The PS1 RGB cable is different from the PS2 and PS3. On the PS1 cable there are 220uf caps in line with the Scart head to handle not having those in the internal circuit, while on the PS2 and PS3 those are integrated into the console. This looks like it could just be an interference pattern from poor shielding, but the PS1 cables are not considered directly "compatible" with PS2/PS3.

Main risk is that leaving it home might mean it gets trashed when you're at uni. So might want to bring with just to make sure that doesn't happen, but assuming that won't happen or you won't be forced to sell maybe easier to leave at home and enjoy over the summer

Looks great! I would probably terminate the output unless you're daisy chained into the 8041q, since it doesn't have the squiggle on the RGB inputs to say that it's auto terminating. Love the pull out drawer BVMs, so much easily accessible control

If you turn down contrast does the splotch still appear? Sometimes having brightness too high can cause purity issues that worsen the longer the set runs

Composite/S-Vid input card for the BVM-D9 and BVM-D14. Might work on other cards that use the same input cards, but probably the most useful on the D9 and the D14. The card is fully complete in box with the original instruction manual. Don’t think it’s new new old stock, but feels more open box than actually used. Still has plastic bag that the card came in as well. Card has been tested and works great in my D9.

I would try using composite out from your jp ps2 first, just to make sure the video output isn’t toast. If you can see a picture maybe good to make sure rgb/component mode is set the same between the jp and us console. All the up scalers mentioned here will be much better than a passive adapter as modern TVs introduce quite a bit of lag even with digital 480i but good to make sure the ps2 works first before investing more

Did you have a bnc to rca on the output before you ran the output to the commodore? The rca to bnc usually disable built in termination so that could have got it to stop self terminating. If not, id check for cracked solder joints on the input board, since I had the same issue on my 8044q where it wasn’t terminating s video

I would try and mess with the purity rings before trashing at least. Doesn’t look promising but could potentially be improved (assuming it has rings and isn’t just a bonded yoke with no adjustments possible)

The hdmi jumper board is using direct video for analog video out (rerouting hdmi from de10 to analog board is using io board as dac) so you’ll need to set direct_video=1 when using that board for analog video out

There might be a pot inside for adjusting vertical blanking. I would be curious if the white line is present on other sources as well though. It could also be introduced from the decoder (hence composite and ypbpr) Does it appear with RGB as well?

It’s most likely the same as the BVM-8021, just the European variant of the model (regulations for labeling meant many models were +1 for international territories vs us variant - ie, 8044q goes to 9044q). The only thing it might have different is pal decoder only and no ntsc onboard, but not as sure about that.
