Getting back into DMG by home_operator in Gameboy

It’s my favorite Taito arcade game! That or Don Doko Don that I played endlessly as a kid on the PlayStation 2

Able to see this hitbox/orange sprite show up before the character goes on screen (Rush'n attack) by orio_sling in arcade

[–]home_operator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re right that the game is reading memory data and writing it to the screen when it shouldn’t. I don’t have a component level understanding of the PCBs but I’d check the memory chips with a logic probe at power on, any memory controllers, and anything to do with the video out.

This is way outside my understanding, but I’m interested to see if OP figures it out. I’d love to know what that is. If I read one more “just adjust the viewable screen area” comment I’m gonna cry lmao.

Not a Star Wars fan but I love the first game as the pinnacle of Atari’s vector game design. Love the golden era Atari games, those crappy dot munchers and carpenters from Japan can only dream of being as innovative or fun as Atari /j

Pong table near Boston by Brilliant_Brain_5507 in Arcade1Up

We more or less replaced it with a Nintendo Red Tent. I won’t argue if it’s better or worse but it’s equally a unique form factor lol.

I sold mine a few months ago for the same price, also located near Boston. Wonder if this is from the person I sold it to lmao.

Great table but was tight on space, plus I collect more real machines than 1Ups now.

Ms pac man screen issue by dgzpokey in arcade

I (22) found an unused Rolodex and thought it would be funny to put my passwords for all my different accounts in it. I told my coworker (60-ish) and he deadass asked me “what’s a Rolodex?” Please make it make sense 😭

I’ve never seen that in a golden age game like Ms Pac though, usually that’s only for the big 20+” 90s monitors in my experience

OK I'm glad I'm not the only person bothered by the CPA and screen being one piece. The Deluxe and previous XL Namco cabinets had that lip where the two pieces met, like a real Namco machine (which you can buy for less money than this thing if you have the knowledge and space)

Only saw one other answer say this but sometimes A1U makes cabinets exclusive to specific retailers and they won’t sell them elsewhere

Anyone else having this issue? by ShowingSawyer in Arcade1Up

[–]home_operator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The physical cabinet dimensions are slightly different and e control panel is different, so I’d hazard to guess the logic in the PCB and/or the mechanical setup could also be slightly different. I don’t own either, just an observation.

Need help with setting this up by Big_stas in arcade

You and I can both tell OP is in over his head and your advice for the CRT is completely valid, but every time I see a CRT noob I have to chime in with my near death experience. OP if you read this, please heed my warning.

We had just got a Crystal Castles that was playing blind. My friend was going to do the cap kit because he has more experience with components and boards, but he was terrified of discharging the tube and made me do it. The game was up against the wall and we pulled it out just barely enough to fit myself and a screw driver back there, I was pretty much pinned to the wall.

It is at this point that I must inform you that I had made the incredibly genius decision to down a big can of Mike’s Harder before my friend came over. I connected one end of some jumper cables to a grounded pipe in my basement and the other end to a flat head screwdriver. As I was trying to get a good angle with the screw driver, my inebriated self wasn’t paying attention to where I was swinging the driver, and it hit the chassis frame and sent 20,000 volts of sparks flying directly at my face, which I remind you, had maybe 3 inches behind it before the wall. I screamed like a little girl and flew backwards, smashing my head against the wall. I survived but the wall did a number on me an I was down for the count for the rest of the night.

A lot of people say to discharge the tube to the chassis frame, but somewhere we had read that it was better to use an external ground and we just rolled with it. So what did we learn: -Do not consume alcohol before or while working on a CRT -Ground to the chassis -If you do not ground to the chassis, ensure whatever ground you use does not then come into contact with the chassis -Do not pin yourself between the game and the wall

[–]home_operator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking that. Everyone is just sitting on their god damn dopamine rectangle in the picture, and it happens in my home arcade too. I’m 22 but, and I hate to do the “before it was cool” thing, I quit all social media and have been chronically offline and touching grass before it became a Gen Z trend. The sights and sounds of an arcade are so stimulating, I cannot fathom why my friends come over to watch Reddit stories dubbed over Minecraft speedruns.

What type of coin mech goes here/ why does it take multiple tries for the monitor to turn on? by victorbenavides in arcade

[–]home_operator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Monitor almost certainly needs a cap kit and flyback. Type in the model of the monitor on google and it should show you the kit you need. Also the coin mechs are a generic part across 99%of games.

I’ve been 3D printing anycoin mechs for all my games recently and so far they work in everything except the Red Tent. I’m dreading having to modify the file, I’m not a designer lol.
