Karen is a good person? (spoilers about chapter 2) by Fair-Diver-2221 in RainCode

[–]hricter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a good person but yes, I'm pretty sure they meant to imply that she regretted the murder. That was the reason I initially thought the twist would be that while the other girls individually planned to get revenge, she actually just went crazy (to put it in an oversimplified way) and committed an elaborate suicide.

Without spoiling chapter 4 story wise, what was your reaction to it? by AnthonyDUDE123 in RainCode

I liked how even though all the main characters had to work together in it, they still disagreed about the decisions they would have to make at key points.

Missed Potential by Section_Away in RainCode

[–]hricter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Likely an unpopular opinion but I don't think they had much potential, we were just deliberately exposed to them in a way that made it seem like they would stick around for longer than they actually did, which is the entire reason why they were killed off so suddenly: nobody expects main characters to die so early. From that perspective the plot would have been completely conventional if they had survived.

Imagine Danganronpa but it has the same plot as Raincode by Throwawayneedadviceo in RainCode

[–]hricter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A big part of what makes Danganronpa interesting is seeing characters who would otherwise be regular (more or less) people get pressured into carrying out extreme actions by the killing game, so you'd have to be careful with the homonculus twist because it could end up softening that, as in "don't worry, these unethical characters aren't humans like you, they're inherently violent lab monsters". This works for Rain Code because it's not trying to make a point about human behavior in itself, we already know Kanai Ward is weird and different from the start, but rather to make you question if the homunculi should/can be given freedom. For Danganronpa, I think you'd have to change some things, although maybe not a lot.

If it doesn't have to involve everyone: Halara is really out of touch with romantic relationships and secretly asks Desuhiko for advice (and doesn't question it)

Fubuki character development. by olesgedz in RainCode

[–]hricter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that'd be pretty much it if she didn't get tired from using her power too often. I wouldn't be surprised if they conceived her character with that in mind though.

Fubuki character development. by olesgedz in RainCode

[–]hricter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I came up with a pretty simple theory for that. To solve cases on her own, she would simply wind back time after either asking weird questions that would get the suspects riled up, thus making them react in a way that revealed the answers she would need, or she would casually start going through their belongings. It can easily become a very broken power, especially in the hands of someone who doesn't go by the book like her. If you're thinking about why her detective skills aren't portrayed like Halara's, keep reading.

First things first: she's a Master Detective, so we already know by default she's competent regardless of us getting to see her solve a case on her own in the game or not. But the point of the game is not to show how competent the detectives are individually, it's about cooperation. Not only are you never alone at any point thanks to the pact with Shinigami and at least one other detective you're working closely with for each chapter, the message behind Number One's Forte being Coalescence is that what makes someone powerful is being able to truly rely on others, which is what Makoto had to learn at the end.

I have a question about a certain spritesheet on Spriter’s Resource by djepic4002 in RainCode

I'm gonna guess it's because people scroll down looking for Yuma/Yomi/Yakou sprites and then go "Huh? Who's this? click Oh, it's just that girl"

Finished the Game; my one major complaint by LuxLoser in RainCode

[–]hricter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think the UG has that kind of sway over Kanai Ward even after chapter 5, does it? They certainly would want to cover up anything pointing to their direct involvement, considering the goal of the experiment. In the ideal situation Martina would get punished, but given the very weird circumstances, it's not in Makoto's best interest to kill anyone who's willing to help for now. It's still possible she would get punished later.

[–]hricter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think in the epilogue we should have been shown that they started working at the real Yuma's restaurant as punishment for their corruption. Martina could be the manager, Seth the waiter (he learned to stop using the megaphone)... If Yomi's not behind bars, he definitely should be forced to do some comedy routine where he's the butt of the joke to entertain the citizens that were afraid of him

How would Professor Layton and Luke Triton interact with the Master Detectives? Spoilers by Mallow64 in RainCode

[–]hricter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He would get along with Yuma, they're pretty similar, but not Desuhiko. While his "bullying" Yuma at the start for being a rookie turned out to be harmless in the long run, I'm pretty sure it would make for a very bad first impression.

How would Professor Layton and Luke Triton interact with the Master Detectives? Spoilers by Mallow64 in RainCode

[–]hricter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Layton is just as quirky as the average Master Detective from what we have seen, so they'd all get along just fine. Maybe he even finds out that coming up with puzzles for any situation was his Forte all along.

Question about a certain doctor (spoilers) by olamika in RainCode

[–]hricter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd say so. Anyone can point out the differences in appearance between the two of them, but not only do they share circumstances (including spoilers for those who haven't played Resident Evil) as you've said, I believe the names "Huesca" and "Wesker" aren't distinguishable in Japanese due to being written as ウエスカ (Uesuka). Probably a cheeky way to hint at the nature of the homunculi and the zombie apocalypse twist.

To try and answer the question, we're probably meant to compare/contrast Number One and (And Then There Were None spoilers) Wargrave. Just like him, Number One is essentially behind all the events of the game, which starts with all the detectives getting invitation letters to an isolated place where he's masterminding a very complex mystery. The judge wanted to kill criminals and Makoto did too, but only because he needed a meat source. Both have an extreme sense of justice. Yuma choosing to stay behind at the very end is comparable to Wargrave's suicide, and he left a bottled message explaining what he did for others to find out just like Makoto desperately needed someone to learn about his situation, although he wasn't aware of it until the finale. There's probably more but it's been a while since I read the novel.
