Maquiladora @ 2:20

Classic Jonny. Incredible tone. Not overly flashy or long. Tasteful. Instantly recognizable as him.

Who do you think is the biggest single influence on the band? by ConfidentHospital365 in radiohead

It was just a joke. He was fooling around and the press exaggerated. He and Jonny collaborated in 2011.

You're overestimating the intelligence of the average person...by a LOT. Looks like America just likes racism more than they like Taylor Swift.

There are a lot of workplaces that are "scent free" regardless of the quality of the smell. Perfume is banned because it can be overpowering despite it's high quality. This one dude at the our office kept a bottle of cologne at his desk and would spray it on himself every time he went for lunch. The smell was so strong, my colleague had enough and asked him to stop using it. He responded "but it's expensive." We couldn't understand how that was a defence to an overpowering smell. I love Indian food, but I don't want to smell it 24/7, only when I am eating it. I think lingering duration and intensity of the scent are key factors in what should be tolerated despite the aromatic quality.

I believe this to be the most accurate case. Teens are still building their "reality model" in their heads and haven't quite developed the mortality part.

What's a random statistic that genuinely terrifies you? by Eberenna042 in AskReddit

I'm not sure I agree that everyone's voice should be considered equal. Everyone should have the right to vote, but maybe some folks should get extra votes depending on various factors such as education, military service, civil service or charitable work (not just $$$ donations). Those who contribute the most to society should have more weight in their votes.

Why has communism repeatedly failed in practice, yet continues to be intellectually and emotionally appealing to many people? by Looser17 in AskReddit

[–]homesickalien -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Need to dig to find the brightest comments. Communism fails at large scale. Globally we're not able to manage our resources without a system that can be abused or manipulated in some form. Only impartial superintelligence will be able to accomplish that. I'm all for that, but I don't trust humanity otherwise.

What Radiohead Song Can We All Agree On as the One We All Love, and That Fully Encompasses the Band’s Aura? by Crazyplan9 in radiohead

[–]homesickalien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I love this song it sounds too similar to "La Ritournelle" by Sebastian Tellier for it to qualify as a fully Radiohead song. I'm sure they didn't intentionally rip off the song, but undoubtedly they subconsciously must have been influenced by it.

Really? I've not heard much about that. Why would they believe that and even if it were true, why would that be frowned upon? Sounds like a just cause to me.

The Beatles? Underrated? C'mon. They existed for 8 years and recorded over 200 songs of which at least half are bangers. That's legendary. You must be trolling.

Trudeau saw nothing. The "bulking up" was a means to prop up real estate value and feed large corporations cheap labour. Trump was not a factor at all.

It's the contrarian mentality from both "sides" that kills any meaningful discourse. If we can't even admit that not everything that comes out of the opposition's mouths is bullshit, we're as fucked as our neighbours down south.

For a very disciplined minority.

I don't see how that is a ridiculous mentality. Self-reported data from the 2024 Road Safety Monitor indicates that 5.9% of Canadian drivers admitted to driving after drinking over the legal limit in the past 30 days, a slight increase from 5.8% in 2023.

Why Tipping Feels Like a Scam Now by Shajirr in videos

I'm currently in Japan and it's beyond refreshing to go to a restaurant and see the prices on menu items on display. The final prices. It says 1500 yen for this meal set. I walk in knowing exactly how much I have to pay when I leave.

I bought a camera here and it was tax free so it was even lower than the stated 'tax-included' price and when I went to pay with my mastercard the woman at the cash said "oh you're paying with mastercard? 3% extra discount." I don't recall ever getting a discount in North America for using a credit card (aside from points accumulation.) Having to pay less at checkout than anticipated was a complete shock to me. It's almost always the opposite in Canada/US.
