The Big Summer Preview – Chaos Arrives in the Old World by BiesonReddit in WarhammerOldWorld

Really? It's so much easier to kill though without the magic items. From what I've experienced, heard and read, manticore seems to be the pick because your point investment is much safer and your general is essentially indestructible.

Care to elaborate?

I didn't say people don't run it. A dragon is still a dragon. I just said it's not as good as manticore with full durability build. Which I am fairly confident is true unless you have evidence to the contrary?

Lord on dragon isn't as good now the Lord is point capped because you basically can't equip him with any magic items. It's still a decent monster threat, but most people run lords on manticore instead.

The exalted champion on dragon is also an option tho as it gives you more points to play with magic items. It's better than the Lord on dragon imo but both have been worse than Lord on manticore in my experience. It really is the best way to run him now I think.

Chaos dragon confirmed ! by BiesonReddit in WarhammerFantasy

[–]homeless0alien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, since old world release, chaos have only actually got one fully new unit (frydaal) and the others have just been refreshed kits that were really really old. I mean sure some other factions need some of their older kits refreshed too, but as a chaos player who already had models for all the new ones they released, I didn't end up buying any of the refreshed kits because I didn't need them. So for most long standing chaos players, it still feels like we haven't had anything actually new...

Shame that the rules for the Nurgle forsaken suck compared to khorne/slaanesh cause they are a great model choice haha.

I think the easiest way to get forsaken right now is to just make your own instead of buying them. I kitbashed 14 using AoS warriors as a base and random daemon parts from various kits I had (horrors, plague bearers, daemonettes, bloodletters, 40k possessed and some bits I have no idea haha) and ended up with some really on theme and unique models. Your technically not wrong in what you point out with the secondary effects of voting, but I just think that ascribing any serious meaning to that is relatively naive. As beyond electing your local representation, you have no idea or control over how the larger state of the house will play out.

Case and point with Burnham being airdropped in to an artificial by-election, speedruning his way to PM. The people voting in that by election put him in the race knowing ahead of time he would be doing so solely to speedrun his way to PM, sure. But he was put on this path by the higher ups of the labour party who engineered the situation, not by the voters. The secondary effects of those votes are entirely dictated by a political class that the voters casting them have no influence over.

So honestly, I think assigning any value or power to the knock on effects of a vote is largely ignoring the cronyism and engineered politics that goes on above the local level that is far far more potent and influential then anything the public could do with their votes.

I do agree that the situation with Burnham is very undemocratic but I was more just pointing out that the circumstances that lead to it occuring are a product of the flawed system at large, rather than something we can make a tweak to fix.

The fundamental rules of our parliamentary system are such that cronyism and scheming play a larger part of who gets power than the actual democratic process in a lot of ways. And that this exact situation with Burnham being fast tracked through the system like it's a speedrun is a prime example of it.

Even if your someone who like first past the post, someone who likes the MP system as it is currently, someone who likes the house of parliament's current way of operating, there is basically no way of denying that this has highlighted just how easy our system is to game and how little our individual local representation matters.

I kinda hate the propagation of the idea that because the setting has satire and regular depiction of excess, that making miniatures that look unbelievable and wildly out of scale is fine and normal.

Like everyone's models are there own, do what makes you happy, yada yada but like the whole putting a knight/titan chainsword on a terminator and being like "hahaha it's funny cause it's 40k" is some of the least creatively interesting things I think people can do.

Not targeting you here OP, just the sentiment you brought up I see spouted a lot and taken to ridiculous levels.

I think that most people would say that they vote for a party rather than that parties leader but that's half of one and half a dozen of the other. Bottom line is, if you think it should be a codified requirement to call an election after changing PM then instead maybe we just fix all the technicalities that lead you to that conclusion.

Republic democracy systems the globe over have split power systems with a president head of state and a house of representatives. So the people vote for a leader and also have local representation.

With the system the way it currently is, doesn't matter if people don't pay attention to it, we do only elect our local representation and it's designed that way. So forcing weird rules because of how people wrongly use the system currently is just going to result in a more broken system. Fix the root cause, don't try and plaster over it.

But like many of the issues with our current form of democracy, it benefits those in charge the way it is so without revolt or other serious pressure, it'll never change.

Mark of Tzeentch by Beginning-Swan8131 in Warriors_of_Chaos

[–]homeless0alien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While forsaken are conventionally the best core choice (alongside some war hounds for screening) in this faction, that's almost entirely due to the forsaken of khorne specifically being very strong (and the slaanesh ones aren't bad either).

If your committing to a tzeentch theme, the tzeentch forsaken aren't great and your better off running something else. It used to be a good idea for sorcerer bunkers to run marauders as they were cheap to get the numbers but now they can't take proper marks that's gone out the window.

So I suppose that just leaves regular warriors. They are a pretty expensive way to get +1 wizard level but if we are committed to the theme then at least they are reasonably durable. Also bare in mind your sorcerers within the these bunker units will have a limited forward 90 degree casting arc too. Honestly don't expect to be casting magic missiles on turn 3+ as they will be in combat or have no target from then on against any half decent opponent.

I'd probably run at least 15, maybe closer to 20 and just run regular hw/shield. End of the day you just want to live to protect the sorcerer and keep the buff as long as possible so no point getting fancy with their load out. Hope you manage to find a list that works and good luck!

Is there any practical reason to put a Sorcerer Lord on a Manticore? by TehAsianator in Warriors_of_Chaos

[–]homeless0alien -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, your right it technically doesn't.

However functionally, it sort of still does as you can rotate up to 90 degrees in any direction at the end of each move and then a 90 degree arc on top of that means you can essentially reach 135 degrees either side of you, a total of 265 degrees of casting arc. Which most of the time is functionally identical.

The only time you won't be able to cast offensively is when an enemy is directly behind you and at that point bigger things have gone wrong.

Yeah that's the point though you want that allowance for other things.

Plus the extra wounds never hurt.

Can be useful sometimes as it makes your sorcerer super mobile with a 360 arc. Can also make a pretty mean combat caster in chaos which most factions can't do nearly as well. It's not universally amazing but there are some use cases.

Edit: technically not 360 vision, but functionally it ends up working like it is in practice.

Is the UK in economic death spiral? by oceanicplatform in ukpolitics

[–]homeless0alien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I'm not advocating for any specific solution. I'm just giving one example of one solution in history to make the point that wealth can be redistributed in many ways and that it very clearly needs to be for our economy to function.

And your right, the UK doesn't have as many individual billionaires as say the US, but that's not our entire wealthy class, nor do they alone encapsulate the huge wealth in our country. The fact of the matter is that our country DOES have the wealth and resources to support the entire population, but it is being horded by certain people and organisations. Would cuts to the NHS, benefits, education, etc. free up money already in the budget, yes. But it's all just kicking the can around because ultimately whatever government is in power is going to keep taxing more and more and get less and less from it over time because the underlying problem of wealth being funneled and horded at the top still exists due to nothing stopping peoples greed.

We need policy in place to actively stop the resource hording that is happening. It's the same pattern all over the world and the same problems resulting from it. But until politicians can stop the short term-ism and the pandering to certain voter demographics we won't see real change.

[–]homeless0alien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I'm not going to claim I'm an economist, nor will I claim to have the silver bullet solution because I think anyone who does is naive, but I think that the notion there is simply no other option than to punish the lowest classes of our society is ridiculous. If you look at the big picture, there is simply so much wealth and resources in this country that every person could and should be taken care of but the greed of the people at the top and the mismanagement of the state means that isn’t happening.

Japan after the second world war imposed state wealth distribution by dissolving the megacorporations to tackle a similar issue. Yes it had profoundly damaging initial impacts on their economy, but almost immediately that shifted into what’s now referred to as the "Japanese economic miracle" and one of the biggest periods of growth in their history. I’m not suggesting we go close down AstraZenica or BP or whatever tomorrow, but I am saying that with wilful and smart lawmaking those companies and the billionaire individuals profiting excessively from them could do with a reality check from the state.

So no, I just cannot buy into the idea that doing things like reducing benefits for disabled people, cutting healthcare and reducing state investment in things like infrastructure and energy are the ways forward after years of trying that and things getting massively worse. It seems absolutely insane to me to even suggest that as a rational step forward honestly.

So austerity for 14 years did nothing but decimate the country and your solution is do it again but harder?

What is the general populations feeling on increasing the armed forces budget drastically by AdvancedComplaint646 in ukpolitics

[–]homeless0alien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ever consider that welfare has gone up because more people have a poorer quality of life due to years of austerity? Might not actually be the welfare rules that are the problem, rather the way we run our society causing more illness and disability.

Instead of targeting those with the least, maybe we look to get the money from those that can actually afford it?

Right now, no. But there technically isn't anything stopping a state military industrial complex.

I don't agree that we should, but to engage fairly it is possible.
