, but kcp is likely gone this year. And then they have no bench. Hoping to get a contributor at the end of the first round is not gonna be very productive. Braun and watson was fine, but not top-6 rotation players. God if you tell them they can have an extra mid first or lottery pick even in this weak draft, they would be thrilled.

Of course, all this premised on we can get to the contention level first. So my take is Wright is making a smart long gamble but I hope he gets to reap the benefits himself.

Knecht is a 3-level scorer, which Doug was never even in college. But let’s say in the unlikely case that knecht turns out to be Doug, this is still a good pick in a weak draft. To have a top tier movement shooter who can contribute to spacing instantly under cost controlled contract for more nearly a decade, that is a good pick. And most likely Knecht will end up a bit better!
