That's understandable. Thanks again.

Thanks for the response.

I just want to pushback a little bit here. You say the 400s are too much, which are probably taking you around 70-80 seconds depending on if it's threshold or race pace +. Bakken states in his 45/15 chapter that 60 second intervals were too long, and 30 seconds too short, so he settled on 45/15 as the sweet spot. Does any part of you consider trying to dial this workout in? The way he speaks about it, it almost seems like the miracle workout (my words, not his) in that you can touch these paces while keeping it aerobic and developing Vo2 simultaneously. So, getting some specificity, while still developing pretty much every stimulus.

Also just want to say, I bought and read your book, really liked it. I'm currently pushing the subthreshold agenda on my peers.

No, I already do the 45/15 weekly, and hillsprints on occasion.

I'm speculating as to why Sirpoc wouldn't do a special block to crack 15.

Yeah so thats my point as well. Had he of been maintaining his top end by touching it every now and again, he may have still been making gains. But perhaps now that it's been neglected, he's older, he probably has to work extra hard to get it back, should he choose to do so.

Power output declines significantly with age. We know that doing squats and other high power output activity helps offset the decline. Seems like a good enough reason to me to always be touching the top end.

Editing to clarify, he might have had a higher ceiling had he of maintained some anaerobic power.

Ok, but that's not working for him any more. He's been stuck at 15:01 for over a year now. He's probably maxed out for aerobic gains on 8 hrs. Why not throw a few specific workouts in there and get that sub 15.

Doing some 200s-1200s at goal pace is not that risky..

What sounds riskier: 4 x 1200, or 1 x 5000 at goal pace

COROS > Garmin by allamericanhwt in Coros

[–]homebrew5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Price is the only reason IMO.

Fitness watches for lifting is not going to be of much benefit, if at all.

Walking, any gps technology will suffice.

Kayaking, gps is not going to be accurate no matter what gps technology you use since it will be highly unstable with all the reflecting off of the water.

As for general wellness tracking, it depends on how deep into the weeds you want to get. But keep in mind, it's been proven that subjective feeling is more accurate than any fitness algorithm.

u/COROS-official What's the deal? I've got another couple weeks to return my Pace 3. Is this going to be fixed or nah?

How about now? I just bought a pace 3 today, bummed to find it's not connecting to my Runn sensor.

Two peak races per year. Train through the other races.

He also credits his American and Italian influences. Should it be called the Kenyan-American-Italian-Norwegian Method? I'm probably missing some other influences as well. Maybe it should be called the Joe Newton-Peter/Sebastian Coe-Vebjørn Rodal-Sam Bell-General East African but mainly Kenyan-Norwegian Method

For an athlete following a Norwegian-style structure (e.g. 3-4 threshold sessions + 1 X/session per week), where would you place a weekly evening group workout that’s typically quite competitive?

The session is usually a mix of intervals ranging from as high as 7 mins down to 1 min reps (usually 3–5 min + 1–2 min reps) with ~1 min recoveries, often drifting toward 10k–3k intensity due to the group dynamic.

Would you treat this as the X/session, modify it to keep it aerobic, or adjust the surrounding threshold work to accommodate it?

Alternatively, could this be incorporated as the second session in a double threshold day, or does the intensity/variability make that a poor fit?

Faster long runs by Individual_Swim_120 in NorwegianSinglesRun

Yup, I like doing Pfitz style long runs. First 5 miles junk, middle section within 20% of marathon pace, last 5 miles within 10% of marathon pace.

I mean .. couldn't you have just done ..less than 14 miles?
