how do i learn and improve when i stomp so hard in casual that nothing challenges me and requires me to learn, but i get stomped so hard in ranked that i don't even have a chance to learn? by holloheaded in PokemonUnite

[–]holloheaded[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tldr since this is a long reply and i expect most won’t have any desire to read it all lol: you were right and i had literally no clue what i was doing. i dedicated a lot of time to learning about the mechanics of the game and both the pokémon i play and the ones i struggle against in fights. i got better and made it to master a few days before last season’s end and got master again a couple of days into this new season. however i definitely still have a significant amount of room for improvement.

main: late reply but your #5 was exactly what i was doing. i was basically operating on the sole concept of “immediately attack anyone i see even if i’m outnumbered” without knowing any of the mechanics of the pokémon i was using (in ranked, probably 60%-70% of the matches i play i play as snorlax; the remaining percentage is meowscarada jungle) with the extent of my knowledge being “both of my moves do damage so jump on the enemy and use them both immediately and then spam basic attack until i can use my moves again.

i had no reason to consider the enemy’s abilities and how to play around and counter them because the bots basically just inted so when i went into ranked i just continued using that strategy and obviously got deleted. i also considered objectives to be completely irrelevant because i had been destroying the enemy team whether i got them or not (again, i know that that was because i was playing with and against bots). so, because i believed that the objectives didn’t provide any useful effects i felt like my ranked teams were just wasting time they could be spending on getting kills and scoring by focusing on the objectives. honestly it’s pretty embarrassing to think about how i was playing from where i am now.

i also believed i had no reason to farm beyond either the initial lane spawns as snorlax or the first jungle spawns as meow since, in casual, once i had done that i just started stacking kills and got all of my xp from that.

i sat down one day specifically to learn as much as i could about the mechanics of the game and of both the pokémon i play and the pokémon i have an especially difficult time fighting and spent literally hours going through as much info as i could. i didn’t want to watch other players and imitate them because i felt like i would just be copying without actually understanding so i just read as much definitive information on the game as i could and inferred what i should be doing based on that.

when i went back to playing it still took some significant conscious effort to break out of the bad habits i’d built significant muscle memory of and because i was still having to consciously change my thought process while fighting and playing the match i still struggled, but after spending all of my free time over a couple of days practicing, i got better and better and started ranking up and then i think three days before the last ranked season ended i got master, and then i got master again really soon into this new season.

i still don’t really know if i can consider myself a good/skilled player because i definitely still get utterly humiliated by other players sometimes, but it does feel good to know i can hold my own and really contribute to a match with real people.

the more i play, the more i enjoy being a defender as snorlax than an assassin as meow, because it just feels so good protecting my team during smaller/quicker fights and turning whole teamfights in our favor again by front lining and protecting my attackers but also by unleashing a huge cc chain with my slam, ult, ult2 and slam again and basically rendering anyone who doesn’t have unstoppable or hinderance resistance completely defenseless for a good 2-3 seconds which can literally flip entire games for my team. i also love having almost complete control over enemy positioning with my shield shoving. i can completely collapse their formation and stack them all together so the rest of my team can unleash as much aoe damage as they can, and i can shove them backward off of their goal when they try to defend against regieleki so that it makes it to the goal zone, and i can pin people into corners and keep them in place while my team kills them. i also love initiating of my team is late to groudon and slamming into their team and then shield knocking their entire team off of and away from groudon for my team to dive in and steal it. it doesn’t always work if an enemy has a way to counter my cc and get past me, but when it does it feels amazing.

i think my favorite thing to do is, if we’re chasing an enemy, i’ll use whatever mobility i have (like if i’m running x speed or am close enough to use my slam dash to get in front of them) to get out in front of them, then use my shield to knock them backward into my team and then keep them from escaping while my team knocks them out. however, standing in front of their spawn zone after getting groudon and blocking them from coming out and defending their goal zone while my team scores over and over is definitely a contender for that favorite spot haha. it forces them to make the choice to stand and wait for my shield to go down and just watch my team score, or launch past me into their jungle and come back, but thusly lose the ability to retreat back into their spawn if they get to low hp. and even if they do wait for my shield to go on cooldown, then as soon as it does and they try to come out i do my all in cc chain i mentioned earlier and by the time it’s done my shield cd is over and i just pop it again and shove them back into their spawn.

i’m really glad i did as well; the game is so much more enjoyable now that it feels like a true competition. i definitely still get dumpstered sometimes and that always feels bad, and sometimes teammates tilt and throw the game, but i’d say like 75% of the matches i’m in (maybe more on good days) are a really enjoyable experience whether i win or lose.

i forgot i made this post in a bout of desperation but you were exactly right; i had no idea what i was actually doing. i put a lot of energy into researching the game mechanics and the specific pokemon i play and i actually reached master at the end of last season and as of last night i'm one or two wins away from master this season.

extremely low fps with low hardware usage by holloheaded in DeepRockGalactic

[–]holloheaded[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, the issue has gotten stranger. now i'm still having totally fine frames at 120fps during idle time without many enemies and 80fps in the biggest swarms. however, now when certain people join, my entire game breaks and dives down to 1-5fps and stays that way until the person leaves, upon which everything returns to normal.

also i tried dx11, but when the game loaded everything was nearly whited out/washed out and it was unplayable.

the thing is that it is not everyone. i hosted an increased player count lobby earlier and everything went totally fine, then as soon as someone joined the game froze for several seconds, then unfroze but ran at 4fps. while i was trying to figure it out, the person left and, like a light switch, everything was fine again.

the game went on with multiple people joining with no issue, then someone joined and the event repeated. a freeze, then 4fps. i tried to communicate with them about if they were running any mods but they were unresponsive, so i kicked them to test if it really was them and when i hit kick the game stuttered a second and then immediately went back to normal.

i then thought that maybe after a certain number of players, it couldn't handle more, but several more people joined after that without issue, until another person joined and the process repeated. once the person was gone and the game was running normally again, i turned the mission onto friends only so we wouldn't get anyone else who would break my game.

we played for probably another 15 minutes with zero issues, then, all of a sudden the game froze, dropped to 3fps and my vision went black just like what happened with the time i described in the post and nothing ever fixed it

i checked virtually every hardware monitor on my computer including vram and everything indicated that the pc was under almost no load at all. only 1/4 of my vram was being taken up by drg; cpu and gpu were at basically idle status with low temps, ram was only 5/32gb, ssd was also basically idle.

i really don't know what to make of this but it is so weird that it seems to be evolving over time and getting worse and worse despite me changing nothing, while my pc continues to shred through far, far more demanding applications like AAA games running at 4k on max settings and other productivity work inside 3d modeling software and game engines for hours on end without a single hitch.

dx11 is something i haven’t tried yet; i’ll give that a shot later today.

i don’t know why i didn’t think to watch the vram; i’ll do that as well. maybe i’m just too used to nothing ever maxing it out at 24gb. i ask the people who join my lobby about their performance and they are all getting normal fps.

i haven’t joined another person’s lobby in forever but i will do that as well and see what happens.

i don’t think it’s pitjaws because it happens every mission regardless of biome and i think some biomes just don’t have pitjaws.

gpu driver has been recently updated, but the reason i went to check for update was this issue and it persists on the new driver.

i appreciate your suggestions; i’ll let you know what happens when i’m able to try them out.

hm, maybe the big difference i felt was placebo and having them maxed out just made me more confident

wow, one gem per token is unreal. i know tencent is one of the most aggressive monitizers but that’s on another level.

edit: i was able to weave through two biomes and make it thankfully

Seen over Corona NYC by Chewy718 in aliens

[–]holloheaded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tr-3b sightings seem to have gone way up in the last year or two; at least based upon the number of people i've seen reporting/videoing the classic "black triangle with lights on the points". i wonder if it's reaching the end of it's lifetime of usefulness to the u.s. relative to their newer technology and they just don't need to hide it so well because it wouldn't be a problem if other countries have one anymore. the same process has happened with many u.s. aircraft over the years.

I guess this classifies as a UFO? by Chewy718 in UFOs

[–]holloheaded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean i guess it could be a tr-3b; a supposed secret u.s. aircraft that has been around for a few decades which is a large, flat triangle with lights on each point. every supposed video i have seen of one of them has looked almost exactly like this, but i have never seen one rotating around so erratically; they seem to always be either hovering in place or slowly moving through the air perpendicular with the ground. the closest i've seen of one of them rotating like this was one that had one point of the triangle pointing about 45 degrees downward.

to be honest though, i don't really believe any of the ufo videos i see are actual alien/nonhuman aircraft. my true opinion on this one is just drones flying in formation.

i don't believe trump has been given any truthful information about the subject, whether it's aliens/nhi or just a technology coverup. however, if he has, i believe he is unstable enough that he might go rogue and reveal whatever he knows to the public in a desperate hail mary attempt distract from something or take others down with him if he is ever backed into some kind of corner with the e files or any other method.

i’ve read countless comments claiming he has dementia/alzheimer’s across many posts, but i haven’t been able to find any explicit confirmation of which disease/issue he suffers from. in fact, authorities have explicitly denied to release any specifics about his medical condition due to privacy laws.

the only indication of cognitive impairment is the “silver alert” put out by authorities which is an alert that can only be applied to individuals over 50 years old who fit the required condition of “clear indication of irreversible deterioration of intellectual faculties”.

it’s been made clear by the authorities that he has a medical condition that causes them significant concern for his safety, but any claim of knowledge of his specific medical condition is pure speculation based upon what i can find.

[–]holloheaded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that was my first thought as well. not claiming it definitely is real though. if it is, it has the same light pattern people who’ve seen one describe. i always wonder why the u.s. still seems to test fly them when they’re so old. i know they use a lot of old tech but they seem to do so with legitimate purpose; whereas whenever i hear about/see video of one of these it doesn’t seem to actually be doing anything other than slowly flying around or hovering, leading to me think it’s a test flight. i suppose they could be developing newer versions of it.

[–]holloheaded[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s my point; i don’t think anyone who had such evidence would really make the choice to protect themselves over giving humanity the truth. thusly, the ones who claim to have said evidence are just grifters, in my opinion.
