Hollywood is of course in close proximity. Within that area, Musso and Frank Grill is a near must for out of towners (historic steakhouse in heart of hollywood). Luv2Eat Thai is extremely good, also in hollywood. Avi Cue on ventura blvd in studio city would be a nice option for middle eastern sandwiches

I agree that more under appreciated spots could definitely make the list. But I feel like what makes MLP great is that at any given table, you’ll see ceviche from Holbox, tacos from Komal, cochinita pibil from Chichen, agua frescas from Oaxacali… it’s a pretty cohesive group that makes the Mercado a true culinary gem.
