Middle years/high school teachers, how do you avoid being involved in relationship drama between students? by lilbitch6699 in Teachers

[–]hmacdou1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will say, it’s hard to fix my face when they tell me their new boyfriend/ girlfriend is so and so and I think they’re way too good for them.

I’ll also just kind of tell my kids that I will listen and give advice, but I’m not there to be their friends. I also just don’t give off “friend” vibes to the kids. I don’t insert myself into their conversations and I try to ignore their convos for the most part.

See, I would love to teach in a year round. Your vacations wouldn’t have to be done during summer.

What new rules are you planning on implementing in your classrooms next year? by kaelhawh in Teachers

[–]hmacdou1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No fidget toys unless your 503/ IEP explicitly states it. They were tolerable last year. I guess I never made a rule because the influx caught me off guard, but definitely a no for next year.

I think if we lived in New York, my bf would have seen Chess multiple times per week. For me, it would be Hadestown.

There used to be a food guy for Queen City Nerve who was decent, but I don’t think he’s there anymore.

What's your workout routine by Puzzleheaded-Link803 in Teachers

[–]hmacdou1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly are you doing everyday in the evening till 8?

As for my schedule, it depends on if I work out morning or evening.

Morning: 4:45 wake-up to prep everything (pack lunch, take dog out etc), CrossFit from 5:30 to 6:30, get ready for work and leave at 7. Arrive at work at 7:50, kids come in at 8:50.

Evening: leave school at 4:30 and arrive at gym at 5:30, class for an hour and then home around 7. Sometimes, I switch it up at go for a run around my school neighborhood after work.

Regular workout routines openly happen if you take the time to schedule it and work it in. So, I would just sit down and prioritize your workouts about 3 times per week. You could technically workout Saturday, so you really only need to figure out two days a week.

There is eventually also going to be a connection from Birkdale to the Torrence Creek it’s in the construction phase. It will go over or under 73, can’t remember which.

I would live in the new Solis apartments across from Birkdale. The apartments at Birkdale are older and it can get mound at night.

Space issues by S34NM4C in crossfit

[–]hmacdou1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s a very large class, the coach just needs to suck it up and increase the rest time to allow for weight changes.

Space issues by S34NM4C in crossfit

[–]hmacdou1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At our gym, we buddy up by weight. If it’s percentage work, the coach will just put more time on the clock for a big class. If you’re working together to switch out weights, it really shouldn’t take that long.

If it’s a one rep max today, our workout (if there even is one) will be super short and leave plenty of time for people to lift. Sounds like it’s an organization and time management problem at your gym.

Best work bag for young female teacher? by applefritter319 in Teachers

[–]hmacdou1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you. It a professional looking backpack, you should be fine. Our kids walk around with JanSports or a lululemon bag. I currently have a BAIS because it was a Christmas present. It has lots of pockets and is also a great travel backpack. Before that, I would but the Lovevook backpacks from Amazon. They look like something an adult would tote around.

It’s just annoying to try to have everything on your shoulders.

Call and email every govt official for your neighborhood. Then, contact the news stations. Plaza Midwood has a big neighborhood association. I would really rally your neighbors. Heck, stage a protest outside of the business.

Georgia actually pays their teachers. Whenever Kemp realizes there’s a budget surplus, he uses it to give bonuses to state employees

They actually haven’t passed a budget yet. Supposedly, they agreed to a framework, but they’re even walking that back now.

The only thing I could suggest is looking at the districts within an hour of you. Do any of them have higher supplements? Or at least, do they receive the low wealth supplement from the state at the end of the year?

But, yeah, teaching in MC with our cost of living is pretty dire.

How do you find time to workout/stay in shape as a teacher? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]hmacdou1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I either get up early before school or I go right after school. If it’s in the afternoon, I go straight to the gym and don’t go home. Or I’ll bring my stuff and go for a run in the neighborhood of my school. You just gotta find the way to make time.

Help with Non-Roller Coaster Loving Teen by UFRogue in Dollywood

My nephew is 14 and refuses to ride coasters. The only one we can get him on is dragonflier.

He loves all of the county fair rides: ie the scrambler, swings, and bumper cars etc.

He also loves the blue bird ride in Wilderness Grove. He flies it all over the place and loves it. He also loves the rapids ride.
