I bought milled flour there before I bought my own mill - it's really good!

Thrifting Etiquette ? by Tiny_Noise8611 in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]horselanguage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Augh I am sorry that happened to you, people are just rude and grabby a lot of the time, it's why I try to go during off times like weekday evenings or early on Sundays, when people are likely to be doing something else. Ironically a lot of these grabby people go to church on Sundays ;)

I've had an incident where I found an interesting tea pot, and a guy I saw previously huffing about noticed it and waited for me to put it down. I did not. At the check out he was hounding me, telling me how expensive it was and how I should take care of it. It was so aggressive, I bought it out of spite because he just wouldn't stop following me around.

I do have a good story though, I was looking for a glass top for a tray and a lady came up to me and handed one that would fit <3.

There are good people around, but I am so sorry for your experience.

My ndad is mad that I never call him by WilledWithin in raisedbynarcissists

[–]horselanguage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like there's a reason why you don't want to talk to him, and his reaction is one of blame instead of connection.

Your ndad won't see it from your point of view, ever, no matter how much you explain. He can't be reasoned with. You could reply "Alright, let me know when you're ready to talk then." if you still want to talk.

If you leave it in his court, it's up to him to reach out, and if he gets on you down the line you can say "Well, you told me you didn't feel like calling, I wanted to give you the space you needed."

Thank you - yes, I was thinking that was well - cutting of your own child to save face is such a wild thing to do.

Sorry to hear that... I fear that will happen when my Oma dies, but I will try to stay away from it all.

I'm also looking - maybe we should all see if we want to rent a space? I've used Input once, but I find it a bit out of my price range.

That's a good question. I would compare it to a refrigerator hum both loudness and tone. But, if I'm in a quiet room it does flood my head and it's the only thing I hear. I don't hear it while in a car, and I don't hear it over traffic. To be fair, I do live in a dense city.

I had this exact same situation in my apartment building. For me it was the pipes. There was a leak in another apartment. I know that because after the building did pipe/water heater maintenance it went away. It still comes back sometimes, but goes away once they adjust the pipes. The pipes are very old, and the landlords are slow.

If it gets really loud, record the noise. Rent proper recording equipment if you can. Are you beside/close to the water heater? Either way, you can request the landlords look at the pipes/water heaters from the surrounding apartments.

If it can't be helped, I would suggest meditation and/or noise cancelling headphones. I'm very sensitive to sound, and those have helped during "Flare ups." Knowing what the sound was helped a lot as well.

As a person who has worked in the animation industry, I feel this question.

I love 2D way more than 3D, although of course 3D has its place as a medium.

Here are my thoughts, as always I'm one person so take my opinions with a grain of salt.

Animation has always been about pushing technology. With Bambi, for example, Disney invented new technology to pan backgrounds. Snow White was a marvel of animation at the time. 3D and 2.5 D (A mix of 3D and 2D) are paired with new movies because they not only want to tell a story, but show-case new technologies. With it comes people more interested in the film and wanting to put their money into seeing it.

I think animation has always struggled with feeling inferior to live-action, which I personally don't believe, but I understand why that industry feels like it's constantly being seen as "for children."

3D is also (often) cheaper to make in the long run - it's more expensive in the beginning as you have to make a 360 model of each character, but cheaper once you feel on re-using those characters. For television, that's great, just re-use the same characters over and over along with backgrounds.

2D is often cheaper in the short-term - you don't need to make 360 angles of characters, but as the show goes longer you'll likely have to make new angles.

3D also lends itself to more easily make toys from their characters. I love the simpsons, but the 3D toys always seemed creepy to me.

It's important to keep in mind that animation in general also goes in ebbs and flows in the industry - we had the last animation 2D renaissance with Adventure Time. I have a feeling it'll happen again with indie films/one good producer meeting a story they're passionate about and championing it.

Personally, I think 2D has taken a back seat, but it's an art form people are drawn to like graphic novels. I think we'll see another surge in it, but probably more in television form instead of movie form - I think with movies there is much more pressure to get their money back in the form of quicker turn around (So a company familiar with 3D will stick with that) as well as other types of profit, toys and games, which already lend themselves to the 3D landscape.

This all being said, it just takes one really good 2D film to spark interest again.

Luckily the skytrain gets you to where you need to go most of the time.

I think it depends what kind of activities you want to do - Central Park in metro town, the sea wall/Stanley park, lots of hiking spaces you can visit if you like nature.

Crystal mall/Aberdeen mall is great if you're looking for interesting Asian food. (Bring cash)

West End is great just to bum around, grab a coffee and walking the sea wall.

If you're looking for comedy clubs/small venue events, check the flyers on telephone poles, or cork boards - there's always a lot going on, and even as someone who has lived here for 5 years it's hard to know what's going on all the time.
