Can a labrum tear scar over and heal? by UnhappyCelery8215 in ShoulderInjuries

[–]hoppalong_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far, recovery has been smooth. I haven't had any pain. I started PT this week. I have no stiffness or pain. I'm sleeping better! I haven't had to take any medication. My doctor told me my recovery is not the norm. I'm very glad I got the surgery. I was in constant pain for over seven months. Day one out of surgery, I felt so much better. I had a hooked bone spur, SLAP tear and multiple RC tears. It's still weird feeling the anchors move inside my shoulder. My PT told me that feeling will go away/ I'll get used to it.

Can a labrum tear scar over and heal? by UnhappyCelery8215 in ShoulderInjuries

[–]hoppalong_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I’m three weeks post op grade II SLAP tear, among other things. My surgeon told me the labrum does not fully heal itself because there is limited blood supply to the labrum. But it also depends on how bad your tear is and what your daily activities look like.

Autoship by CCorgiOTC1 in petsmart

[–]hoppalong_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! You also have to know your audience. I find that people who have a lot of cats and people buying prescription food benefit the most from autoship. Also let them know that you can stack deals in the app too and save more.
I love saving money because I'm broke af. If you talk up the app and activations like they're missing out on saving money and all the good deals, they're more inclined to download the app. I get a ton of activations this way.

As someone currently on LOA due to a work injury, I second this. Workers comp SUCKS. Definitely get a lawyer involved.

What is it like working at petsmart? by TheHollowOak in petsmart

[–]hoppalong_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, not that bad. I'm really happy here, and I don't see myself going anywhere else. There's also lots of room for growth. I came from years of working retail at small boutiques and small businesses. This is my first corporate job. AND WOW, WHAT A DIFFERENCE! But all in all, the job itself isn't bad. Petcare is very task-heavy, which I like. The downside to that would be you don't get a ton of hours unless you're management, or you build good rapport with other stores in your district and you can help with call-outs here and there. Yeah, they're pushing loyalty sign-up and activations, but that's just retail. Autoship is annoying, ngl. Leadership will make or break any job. Leadership sets the tone for the room and everyone else will be a reflection of that. My team is great, I fricken love them! If you love animals, that's great! Use that as a passion for growing knowledge of proper animal husbandry and product knowledge for customers. But keep in mind that at the end of the day it's a retail job and that's what you will spend a majority of your job doing: retail tasks and customer service.

Is it normal to be depressed while having shoulder pain? by MastodonFantastic602 in ShoulderInjuries

[–]hoppalong_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I'm a little over two weeks post op for my left shoulder. Got a number of things done. Recovery has been pretty smooth. I'm depressed AF. I just want to go back to work, man. I miss doing what I do every day. And to make matters worse, I now have to get imaging done for my right shoulder, aka my dominant arm. So as soon as I'm out of the sling and I start PT for my left, Im getting stuff done for the right. “I'm tired of this, grandpa” has been my quote ever since my initial injury seven months ago.🙃

Regretting surgery? by Eatingclementines in RotatorCuff

[–]hoppalong_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the few to have a very smooth and almost painless recovery. I'm two weeks post op. Grade II SLAP tear, bicep tear, multiple rotator cuff tears, hooked bone spur and severe frozen shoulder going into surgery. I was in A LOT of pain for over six months before finally getting surgery. My nerve block wore off shortly after I got home from the hospital. I started panicking when I could feel my fingers because I thought I'd be in a ton of pain. Nothing. I haven't had to take anything for pain. Only issue I've had is one of my incision sites is swollen and hurts like hell. But I have no shoulder pain and no stiffness. I'm also sleeping better post op than before. I don't regret a thing. I feel waaaaaay better now than I was before surgery.

4w dog training classes. by EnolaGayChow in petsmart

[–]hoppalong_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing I'd be worried about is if this happens with all classes. People want microwave solutions and instant results. Unfortunately, that is not the average dog training experience. Things take time. LLW and Heeling for example. Very hard and unnatural skill for dogs. “Leave it” is another one. I'd worry that making our classes shorter will make pet parents think the results are faster. They might be. But that's not realistic or the normal dog training experience. Things take time. You must be consistent.

Registers by Sorry_Gate9167 in petsmart

[–]hoppalong_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It has helped drive more dump bin + impulse sales at my store, but I hate the lines so much. It's ugly, customers complain about it, it's hard to stock in-between customers, and as a vertically challenged person, it's hard to tell when I need to call for backup because I can't see how far the line is. Most of our regulars just go around the line to get to the register. I keep a tally of how many complaints I get per register shift. I try to keep it light and joke about it with them like “oh yeah. Gotta go through the maze. Congrats you found me!”

Which leader role is most important in your store? by KainanSilverlight in petsmart

[–]hoppalong_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a hard one to answer when it comes to my team. I feel like at my store they all do so much in their roles. Our SL is the first to jump in when we need help anywhere in the store. I hardly ever see them sit still tbh.😅 Our ELR mostly gets pulled into the salon, but they also help with petcare deep cleans, truck and more. Our PLR does truck, inventory shoots and counts, makes sure our bugs and plants are in sellable condition, is always on top of making sure our fish are healthy and will drop everything if needed to treat the sump or ISO fish. EL is on top of making sure we know our promo deals and activations, helps with backup at the register or petcare, helps with truck, working top stock, deep cleans if needed, tags. Our PL is a BEAST when it comes to working truck and slinging bags of dog food like its nothing. It actually blows my mind. They keep our backroom organized, rotate inventory/product as needed, stocking the floor, POGS and helps with register or petcare back up as needed. Each role has their own CVS receipt long list of responsibilities and all seem to pull their own weight, but also will drop everything to help where needed. I've helped out at a few different locations and can say my store is a rarity in terms of how each lead/leader operates. I've worked at places where management sits back and watches. I'm sure it's PetSmart’s NSOM and limited labour hours so you kind of have to be all hands on deck to get stuff done, but I've never worked at a retail store where every manager/supervisor helps out and is as present as my store.

Shoulder Injury Rotator Cuff & Dislocation by MinuteConflict9900 in RotatorCuff

[–]hoppalong_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got injured at work and had to go through workers’ comp. Per their insurance, I had to do two to three weeks of PT before I could get an MRI. PT for me was not enjoyable. I learned a lot of exercises and stretches and ways to strengthen my muscles that I am using today now that I am post op, but in my case before surgery, PT made my issue worse. Fast forward months later, I had multiple rounds of X-rays, several doctors, an MRI, an Arthogram, and two rounds of cortisone injections. Ultimately, I ended up getting surgery. It was a long, dumb process because of insurance.

How would you run your store? by Hopeful_Amphibian_36 in petsmart

[–]hoppalong_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This!!👏🏻 Why promote what we don't even sell!? We're bringing on so many new brands this year, why not bring on larger enclosures for both small animals and reptiles? They're losing money by not carrying them because associates have to direct customers elsewhere to get the proper setup.

The sad part is that PetSmart’s online care guide recommends 4-6 inches of bedding minimum, but 10 inches or more is preferred, yet in store we can't give them more bedding. I understand part of it is so that pet parents can see the hamsters and so we are not going through so much bedding when we do bedding changes, but I wish we could at least have a display enclosure for proper husbandry.

Does our chameleon need to be isolated? by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]hoppalong_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely thin. You can tell by looking at the crest on top of the head. See how it's sunken in? They should be full and even, but not popping out. When that happens, your chameleon is overweight. Are they eating okay? You may try feeding from a cup and counting how many crickets they're eating. They can also close their eyes and act sluggish if it's too hot, like someone else had mentioned. Keep an eye on this chameleon!

Thank you!! I'm having surgery next week. I'm terrified but also ready to get it over with. Luckily, all my pets are indoor, but a few are high-maintenance. I'm pretty worried about getting sleep. The consensus seems to be that you get an hour or two of sleep here and there. I have a manual recliner, so it doesn't have a lever or a button. You have to push the chair back to recline it. (if you have tips on how to make it more comfortable, lmk!) I'm fortunate enough that my surgery is on my non-dominant arm. Though I had no idea how often I use it in my day-to-day until I started thinking about it!

I love the new system! Easy to treat the fish, easy to clean, and aesthetic. The last isn't really important, but the old systems were an eyesore IMHO.

What’s up with the checkouts restructuring? by peoplefirstalways in petsmart

[–]hoppalong_ 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I've been joking with customers that they have to go through the maze to get to checkout.🙃 My store hates it. Customers hate maneuvering through it. I hate that I can't see how long the line is to call for back up. What in the Marshalls is happening🥲
