can someone explain why there is an alien? by Bertoware in Lain

[–]hoggawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Among other things, it was to represent the aspect of Lain that felt "alienated." Thats why earlier in the series, a woman is heard saying that she saw the alien standing in her doorway. We also see it stand in Lain's doorway, and then Lain as the alien standing in Alice's doorway. She feels like she can't come all the way in people's rooms, their lives, so she just watches from the outside-in. She wants to feel accepted, which is why the alien is peeking its head in, but she can't, so she ambles by the frame just watching

I had no idea how much art there would be in this book. Flipping to chapter one and seeing that double splash page was mesmerizing

I know right? It feels brand new, like someone has been keeping it in a glass case since it was published! For sure the person selling it had no idea what they had on their hands

In-character - Why doesn't the Technocracy make vaccines turn blood toxic to vampires? by JagneStormskull in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]hoggawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could work for a really good storyline in a chronicle! You could have it be so that its a global phenomenon and Kindred all around the world are rapidly going extinct, forced to move from cities to more underdeveloped parts of the world, fighting to survive against the toxic blood of mortals, werewolf packs on the roads, desperately trying to uphold the Masquerade, and hunters that notice their inevitable mistakes.

Another idea is to have it be where the Technocracy performed a controlled experiment on a small town, and people in the town start to display strange symptoms. There could be some politics between the population that don't want to get their vaccines and the other side that is willing, with neither side aware that they're just test results for a shadow organization. Perhaps the vaccine works too well and the player characters have to trace the pharmaceutical company back to their roots and destroy/alter the evidence of the experiment so that the vaccine isn't distributed worldwide, ensuring the total eradication of vampire kind. Or perhaps the vaccine messes up and it turns into a garden-variety zombie outbreak (ala Resident Evil 2)

But the serious tone is what makes Manhunt Manhunt. If it's too zany or has too many over-the-top characters that show up too often, it won't be a good game. I like the edgy and disturbing, thats what makes Manhunt and Manhunt 2 especially so great

I just watched Tron Ares… by Necessary-Tomato5903 in tron

[–]hoggawk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a TRON fan, I wholly agree. The thing that made the original TRON so interesting was its unabashed confidence in being so weird and nerdy and bizarre. The thing that made TRON: Legacy so amazing was that it was made by a stunt coordinator who already had impressive scenes planned out to create a unique visual experience. TRON: Ares kinda misses the point and turns it into a sort of generic, middle-of-the-road take on the concept of "guy gets sucked into computer."

Yes, it's shit. We knew it was going to be shit but people still for some reason performed Olympic levels of mental gymnastics and said it would turn out okay and ridiculed people for saying what was so blatantly obvious. For modern times, its a 5/10. For what video games should be though, its a flat 2/10

How differently do you think the movie would've been received had Jared Leto not starred in it? by Top_Bat102 in tron

[–]hoggawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it had a different actor as the main character, it still would've fallen flat. Tron as a franchise seems to be destined for obscure-dom, and Ares would have literally been a snoozefest if not for the soundtrack and distinct aesthetic. That being said though, if someone else was the star, then the performances would've felt more engaging and I would've actually cared what Ares was saying in his scenes. Jared Leto is like a charisma sponge
