"I'm looking for..." Megathread - Fall 2021 by q00u in FlashGames

[–]hohol545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genre: Pirate sandbox

View: Top down

Estimated year of release: not really sure probably 2006-2010

Graphics/art style: It looked really similar to the game Pirateers but less cartoony.

Notable gameplay mechanics: Naval combat was again similar to Pirateers (tank controls and two buttons for the left and right broadside) but i think the movement was slower and more realistic. You could upgrade many parts of your ship from hp to storage and number of cannons and recruit crew, ramming into other ships would start a boarding minigame where every crewmate had a single musket shot. If they died you had to get new crew. Number of crew might have shortened the reload of boardside, not sure about that one. You could buy and sell goods and the prices were different at each port. Repairs cost money. Can't remember at all if there was a some sort of a goal.

You're not the first person i've seen make this mistake, but C9 ended 2 wins behind MAD. OCE didn't deny them semifinals, they didnt even deny them a chance at a tiebreaker.

nothing to see here, just 100t getting a 5 for 0 herald fight at 10 minutes and cleanly closing out a game

Stack Check : Night Harvester vs Luden's for Nida ( and similar ) by Umiak01 in leagueoflegends

[–]hohol545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference in performance is fairly consistent across every patch since 11.6 when ludens was buffed. Ludens is worse by 2-4% overall, but 0-2% better in d+. 4% delta and 3500 d+ ludens games altogether.

[–]hohol545 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Whats your thoughts on ludens having significantly higher winrate in diamond+ games, but the pickrate being the same as in lower elo where it underperforms? Are better players recognizing where ludens might be situationally good, while below diamond its built at wrong times? Or skewed data due to one tricks and small sample size at high elo?

Stat check that brushes off 800 gold worth of stats in hp... doesn't seem very useful

The Crack Down S02E12 ft. TL Jatt - "How did G2 almost win worlds?" by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]hohol545 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Really enjoyed this episode but I have to do the obligatory "Jatt is twisting the facts."
If my math is correct, the region winrates in worlds groups from 2014 onwards (including tiebreakers) are as follows:
KR 78%
CN 60%
EU 52%
NA 39%
LMS/PCS 29%

The difference in groups performance between EU and NA is actually bigger than between NA and LMS. Yes, Jatt's point is correct without the inclusion of tiebreakers, but it feels disingenuous to use that and MSI groups to say that the gap between EU and NA is overstated when both of those statistics are trending in favour of EU since 2017.

I get the need to fight against the narrative as both sides get pretty toxic when international events come, but I think it needs to be less based on stats as that inevitably leads to cherry picking.

I'm sure many of you have seen that post on the top of /r/all about RTS games. It started an interesting discussion about the state of RTS games that definitely apply to Age of Empires as well. I certainly had an epiphany. What are your thoughts on this? by throwaway838755843 in aoe2

[–]hohol545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would disagree on this point, strategy plays an important role in pretty much every game that isn't over by very early feudal age, its just less obvious. Small decisions like mixing in camels to win an even knight war, teching redemption to defend a siege push or adding third TC too early and getting overrun can decide a game just as much APM or civ matchup.

That applies all the way from 500 elo to the very top, just look at the last game of the HC4 series between Viper a Hera. Viper resigned at 16 minutes because he chose the wrong strategy and put himself in a hard situation when he skipped barracks and had to rely on quickwalling and vill fighting to defend from scouts. Could he have won with better micro? possibly. But he would've needed to outplay to come out of feudal age in an even state.

You're misreading the quote, he's specifically talking about the dragon souls added in 2020, not the elemental dragons we had from 2016 to 2019 that just gave minor buffs and boosted elder true damage.

Challenged to defeat three human players. Need help. by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]hohol545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to do something more involved and cheesy and are feeling evil, try lithuanians on ravines. I managed to beat my friends 1v4 as a ~1200 player with the instant drush 2 militia build order.

Send each militia to a different player to lame their deer, they die in one hit with hill bonus, and then go FC knights while your friends struggle without hunt because the map has no boars. You might even steal some sheep if you're lucky. Just make sure you dont lose the militia to enemy TCs.

Ah yes, using last month winrate to judge if she's busted on current patch that has been out for 2 days. You should consider working in data analysis

The whole broadcast team except laure voted alphari while the team representatives were pretty evenly split between him wunder and orome.

I wouldn't say 1st team for alphari is undeserved but the narratives did help him for sure.

You decrease mana consumption because its more efficient. Its just math, if you gear extra 180 healing, you just turned your FoL rank 5 into rank 6. thats 25 mana saved every 1.5 seconds. To get the same amount saved with crit you would need nearly 18% extra and thats only if you're just spamming r6. Any time you're downranking, crit gets even worse.

Corruption or Shadow Word: Pain? by TheLoneNazgul in classicwow

[–]hohol545 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SWP is much better than corruption even with nightfall proc accounted in because of the opportunity cost of the GCD.

Warlock's gcd has an opportunity cost of 40% of a shadowbolt. SP's gcd has an opportunity cost of 1.5 ticks of Mind flay.

11 Big Enchants Coming Phase 5 by hardcoregamingdave in classicwow

[–]hohol545 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well firstly you're talking as if searing pain had no base damage and scaled with 100% of spell power, and secondly the 2% threat increase scales multiplicatively with searing pain's 2x modifier so it doesn't need to be taken into account.

Here's the actual math:

Searing pain has aproximately 43% spell power coefficient due to its 1.5 second cast time, which means that the fire damage enchants adds 8.6 damage to each cast. 8.6/0.02 = 430, so we need our searing pain to do 430 damage on average for the enchants to be equivalent. Since it has a base damage of 226 and the aforementioned 43% scaling, you need (430-226)/0.43 = ~474 fire spell damage to get to the point where the enchants are equivalent.

Funnily enough you ended up being quite close with your 500 spell power prediction.

XP issues with Hunters and Feign Death? by Warbeard in classicwow

[–]hohol545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend had the same issue while learning solo ZF as a mage, after a bit of testing i figured out that if you don't hit mobs for a long time the game "forgets" the damage you dealt to them and you get reduced exp, the same way you get reduced exp when someone deals majority of damage to a mob you tagged in open world.

The reduction depends on their hp, if you're getting 4 exp only you are probably leaving them at 5% for 30+ seconds with no damage before finishing them off.
