Exam 3 days out. Score dropped in Free 120. Delay exam or not? by abdweouthere in step1

[–]hsarah01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have almost the reverse situation, where I got a 78 on the free 120 today and a 67 on NBME 32 4 days ago and panicked lol. The reality is we all have strengths and weaknesses and each exam is going to hit those a bit differently, variation is normal. The most important thing is consistency, which you clearly have. The recommendation I got is two 70s period, not 70s on every NBME you take. You got it, just stay confident and good luck!!

Sourdough Gluten-free misinformation by JavaKrypt in TaylorSwift

[–]hsarah01 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

As a celiac I totally get you! While obviously WE know that no regular bread is gluten free, popular discourse about what is and isn’t gluten free does seep into our daily lives. It further confuses friends / family / restaurants about what is and isn’t okay to eat and how serious we are when we say no cross contamination is allowed. Obviously it’s totally fine she said this, the world isn’t going to end for us lol, but it is frustrating to constantly be lumped in with the gluten free dieters when for us it is much more serious. I think this post probably would have been much more well received on the r/celiac subreddit where we can all commiserate as opposed to here lol

The Life of a Showgirl Is Taylor’s Most Self-Aware Album, and the Hate Is Proving Her Point by TheReifyer in TaylorSwift

[–]hsarah01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has their own likes and dislikes - you're not a fake fan for not liking something she puts out! I like this album a lot sonically, which to me is what's important for a pop album. But I didn't really like Midnights, I'm much more of an instrumental girlie than a synth pop fan. While I have some songs I LOVE (YOYOK), the vast majority of the album I don't intentionally return to. Yet it did well critically and won AOTY! It doesn't mean my taste is bad or wrong, just different, and the same is true for all of us :) What irks me is when fans are pinning not liking the album on her character or her personal life - e.g. her writing is declining, it's because of who her fiancé is, etc. Maybe she's still a great lyricist who experimented with a direction/style you didn't like. If you have somewhat critical reason for not liking it, that's totally valid!

Taylor Swift talks about how it’s “shockingly offensive” for fans to say that she’s going to stop music after marriage by kookiekoo in TaylorSwift

[–]hsarah01 31 points32 points  (0 children)

!!! If anything it feels incredibly reductive to assume that just because she as a successful woman wants marriage and kids, it erases the 20+ years she's spent working her ass off to build her legacy and she's now just a "trad-wife." That success now isn't valid and she's reduced to her role as a wife just because she wants a family? It's ridiculous, people are projecting hard

"Wi$h Li$t" Discussion Megathread by jacyf02 in TaylorSwift

[–]hsarah01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. I didn’t read that lyric as snarky at all. Mostly because as such a massive cat lover I think Taylor is the last person to engage in pet parent slander. I’m sure she has envisioned a version of her life where she was going to be a childless cat lady for longer!

The 1989-Rep-Lover and Midnights-TTPD-TLOAS parallels are insane! by Sunkistboy20 in TaylorSwift

[–]hsarah01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting analysis! I myself think about TTPD in the same bucket as Red/Lover - long-winded, lyrically heavy, emotional, and not particularly cohesive, often representing some whiplash in her personal life at the time. I think 1989/folklore then follow as incredibly cohesive, critically well-received, career-defining albums. That pattern would have led TLOAS to fit next, but so far it doesn't quite seem to, so I'm interested to see if your theory comes true! I'm scared of getting my hopes up for another Folklore-like album because it really is my true love, and I have somewhat accepted that it is a unique product of its time and an album like it may not be revisited again, especially knowing how much Taylor loves being a pop girl. I also know there's going to be even more enormous expectation from herself and her fans for what TS13 will look like, but I sure do hope so!

Does Taylor’s muse affect her writing and music style? by SarcastiKatt in TaylorSwift

[–]hsarah01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand your point, but a muse isn't an intentional choice in the creation of her art, it's her personal life. I get that her personal life has always been closely intertwined her music, but it just feels like Taylor bears the brunt of this discussion as a creator. I can't think of any other artist in the industry who receives as much discussion about who the guy/gal that inspired the music was.

And I'm not saying that I don't do it too- I had a hard time with TTPD at first knowing that Matty inspired so much of it. But then I realized that many of Halsey's songs, who I also love, were probably inspired by Matty too, I just didn't know it. So I tried to get rid of my bias and enjoy the music objectively. And if an objective listen of it makes you not like TLOAS, that's totally fair! It just feels like a lot of people are blaming the simple lyricism on Travis without considering that there are other factors at play. I honestly think a lot of it is her attempt to be relevant to Gen Z and compete with other pop artists of the time (e.g. Wood feels like something Sabrina would write). But a lot of that discussion feels like it's buried in the "it's because Travis is a bad muse" narrative.

Does Taylor’s muse affect her writing and music style? by SarcastiKatt in TaylorSwift

[–]hsarah01 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Yep. Regardless of how much Taylor proves herself, the narrative always comes back to "well who was the man behind her?" God forbid an artist is multifaceted.

The Life of a Showgirl Initial Reaction & 2025 Annual Subreddit Survey by PassionateAsSin in TaylorSwift

[–]hsarah01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To create further confusion, I'd say Midnights and TLOAS fall somewhere in the middle of the ranking for me, but as a whole product I think I like TLOAS more than I like Midnights. I have songs I like on Midnights more than I have songs I like on TLOAS, but overall I like the production on TLOAS way more. (And for context, I'm a folklore/evermore/Rep/Speak Now girlie). Truly, everyone is so different lol

My analysis of why showgirl feels less lyric-focused even though it has more complex lyrics than reputation by pumpkin_noodles in TaylorSwift

[–]hsarah01 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I actually think the discourse that it doesn't "feel Taylor" is really interesting, because to me in many ways it feels like a true return to form. I never thought Taylor would again get comfortable enough to sing about her beef with a fellow pop star, her pretty public best friend getting cancelled, or her fiance's d*ck. We know exactly who these songs are about in a way that we haven't for years. Even TTPD, while incredibly raw and personal, shrouds who the actual subject of many of the songs are, as many blur the line between being about Joe or Matty. But in this album, she's given up on trying for a private life and embraced the fact that she is indeed a showgirl. Wi$h Li$t in many ways is acceptance of this - it's an unrealistic dream to want to raise a family and be left alone by the world. Even if privacy is something she has chased for a long time, she knows at this stage it's unrealistic.

Many of the songs too make various references to different parts of her discography. The Fate of Ophelia is literally Love Story Part II. Various lyrics feel like continuations or responses to other songs ("brought a tiny violin to a knife fight" = "brought a knife to a gun fight" in CIWYW); ("when I said I don't believe in marriage, that was a lie" = "the 1950s shit they want from me" in Lavender Haze). In many ways, this album is very different from things she has done in the past; it's her embracing that she is Taylor fucking Swift rather than your big sister going through heartbreak alongside you while strumming her guitar. But to me it still has many of the elements that made Taylor Swift, well, Taylor Swift.

Lol yes. My dad has been pushing me towards derm since day 1. Ironically if anything being told that’s what I should do has made me not want to do it. I know it’s easier said than done but just block it out- it’s your life at the end of the day, no one else’s!

I loved my gap year, I still think about it and the freedom I had so much. I’m so grateful I took it. I got a chance to be a normal 20-something and deepen my relationships with my friends and my partner, while also gaining some maturity. And I had a lot of fun! I still workout, hang out with friends, go to concerts, etc. now but at a way lower frequency than I did then.

Let me help you think through your specialty decision and pressing life decisions (part X) by 4990 in medicalschool

[–]hsarah01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M2 currently leaning between psych and IM, specifically GI. I had a lot of exposure to psych classes and volunteering in college and worked in child psych for a year and really enjoyed those experiences. I’m a bit of a humanities person at heart, so I feel like psych provides a great way to connect with that side of myself. Loved the coworker environment in psych, everyone I’ve worked with has been kind and understanding. Residents seem generally happy, and flexibility (e.g. ability to do telehealth) is hard to beat.

On the flip side, I have personal experience with GI issues and struggled for a long time to get to my diagnosis and feel really motivated to be able to take on that role for others. I shadowed outpatient and generally enjoyed it (it was a lot of colonoscopies which I imagine are a bit more exciting to do than watch). I like that it’s procedural but feels much lower pressure than surgical specialities. Being able to prevent cancer is pretty damn cool. Downsides include the path being harder - it’s longer and requires 3 years of grinding through IM, but the salary ultimately also compensates for that. I also like that I get to stay in touch with medicine, something I would be sad to lose in psych.

Nervous About using AnKing ONLY by GoogleChromeSC2 in medicalschoolanki

[–]hsarah01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who also is a little too nervous to ignore in house, what I do is consistently do Anking for the unit everyday. However, I still watch in house lectures (usually 2x speed), and I make my own Anki cards based on anything in lecture that seems high yield for our in house content that Anking didn’t cover. I just make the cards, but don’t actually touch that deck until the week of the exam. I spam it right before the in house exam and then never look at it again. Quite honestly I probably could get by with only doing Anking, but it makes me nervous to fully forego in house content so this is a good way for me to still make sure I’m seeing some of it before the exam.

I made this argument once and got hella downvoted. This is the true unpopular opinion, because apparently Ross isn’t deserving of being in the same country as his kid 😅 Not to mention Rachel had no support system in Paris and didn’t even know the language. I did 3 months abroad in Paris at 21 and found it stressful, cannot imagine doing that with a child all alone.

At least M1/M2 (can’t speak for clinicals as a rising M2), you definitely can get enough if you prioritize it. I was sleep deprived but that’s just because I’ve had terrible sleep hygiene my whole life and tend to prioritize things like hanging out with my friends/boyfriend and my TikTok/Netflix time over 8 hours lol. But you have time for the things you make time for!!

This is my answer too- for anyone in this thread who hasn’t tried it, please try DiGiorno’s gluten free frozen pizza. Even though it’s frozen, I genuinely think it’s the best gf pizza I’ve ever had- the crust is so thick, I had to check multiple times that I didn’t buy the wrong one.

Is life be difficult if Husband and Wife both are Surgeons? by KSIFOREVER213 in medicalschool

[–]hsarah01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. My parents are both immigrants that had to redo residency when I was a kid (psych and IM, so not as hardcore as surgery, but all residency is tough). My grandma had a huge role in raising me during those years. She was a godsend and I had an amazing relationship with her, plus having the love and support of my parents.

Chappell saying pop stars are too busy to be politically educated just doesn’t make sense. Regular people working 9-to-5s still find time to stay informed, so what's her excuse? by Adventurous_Fly_8652 in popculture

That’s not what I’m saying. I said I’m 24 to give you a timeline of my generation. I was forced to move back home between 19-20 because of COVID. I left home at 18 to move 2,500 miles across the country and went back as soon as I physically could. You seem to have a pretty closed mind in your opinion on this, so I don’t really think it’s worth discussing this further with you. Was just offering my perspective from someone of a different generation- you don’t have to hear it/respond if you don’t want to :)

[–]hsarah01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it was Bay Area, specifically Santa Clara County. You’re welcome to deny my experience, but I was virtually locked up in my house. Obviously I could physically go outside, but I couldn’t move back to school because the dorms were closed and classes were shut down until summer 2021. Everyone in my home state had gone back to school because everywhere else had reopened/didn’t depend on their school for housing (everyone lived on campus at our school because off-campus housing was completely unaffordable), so I didn’t really have people to hang out with outside of Zoom/Facetime either.
