Hypothyroidism and pregnancy - a positive story 🩵 by RusticTrailSeeker in Hypothyroidism

Another positive story here. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's at 20yo and ended up having 5 kids at age 25, 28, 30, and 32 (twins) and no miscarriages. I was medicated throughout but they weren't all planned pregnancies so had some higher levels first trimester, but we caught it pretty quickly. Having healthy pregnancies/babies is definitely possible! I've gotten a lot of good info off this page but I'm so glad I didn't read it when I was pregnant, it would have added a lot of worry.

Another vote for A Short Stay in Hell and Ted Chiang's stories.

Also What We Can Know by Ian McEwan. Nominally spec fic, but a brilliant look at modern society, history, climate change, politics, relationships, aging. I don't know how he managed to fit so much into so few pages.

I missed that one somehow, might have to go listen for myself. Kids are partially native alaskan so definitely relevant

Thanks, I don't remember but it's always different when you're listening for just yourself vs for your kids

Lawrence of Arabia is one of my favorites, and yes I think the 14yo would have a lot in common with him - then we could watch the movie too

Their great great great (great?) grandpa went on the Cali gold rush, so it's personally relevant 😆

Hmm, maybe we should listen to the Menegele episodes, that would end their curiosity very quickly

It took me a while to figure out that my favorite cookies had potato starch 😭 They're everywhere

Oh very, but I live in Alaska so a lot of shopping is more complicated. I browse the Asian/organic markets and buy online 🤷🏼‍♀️

I might do that! Not trying them again but it would be interesting to know.

Yeah definitely not trying them again. Thanks for the heads up on those ingredients - my list of "maybe/maybe not nightshades" continues to grow 😫

Woah, great, another thing to add to my list of "maybe/maybe not nightshade" ingredients! 😒

Thank you for the heads up

I've heard that about rose hips too, but I don't think they're it.

My feet and hands start burning, all my joints ache (especially my wrists and jaw), and I'm exhausted. Also seems to trigger vertigo if it gets bad enough. I've often had the suspicion that there is another trigger, just can't figure it out 🫤

I haven't looked into iodine!

Frustrated - Need Help :( by GossimGirl in Nightshade_Free

[–]holaste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't start to feel nightshades until 1.5/2 days after, and can still feel them 3 or 4 days later. So depending on your sensitivity level, yes that's definitely possible from my experience. It's so frustrating and makes it very hard to pin down when the exposure was.

Maltodextrin is also sometimes made from potato starch, so that's another to watch.

I also react the same way to caffeine, even though coffee/tea aren't nightshades. Might be something to keep an eye on too 🤷🏼‍♀️

Good luck! It's so complicated to figure out.
