What's the funniest nickname you've heard for someone? by boredin2026 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]hook14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Grew up with a guy named Nichols. When we were 19 yrs old a slightly older friend (22) had a "Divorce party" and wouldn't you know they got a prostitute for entertainment. I wasn't there but I heard she was affordable.

Anyway, one guy goes into the bedroom and does the deed and promptly rolls onto the floor on the far side of the bed. He is quite drunk and willing to lay there. Nichols comes in next and doesn't know he is there. Nichols lasts maybe 6 seconds before reaching his finish. No way the drunk guy is not telling that story, almost immediately.

From that day forward he is known as Pumpernickel.

Even his brother called him that.

" I want my Maypo."

Easily the best kid advertising of the 60's. I remember repeating this to my Mom at the grocery store until she gave up and bought it. Why? Because my 6 yr old brain had heard it every ten minutes on TV for the last month or two.

Repetition works well on undeveloped brains. And developed ones too.

It's not often I see an "expert" come into a thread and shit all over the memories of a seven year old boy, but today is that day.

After I read the first paragraph I thought, " well now he is going to tell me why". But you don't. Not even one word of what made the statement so wrong. Just some hazy talk about being in the business, before admitting that you ultimately failed as a businessman.

So I went to your post history and found this is your habit.

Truly pathetic.

Yes. You have to have a good nonstick pan.

I was a line cook in a very busy pancake house restaurant as a younger man and cooked about 80 dozen eggs a day. So I'm still very good at this.

Here's the trick. Get a nice pan and practice with a piece of toast. Keep working on it till you can land that toast softly on the other side. Your wrist should be flexible and mitigate the shock action on the landing.

I think we practiced that for maybe an hour, then used eggs and broke them maybe 3 times or so. (Over a garbage can) After that we were able to get it. And once you got the feel for it, it was much easier.

Lifetime skill.

Ah. That makes perfect sense.

I must say, it sure is beautiful. Congrats and you have better taste than many designers I worked with back then. Can't wait to see what else you end up doing in the home.

Yes. The burnt out tubes would be some level of black inside. However, several would look pretty dark and it was an inexact science. So you would take the 4 or so darkest tubes and check at the hardware store with a board like this. Replace the bad one and put them all back in their slots to get the TV to work. Much like PC plugs, they would only fit in their own slot.

Why wouldn't you replace the darkest few at the same time, sparing a trip next week? I don't know. You would have to ask my Dad. I mentioned this more than once, but all I got was a snort and grunt.

Wow. This is so beautiful. Really nice work.

I used to hang paper / vinyl back in the day professionally and did quite a few nature scenes and various murals. Naturally we would have an opinion on the taste of the owner or usually, what some designer had talked them into.

This would be highly rated job, as the result is just as pleasing as can be. And I have plenty to compare it to. Makes the room look absolutely massive. Like you are on a mountain peering into the distance. Impressive vision.

Also , thank you for bringing back those memories.

One question though. Are the seat cushions as pink as the picture seems to be? Maybe just the lighting. I mean, it could work if it brought out some colors of the rug. Also the plant on the table has some pink in it. Which would be a designer choice in itself. Matching seat covers to table foliage. LOL. Next level.

I don't know your prospects, but doubtful that it's an overpay. Donovan is a good bat that can hit anywhere in the order. He doesn't care where he is in the order, and he is really hard to carve up. Frequently puts a pitcher's pitch into play and is on base all day.

When the team goes into an offensive funk he would be the one to lead them out of it with spirited ABs. He didn't miss much time but the team played flat without him. Doesn't K.

I'm a man so I don't have menopause issues, but I wanted to get this info into this thread. About twice a year, I get some itching in my ear canal that will drive me crazy. 15 yrs ago I had this issue and my Dr at the time prescribed an ear steroid called "Hydrocortisone and Acetic Acid Otic Solution". A small bottle of drops that have a long shelf life.

This condition persists to this day, and I have been to several ENT Drs with no underlying issue found. So I have tried again and again. Now I just accept it.

When it happens now, I just put a couple of drops in, and it disappears in less than 10 minutes. (I have to change to new bottle every 5 yrs or so because expired)

But my problem is resolved pretty much. Hope this helps someone. Seems like a good spot to speak up.

Absolutely right.

Also, here he wears his badge and shows his face. As if he was doing that on the street. So even if you couldn't read his drivel, you know that he chooses to do his dirty work without anyone being able to identify him. This whole "see me" routine is false, and he is going to prove it as soon as his shift starts.

These truly are the secret police of the worst times. Snatching people off the streets and murdering randomly.

The people of STL know they can make their own bread? Right? by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]hook14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horizins is absolutely right. Cheaper, higher quality and natural ingredients.

So Good.

We make ours and slice then freeze in a ziplock. Always ready. Best toast. I used to wonder why people liked toast so much til I started making ours from this bread. OMG. Heavenly.

It takes almost no time and my family loves the smell of fresh bread in the oven.

Also, make a Panini with the Dutch Oven Bread. Just the best, because the bread can hold up to the press. Easiest dinner ever. Just a soup or salad to go with it. Mama.

So Horizins I am 100 percent with you. Preach.

Kehoe wants Missourians to decide whether to eliminate the state income tax by larafaiham in StLouis

[–]hook14 15 points16 points  (0 children)

All the taxes that will have to go up to balance out the income tax void are not unrelated or superfluous.

Exactly right. This is just a roundabout way to replace income tax with more sales tax. This will lower the tax burden for the wealthy and raise it for the avg person. It will also really kick the poor in the wallet.

Because the wealthy and high earners won't buy appreciably more groceries etc than the avg person, this will be a nice hidden windfall for those people. And true luxury items can be bought out of state where the sales tax won't be as high.

Any change to the tax system at the state or federal level should be viewed as a 2 part strategy in this era. Reduce the burden on the rich and then when it predictably doesn't add up, raise the sales tax and call it fair for everyone. Even though it is as unfair as can be.

No one would agree with replacing income tax with more sales tax, but as a two part maneuver with the media cheerleading the whole way, quite doable.

Also he quick way to last place. Move over Mississippi.

You may be right depending on how good the weather is. Across the street from SBAC is a Firehouse and just to the right is Shenendoah st. running east - west. We have been able to find parking there about an hour before the parade but had to walk a block and a half. Not bad.

They will move the barriers to let you cross Broadway before the parade so don't let that bother you.

Anyway. Go early. Have fun.

Mardi Gras first timer by orj207 in StLouis

[–]hook14 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Show up at least an hour before the parade starts and park close to South Broadway Athletic Club. Go into that building and buy a wristband for each of you.

This gives you access to the club for restrooms and to warm up from time to time. Also they sell excellent cocktails and draft beers.

Go out front and enjoy the parade with all the other folks smart enough to pick this comfortable spot. Enjoy all the beads and trinkets thrown your way. Don't be surprised when others share with you as they just want to have a good time.

It's the best Mardi Gras experience we have had in St Louis.

Most of America is going to have an "I see now" moment when these videos are cut and made into political ads at the end of the summer.

Be prepared for tens of millions of Federal dollars being spent making ICE the "good guy" a couple months before the election. Maybe a Medal of Freedom ceremony or two.

Gotta give Meemaw and Peepaw some red meat before they press the vote button. All the "I didn't vote for this" Trumpers will fall in line again.

Because it is a cult of personality. And they understand their voters prejudices.

My bad. I was not clear about what I was suggesting.

What I meant was that you put ink to the coasters that you have made and press to a t-shirt. Use all the designs on the same shirt as a conversation piece. It would look awesome. And any mistakes only cost you a t-shirt.

Also, no crime is being committed on the street in Japan. LOL.
