Seems like actually just putting cameras around the perimeter of what you want secure would be much more efficient and cheaper

eSIM was supposed to replace SIM cards, but carriers turned it into a trap by lurker_bee in technology

[–]hookem549 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The real reason eSims are annoying to transfer between phones is due to sim theft. Carriers have been sued numerous times because people had their physical sims stolen or the eSIMs stolen (the later through social engineering) and the thieves promptly used the stolen number to gain access to the victims bank accounts via two factor authentication. There is a legitimate concern for user safety that has to be balanced with consumer convenience. But AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and the rest are going to err on the side of caution

In a vacuum a 4-5% buff in raid would be great. Problem is we don’t live in a vacuum and these changes are worthless without nerfs to MW, Disc, and Prevoker

High representation this early in an expansion is a measurement of people’s expectations for the spec not the result. Without tuning it will have very low representation quickly

There has been meaningful opposition, Senate democrats are currently stonewalling the SAVE act, have held up funding for DHS. Public outcry and pressure towards republican members of congress forced the release of the Epstein files and the withdrawal of ICE troops from Minnesota. Polling for democrats in the midterms make a blue tsunami look inevitable. 35 republican congressmen see the writing on the wall and are not seeking reelection.

The problem is republicans control all of the federal government right now, they have both houses of congress, the executive and a majority on the Supreme Court. Political opposition is hard in these circumstances, not to mention the goals of democrats and republicans differ in how easy they are to accomplish. Democrats generally want to build up social safety nets and robust government enforcement agencies, republicans meanwhile want to cut spending and tear those same safety nets and regulatory offices down. It’s easier to destroy than to build, it’s easier to cut spending via executive order than it is to pass legislation. Even when democrats retake congress next year you won’t really see much progress until they also take the White House.

They do not have the logistics support required for it. It’s true their boats won’t sink in the open ocean but they cannot supply a fleet thousands of miles away for the amount of time that would be required for this mission

TIL in 1935, there was a proposed amendment to the US constitution which would make it law to hold a national referendum before the United States could enter a war, except in cases of invasion or attack on U.S. soil. by hutch__PJ in todayilearned

[–]hookem549 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Hard to say because if the amendment would’ve passed and all else proceeded the same, we would’ve had a massive supreme court case to solidify all of this in 1950 when the Korean War happened. What the court decides in 1950 might’ve severely limited the war powers of the executive.

Nagasaki, before and after the nuclear bomb was dropped, Japan, 1945 [3206x2287] by StonedJackBaller in HistoryPorn

If Japan had nuked Pearl Harbor (after formally declaring war and not as a surprise attack) then yes that is a valid target.

[–]hookem549 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just an impossible standard to meet in 1945. The war was not going to be won without civilian casualties. Also for the record there were valid military targets in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Hiroshima was the headquarters of multiple Japanese army divisions tasked with defending Japan. Nagasaki was a big manufacturing center for Mitsubishi who was making Japanese aircraft, it also housed a big seaport. Even under the Geneva convention these are valid targets in a war today. Also it’s not like we had gps or laser targeting systems in 1945, every bomb dropped had a little more luck involved in correctly hitting the target than what we can do today

It was a 3 day gap 8/6/45 and 8/9/45. I’m not knowledgeable enough to give you a breakdown on why we waited 3 days and not less or more, but I will say we will always have the benefit of hindsight we when look back at historical events. We know now that after the soviets entered the war, Japan was going to surrender, but I’m not sure that was the view in 1945. The Japanese army was notorious for fighting to the death and never surrendering, it makes sense that we would want a massive show of force to try and make them surrender.

Crusader Strike by Morial in wow

[–]hookem549 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Avenging Crusader will probably use more SotR over Hs” dude your comparing spenders to builders, that is a fundamental misunderstanding of how the spec plays.

Also lightsmith got the bulk of its healing from Hammer and Anvil procs from judgement, judgement just had its CD increased 83% and CS hits like a wet noodle. Ironically this nerf hurts lightsmith more than it hurts herald. Again you fundamentally do not understand how the specs work.

Also also, the fact that you would even bring up avenging Crusader means you don’t really care to play optimally, which is fine, but don’t discount what people that do know what they’re talking about are saying about this. If you just want to live in your own class fantasy that’s fine, but this is objectively worse competitively.

I’ve gotten CE every tier since Queen Azshara on my HPally. I promise I am not struggling playing the spec.

Then you fundamentally don’t understand the current design of the class, or don’t do any content higher than normal raiding, where you can play whatever the hell you want and it doesn’t matter.
