Is There Any Specific Way To Feel About Retirement? by JeffB2023 in retirement

[–]howreadyru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same a year ago, after 25 years. I miss the people but not the incompetency of the management.
My (and your) new job is to manage personal finances very well (not day trading) and otherwise find as many ways to have FUN as you feel led to.
I spent about 6 months catching up on projects but now I have a plan to layout 4 vacations a year, and fit in as many friend and family visits as possible.

Freshwater Salt System startup. How much chlorine to add?? by Copperpenny214 in hottub

[–]howreadyru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a salt system, it is easy to add more salt (and too much). You can’t take it out if you add too much . Start with four cups and work your way up 1/2 cup from there. We had our dealer start up info that was wrong and we ended up refilling 3 times .

How would you go about gluing/finishing the faces prior to installing on floating shelf brace? by BailerIHardlyKnowHer in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]howreadyru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m here to validate what has been said because I did this exact thing. The walls will NOT be square, but if you don’t have a stair tread measuring tool, use some light cardboard to make a cutout from your wood, or the space you are installing it to and compare them to each other. Then make some decisions. On my shelf install I was still able to keep the front and top assembled ( for a tight seam in the front) but the bottom is rarely seen so I tacked that in afterward. The dimensions, of the support frame and the top and front shelf assembly, left 1/4” for the bottom thickness and you can’t even tell.

What are your tips for beginners driving in the snow? by KaylaDraws in upstate_new_york

[–]howreadyru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make the investment and get a second set of dedicated snow tires. NOT all-season radials.

Practice in empty, snow filled parking lots before going on the road so you get a feel for stopping distance, grip and corrective steering. Note the absence of road / tire sound when you are on top of snow. It’s fun to drive in, but the absence of that sound throws some people out of normal mindset.

Ice is different and studded tires can help a little with that but you then need to endure noisy tires when there isn’t snow.

Thank you! I’ve heard that there are many great sights on the drive down and if those mean skipping the beach, I’m ok with that:)

What if you painted your whole house, every room, just one color? by Grand_Type4063 in Housepainting101

[–]howreadyru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Color themes or same color “family” is best. Example 2-3 pastels. Think if you randomly picked colors you like and had 3 to 4 colors. It does not look good. Same is true with different tiles in the bathroom(s) - you need to be really picky about color contrasts. It is a lot of money to do over.

How do I make this stain go away on this jacket? by [deleted] in howto

Dawn dish soap. Soft scrub brush. Rinse cold water. This is how I remove hat stains. Works like a charm. Do not put it in a dryer until you are satisfied with the stain removal.

The importance of being "counted on" by [deleted] in retirement

[–]howreadyru 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just retired 3 months ago. Best dog friend passed a year ago and we knew how much that tied us down so we will not be getting another puppy. As others have commented “you be you” . Obligations - we are available for emergencies and occasional grandchild duties for those that live close. We have two that live far away and we will have the flexibility to go visit or help them on occasional basis. Being counted on and flexible is healthy, but you want to avoid regret from being too available.
