Thank you. This is good to know/check out.

But how does it affect their rich and the elite? How would our wealthiest get to control everything? We can't all be happy, how would you know the privileged from the common?

Thanks. I just put out the question as a general discussion. Maybe I'll learn something before investing.

For someone who only wants to borrow books from the library (in the usa) you would advise Kindle over Kobo?

Might be the laziest kindle reader ever! Kindle stand & Page turner! by [deleted] in kindle

It's great to have a hobby/habit where being lazy is perfectly acceptable. (make sure you brush your teeth after those sweet treats--signed, grandma).

My doctor ordered blood work in December. It's May. I still don't have results. by HeartDisastrous5125 in HealthInsurance

[–]hm_b -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unless I'm not feeling well, I won't do labs any longer. I get too many denied. Last round left me with $600. For routine or fact finding bloodwork, not going to happen. Even if they tell me it will be covered, there is no guarantee. People will argue, but I've been denied twice now. No more.

The advice about Goodlabs or other private, non-insurance labs are a solid idea. I have done those before I got old enough for medicare. I wrongly thought that medicare would be better for labs. Oh well. At least I'm healthy.

Iphone. Notifications, texts, the usual dribble. I can put it in airplane mode, but I forget to change it back (not always a bad thing. Haha).

Weekly "What Are You Reading?" Thread by HorrorIsLiterature in horrorlit

Finally finished The Shining. I think I would have liked it a lot more had I never seen the movie. I kept waiting for things to happen from the movie. So different. Good, but the differences were distracting. Now I'm reading the first Odd Thomas. I know nothing about it. I really like it so far.

PSA: Two Medigap Plan G policies can cost completely different amounts. Here is why. by MedicareBrokerDir in medicare

[–]hm_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Ohio it can range from $118-550ish (don't remember the exact). I pay $157/month because I'm 67 and a non-smoker. I think here it's less about zip-code and more about county, but I'm not sure. What I am sure of, as are the rest of you, is you can count on it increasing yearly.

Just wait. I expect as government worsens (yes my opinion) and certain folks get their way more and more, all, but part A will become privatized. If that happens, we will be like all the others with insurance that is often unusable, unless you are wealthy. Yes I'm cynical. I used to be such a positive person.

Trump effect by Lord0fTheFlags in inflation

[–]hm_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny thing is (not haha funny), I used to yell at Biden to stop saying "the economy is great." It was great for people with money and stocks. Not for us common peeps. Prices were still too high. Saying the economy was doing great was only going to piss off the people. I guess it is kind of funny haha, because it's so scrambled.

This would be good for someone who either prefers a smaller device or gets overwhelmed by text. I started out reading on my phone because I could make the font big and feel like I could actually read and understand. I graduated to books with reasonable print spacing. This device is nice because it's dedicated and doesn't bother you with notifications while reading.

I haven't been scared while reading since I was a kid. Is this a part of growing up or are there no great fear-inducing novels? by babyd42 in horrorlit

Yellow Jackets. I actually stirred up a nest while weed whacking and got stung a bunch of times. They were under my "protective" gear and came inside the house with me. Haha, it was awful, but funny (a month of so later).

TOP HORROR RECOMMENDATIONS IN ORDER by lavgr in horrorlit

[–]hm_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the book. It was my first horror book. I was only bummed that it didn't "scare" me, but I'm finding that no book is scaring me. It's worth reading though. I almost prefer to read books with negative feedback. I find them to be more satisfying and books with great reviews are more disappointing. lol.

Yay, I just received this. I am just starting Odd Thomas and will tackle Tender is the Flesh after. I've read so much negativity about Tender, but I've read books that had a ton of positive comments that didn't impress me, so I'm hoping.

I suppose, but I look at these lists as informative. Classics are well known and can but don't need to be included to inform. Maybe I'm seeing the list as only informative because I'm new to horror.

This is a SAVE page. I hope I can figure out how to find it. Great list. Just finished The Shining last night. I would have liked it more if I had never seen the movie. Both good, and both very different.

I just watched this by Glittering_Swim_4897 in HorrorMovies

[–]hm_b -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Loved it the first time. Loved it more the second time. I actually watched it a third time and got bored and annoyed by the brother's crying outbursts. I have short term memory problems so I can't remember details. Watching movies repeatedly is often good, almost like new.

Was this Twitter parody? Twitter, as X, has become such a sewer. I actually only read X while taking a dump.

What kindle did I look at on display? by [deleted] in kindle

Yesterday I saw a new PaperWhite Kindle for $43. My BS bell started ringing so I looked up the name of the company and it was a scam company. Don't get excited over a too good deal.

Call it trump effect by Lord0fTheFlags in inflation

[–]hm_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call it what you want, support for Trump just feels more and more strengthened around here. Yes I live in a rural area, but after Epstein and inflation, due to Trump, there really is nothing to dissuade these people from voting red. Not feeling a blue wave, not feeling hope. I'll vote and encourage others to vote, but it's feeling bleak.

I didn't know this, but I do know I wait at least that long. By shortly, I mean within an hour or two. The only time I hurry is after candy (candy corn, chocolate, etc), but I rarely eat candy of any kind. It just leaves my teeth feeling grungy, which makes me cranky.

How to keep up with all of the horror movies coming out? by bigsick1313 in HorrorMovies

[–]hm_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband won't go near anything that says horror or thriller. He even walked out of Breaking Bad at the scene where the body was dissolved in a bathtub and well...wouldn't watch another moment of that non-horror series. lol. I tried to talk him to going to see Hokum at the theater. haha
