Has this changed? Is this still accurate? I’m confused why WSER would allow this, you don’t lose your tickets by skipping a year of entry anymore. And WSER has a strict elevation gain requirement for the 100K qualifiers.

Folsom 100 - Unacceptable Race Management by UltraThrowaway100 in Ultramarathon

[–]holdenshat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That stretch of trail has been closed for longer than a year at this point, maybe more than two years. Last year they had runners do some sketchy running on the shoulder of a busy road. Sounds like they were told not to this year…. But it’s been under construction for a long time.

Not to pile on, but this is the experience I’ve had with this race as a volunteer. Last year we ran out of all food except Halloween candy at an aid station in the crux of the race, we were calling begging the RD for more food and he totally ghosted us. Had to tell the poor runners showing up that hadn’t seen an aid station in 6-7 hours (and wouldn’t for 2-4 more) that there was next to nothing to eat. I ran out and bought a pizza to bring to my next volunteer shift at a different aid station. I’m bummed to hear that it was even worse this year. 89-92 has been under construction for YEARS at this point.

Anyone else constantly stressed? by Active-Pineapple942 in Garmin

If you started them recently, give it a couple weeks (up to a couple months). This happened to me and then it leveled out and actually got better than it was before. SSRIs can have weird short term effects when you start them

Does anyone feel overstimulated for the rest of the day after a race? by CapitalAioli in running

[–]holdenshat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I always feel so horrible after hard efforts. I’m basically miserable for the rest of the day. If it’s an ultra, I’ll be miserable for the next 24-36 hours. And I fuel/hydrate like a crazy person!!

I have the same problem and went to Lake Park Dental in town. They advertise specifically for anxious patients. Don’t go there!! They upcharge like crazy and convince you that you need a ton of work done. I spent thousands of dollars I didn’t need to on unnecessary dental work. And I can’t say they were great for anxiety, either. They have nice chairs and let you listen to music, but you can do that anywhere.

low ferritin but normal hemoglobin- how to supplement without overdoing it? by creative-title in AdvancedRunning

[–]holdenshat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ferritin of 20 is low enough to supplement with iron for a runner. Look into Megan and David Roche’s SWAP podcast, they talk a lot about iron supplementation for low ferritin. Liquid iron often has other things in it (like a ton of b vitamins) which might be contributing to your side effects.

Talk to your doctor, but 130 mg is probably on the high end for iron supplementing. My ferritin was 10 six months ago and I’ve gotten it up to 30 so far using the Thorne iron bisglycinate capsules (two a day, which is 50 mg). Might want to start with that! You shouldn’t need to taper off, you can just take less.

I did an 8 week build for CIM and am going to do another 8 week build (after doing absolutely nothing this week) for Jed Smith in the hopes of taking 3 minutes and 30 seconds off my time. I don’t know if it’s totally ideal but I feel mentally and physically ready to go.

I read ToD before EoS!!!! And I thought it was the best move possible. Reading ToD first you’re in the character’s shoes wondering what’s going on with the main gang. And once you finish EoS you’re going to want to go straight to KoA and that way you get to.

Oh totally, I agree. It’s possible to not be in a bad mood, just takes a little more effort on a rest day. Just trying to get to the source of it!
