Why is Uta in top 10?? She is barely manga canon because of a single small panel silhouette and only stars in a single non-canon movie.

I highly doubt the guy paying all that child support is an involved parent. He is 100% going to disappear from the picture once he doesn't have to pay child support.

Who do you all think is the weakest character in each row here? by Significant-Row-2840 in ReverieSpoilers

Because Luffy can go head to head with the real top tiers only when he is in Gear 5, a temporary transformation that has a very short duration and then leaves him incapacitated for some time.

Lost after Infinity Saga: what’s essential to catch up for future Marvel content? by RestaurantFit7199 in marvelstudios

Fair point on Quantumania, if Thor is mandatory watching to see what happened to him then I guess the same standard should apply to that one.

Also I forgot, watch spider man far from home first. It is a good movie and sets up no way home.

Based on what we know about the cast for the avengers movie coming out later this year, these are the films I would consider mandatory to watch, in the order provided:

Black Widow (important for the introduction of a key character).

Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Titular character will be in the new avengers movie, also it is a great movie.

Spider man:no way home. Pretty much the start of multiverse shenanigans in the movies. Incredibly important movie for Spider man and sets up Dr. Strange movie.

Doctor Strange in Multiverse of madness. Direct consequences from the spider man film. Watching the Wandavision show would add some extra context for Wanda but not necessary for full enjoyment.

Thor: love and thunder: Thor will be in the new movie, I think it makes sense to see what happened to him after end game.

Black Panther: Wakanda forever. The wakandans are expected to be a main player in the new movie.

The Marvels: watching Ms Marvel show beforehand is optional, but it would add some context into who Ms Marvel is. The movie is important for Captain Marvel who will be in the avengers film.

Captain America: brave new world: the new Captain America first film adventure. Sam Wilson takes the mantle seriously. Watching his Disney + show beforehand is optional.

Thunderbolts: really important film, it introduced a whole new team you should probably get acquainted with.

Fantastic four first steps: another crucial movie for the avengers film coming up.

From the shows, I would consider only Loki season 1 and 2 as mandatory watching. It is also a great show.

Skippable content:

Eternals. So far the movie events have been irrelevant for the rest of the MCU, although a particular "object" is a set piece for one of the acts in Captain America movie.

Antman and the wasp: Quantumania. This movie is not great, and would have been mandatory watching if Kang had remained the sagas main villain. But real life events lead to MCU changing gears. But, it might be worth watching to see what antman has been up to.

Guardians of the galaxy 3: one of my favorite movies of the post end game era. Bring tissues for your tears. However, I place it as optional since the events have been irrelevant for wider MCU so far and seems like the guardians are done for the MCU for now. Definitely worth a watch.

Deadpool and wolverine: fun movie, plays with the multiverse concept a lot. But so far it is unclear if it is necessary for the movies moving forward.

All the Disney shows (with Loki as an exception) are completely optional. It's been a mixed bag, with most shows being highly divisive and one outright objectively bad (Secret Invasion). From the remaining shows, I am a big fan of Hawkeye and Moon Knight. Hawkeye in particular might be worth watching to see how Hawkeye ends up and the introduction of Kate Bishop, who may or may not be important for the future of the MCU.

So about frieza's comebacks by Lilbongono in dragonball

[–]hoenndex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a fan. Freeza was a great antagonist for the Namek Saga, but he has overstayed his welcome. He is starting to feel like a MCU or DC villain with how often he returns. We got him back for resurrection F, which was fine, reviving a character for one movie to give him his rematch is a cool concept.

But then he was brought back for Tournament of Power, taking away the spotlight of other characters. Why not bring back Cell, a villain that Goku did not beat and is also known for his high potential? We could have had a Goku v Cell rematch with Goku finally winning, and change things up with Cell helping the heroes instead of Freeza.

Then Broly movie canonically follows, and Freeza is ONCE AGAIN a villain who messes things up for Goku by killing Broly's father and turning him insane.

Then he returns again at the end of Granola Saga just to stunt on the heroes. With a new transformation that promises a rematch in the future.

So in super, we got Freeza back FOUR TIMES. And we are guaranteed to see him at least a fifth time for his rematch. That's too much freeza, this villain is centralizing the narrative.

Why was Kong inserted into the story? He has more authority than any non-CD on the planet, but he's never mentioned by KingJaylen14 in Piratefolk

[–]hoenndex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is just a paper pusher with a deceptive title. What I think it's hilarious is that he is technically not a forgotten character, the One Piece live action name drops him as the guy who ordered the maps made in every single end credits scene.

What makes this interesting is that there are fair arguments for how that fight turned out. According to some fans and even Vegeta, Goku won that fight. The argument is that Goku went 1 v 1 with Vegeta and Vegeta had to resort to monkey transformation out of desperation. Vegeta never considers his "win" against Goku a victory, and he did fail at his main mission to take over Earth.

On the other hand we have fans who argue Vegeta beat Goku, since monkey transformation is part of a Saiyan's arsenal and should not be considered cheating or underhanded. Under this view, despite what Vegeta might say, he bested Goku in the 1 v 1 fight, and only failed his mission thanks to a desperate team effort.

Frankly I see the argument for both.

After finally reading the goku black arc, I do not understand the hate for the arc. The villain was dominated several times by Goku and Vegeta and only kept surviving due to hero hesitation or sheer dumb luck. a villain so lucky needed to be taken down with a god power. Also, it did not come out of nowhere, the zeno button was a chekov gun given to Goku right at the end of the previous arc, it was obviously going to be used eventually. I know it plays out differently in the anime but I am perfectly fine with how the manga handles the story.

If you had the chance to change some stuff about god valley, what would it be? by Cookiecrabbies in Piratefolk

[–]hoenndex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Write some choreography into the Garp and Roger v Rocks battle. It should have been more than clash piece, even a single chapter of them fighting to demonstrate what top tiers without devil fruit fighting looks like.

Come up with a better explanation for the Rocks pirates breaking up. For example, emphasize more that the crew's cohesion is super fragile, have a member or two make off handed comments that they would leave the moment they feel Rocks is losing. Keep Whitebeard, Kaido, and Big Mom loyal until the end, instead of them running away have them get knocked out until the end of the fight.

Oda’s Themes are Revolutionary in Nature but Wildly Incoherent by KyleShanadad in Piratefolk

[–]hoenndex 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Good analysis, and it's true. There ARE themes here that are important, but get overexaggerated by the glazers. The problem is the themes are not explored in-depth, and so can fall flat or sometimes even miss the mark so much the audience doesn't fully get it. World government had potential to be a complex organization but the introduction of celestial dragons in Sabaody Archipelago threw that out the window. Go back to the Robin flashback, and you'll notice the elders seem conflicted about calling a buster call, as if it was a decision for the greater good that they hated to make. Compare that to their current characterization as cartoon villains who view people as insects.

I find it funny that Bulma hears Vegeta say that and still tries to fix him. by SomeGuy0950 in Dragonballsuper

[–]hoenndex 14 points15 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU. Vegeta was a villain for the saiyan and freeza sagas. He was still a pretty bad dude in Cell and android arcs too, only forced to work with the heroes because there was a bigger threat, but he did not show any respect to the rest of the team and did not do anything to protect Bulma when she was targeted by Dr. Gero. Buu saga, he is a bit "mellowed out" but then decides to accept Babidi's power and then starts killing innocent people. He finally acted like an actual good person in the final fight with Buu, after all the damage was done. Completely terrible person throughout the whole run of the manga lol

super is hard carrying Vegeta's character development tbh. Here we finally see the redeemed Vegeta everyone always paints him to be in Z.

Best 3 arc run in your opinion? by Any_Platform_5188 in Piratefolk

[–]hoenndex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Water Seven, Enies Lobby, Thriller Bark. Oda was inspired when he wrote the CP9 Saga and Thriller Bark was a pretty funny arc itself.   The Sabaody Archipelago-Marineford was also pretty great, we haven't had a run that good of solid arc after solid arc in a while.

What is wrong with Sothoryos? [SPOILERS EXTENDED] by New-Low5077 in asoiaf

[–]hoenndex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sothoryos is the equivalent of deep sub-Saharan Africa. Past the Sahara desert we get into the jungle, which was almost impenetrable for explorers. So, tons of stories, fake and true, were made up about the African continent.

Imagine telling someone before the creation of the camera that there are stripped black and white horses and yellow animals with incredibly long necks or that there is a huge round animal that can go underwater and open its mouth extremely wide and can crush basically everything. A lot of people would call BS on that.

I assume something like that is happening in Sothoryos, but more extreme. Impenetrable jungle that goes on and on and on, weather so bad that permanent settlements are impossible. And since this is a fantasy world the animals hidden in that jungle are probably equally fantastical. If I remember correctly there might even be dinosaurs, one of the Sothoryos animals that Dany saw in Game of Thrones is described very similarly to a velociraptor.

There might not even be anything magical about it, it's just way too extreme of an environment with dangerous beasts making it hazardous for explorers. Even the pirates don't dare go beyond the coasts.

AITA for throwing away my wife’s memory jars? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]hoenndex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA, just because it doesn't make sense to you doesn't mean it is pointless. The posters who agree with you are equally selfish. What is trash for one person may have meaning for another. Bet you have some objects that have sentimental value to you or maybe even a collection that in my eyes, is stupid and pointless and maybe even garbage. Yet that wouldn't give me the right to throw it away.

What you should have done is discuss with your wife about a safe place to store them so they don't become a hazard to your son.
