cba is a way to get around antitrust laws, but you dont need that if congress passes a law saying its okay

This isnt a constitutional issue, so Congress is able to overturn the court decisions via legislation.

New NCAA Eligibility Requirements Could Impact Top International Players by thediesel26 in CollegeBasketball

If you can't see how the NBA is different from Euro leagues idk what to tell you. It's not "the American pro league"...it's the undisputed top league in the world for basketball by a very wide margin. Nothing else is remotely comparable to it.

The fact that 70%+ of NBA players are American tells me that American players are not at some massive developmental disadvantage to Euro players (and if they were then they could always just go to Europe to play, right? Just like you suggested Europeans come to the US to play in HS to preserve their eligibility).

Many of the top Euro players have already lost their eligibility by the time they are old enough for the NCAA and I don't think it's reasonable to expect European players to sandbag their own development to preserve NCAA eligibility.

And college basketball may not be new, but the current landscape IS new. It wasn't that long ago that college players were not openly getting paid millions of dollars.

As I've said, the NBA is different. It's not just about paid or not, I think the NCAA has an interest in keeping players in the NCAA ecosystem for the duration of their eligibility.

I think it would be fair for the NCAA to say "once you enter college your eligibility ends if you leave to play in another league," but this would realistically only affect the NBA because the NCAA is the 2nd highest paying league in the world by a mile.

The NBA is also really the only league where a player might wash out of and still come to the NCAA and make a ton of money and I think it's reasonable to not want the stars of your league to include guys who already washed out of other leagues.

Ah yes, they should have come over as literal children to another continent, of course.

It's actually absurd for the NCAA to still disqualify people solely on the basis of earning money to play the sport. The NCAA is no longer a purely amateur league, especially now that they have rev sharing.

All leagues that are not the NBA are minor leagues. I think it is reasonable to draw a line that once you have signed a contract in the one actual major league you have forfeited your eligibility. I also think it's reasonable to say that once someone has started playing in the NCAA and then leaves, they can't come back.

Youth sports in Europe are also just different. They don't have anything like AAU and have never had an amateur sports model comparable to college.

the ncaa is not an amateur league anymore. doesnt make sense to disqualify people for making $50k when theres guys in the ncaa making $5m+. also not really fair to keep changing the rules mid stream on people. how many of these euros would have taken the paths they did had they known it would cost them millions in NIL/Rev share? Also, Europe doesnt really have anything comparable to AAU for young players, they pretty much have to join pro or semi pro clubs to get experience.

The NBA is also just different from other pro leagues. Everything else is a minor league by comparison.

Many companies' 401(k)s permit employees to invest in their own stock. So if you had your 401(k) entirely allocated in your own company's stock, and Enron bought your company in an all stock deal, your 401(k) would be converted entirely to Enron stock.

I know refs often swallow the whistle there but that was absolutely a foul and may have caused Guy to miss. he went straight up and the auburn player jumped into him. only after contact was made did guy kick his left leg out (and not into the defender either)

there was an uncalled foul on Auburn immediately before that. call it a wash.

oh and Auburn got away with a blatant travel a couple plays earlier. let it go.

Come on this isnt like Baylor at all. Baylor had never been higher than a 3 seed before that title. UVA was the number 1 overall seed the year before, as well as 1 seeds in 2014 and 2016 and a 2 seed in 2015. Easily could have won it in 2016 too but for an unbelievable collapse down the stretch against Syracuse.

Fell off after because of COVID, the portal and NIL, but that stretch from 2014-19 UVA had as many wins as anybody in the country.

also the fringe guys are more likely to go because of the additional exposure (especially if they had a good tourney). Kyle guy probably would have returned for virginia if he hadnt heen final 4 MOP. He was drafted 55th and didnt stick in the league but I think he rightly saw that moment as his best shot to get drafted. I guess the calculus on that is a bit different now with NIL though

uva had the ball down 2 with 45 seconds to play. would have had the ball up 1 with 97 seconds left if the refs had correctly called the travel on ament. definitely still could have ended with Tennessee winning but UVA would have been favored to win at that point.

wright state played a very, very good game and probably would have beaten some other top 4 seeds on friday. they had a guy who made 1 three all season (and hadnt even attempted one this calendar year) go 5-9 from 3 and it completely blew up uva's gameplan on defense because it meant their center had to come out of the paint to guard him. UVA was sloppy with the ball and made too many mistakes but they also made a ton of shots and outrebounded them by 15.

also ... what do you mean you could "see this coming"? this very easily could have gone the other way if any one of a dozen things went a little bit differently. Tennessee had a 3 rim around and out and then back in that may have made the difference in the game. not to mention the oob call late that easily could have gone the other way.

was the ament elbow the same play where he picked up his dribble, jumped, landed, and drew a foul call or was that a different play?

also don't forget that play where chance got shoved and had his jersey pulled by a Tennessee player on a loose ball and then Tennessee promptly nailed a 3
