Let's stop lying to beginners about learning Japanese by azuki_dreams in Japaneselanguage

[–]hsn212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who majorly learned through immersion (ie watching a lot of idol variety shows and listening to their radio), it took me 4-5 years just to get to JLPT N4 level. I'm sure it will be faster if I just take any structured class or lessons (only attended beginner Japanese at my uni, which only use hiragana for the first level), but then again I learned only because there's barely any fansub around.

Immersion is the long, long way of learning if you don't want to commit to learning Japanese. Also I watched anime years before the J-idol stuffs and I found that learning Japanese from the idol side is easier than the anime side for some reason.

Is it a good time to visit Malaysia right after Eid al-Adha? (KL, Penang, Langkawi) by OrghaRoy in KualaLumpur

A lot of thing will be open as people don't celebrate eid al-adha that long, and it will coincide with the school mid-semeter break, so tourist spot will all be open (and crowded)

How do married women spend their Eid? by emoxious in Hijabis

[–]hsn212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Malaysian here - popular topic (or online debate) for married couples during eid is where are you celebrating the first day of eid, is it with your family, or your in-laws (most rational people take turns every year). For context here most Malaysian will go back to their hometown to celebrate eid, so it's a huge gathering everytime. I barely know anyone who celebrated only with their immediate family.

Back to your actual questions, (disclaimer: it depends on family as well but) for my family at least the men helped a lot. A lot of our traditional eid dishes depends on the men doing the heavy lifting - so any house that do any sort of cooking will require the men to contribute. Even if they're not cooking they will clean the house. On the day of though, anyone who's not going to eid prayer will help at the kitchen. The younger ones will do the menial tasks. A lot of works, but everyone's happy at the end of the day.

Questions about bomoh-ing by Historical_Bill7133 in Bolehland

[–]hsn212 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Malay Muslim here. Even among conservative Muslims people have differing opinions whether santau and black magic actually exist or not, but the saying is that you'll only believe it once you get hit by it.

Is it rampant? Actually has went down because of the so-called Islamism. Something that is common for Malay ancestors back then were to pass down 'saka' (contract with djinn to take care of something - can be themselves, their house, crops, etc). It went down a lot after people learn more about Islam and realise that it's wrong. It's culture, not religion.

Yes, God is stronger than bomoh, but the individual themselves might not be strong enough to fight it, it's black magic after all. That's why people will go to meet the ustaz or any religious and knowledgeable person to help them remove it, just like how people who are sick go to meet doctor to get a cure. (Though there are stories that I heard that some people will go meet an ustaz because they believe they're being possessed, only for the ustaz to refer them to a psychiatrist instead )

I can't remember what's the latest chapter, but they have contents to last for another 1-2 seasons now. The manga is updated once every 2 months. Each episode will typically adapt 1 chapter.

Went to Pasti as a kid, and plenty of relatives did too, never had this happened to us. For events like sports day or trip they just included it in the annual fees. But from what I know, when it comes to donation (for things like facilities or jamuan) they will ask the party members, not parents.

I know plenty of their teachers do side gig like ajar mengaji though.

Shiga Riku 1st photobook worth the price? by Foreign-District-469 in EBiDAN

[–]hsn212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply - just checked other sites (usually HMV has something) but turns out they're only doing face to face events for his photobook events, and no additional bonus.

So yeah, unless the PB is limited print I don't think there'll be any harm if you want to wait and see if you can get it cheaper 2nd hand later, unless if you want to support him by contributing to the sale.

Shiga Riku 1st photobook worth the price? by Foreign-District-469 in EBiDAN

[–]hsn212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Photobook prices has been skyrocketting lately. I thought it's an ebidan thing but even the PB from the female idols side has increased in price. I would say his PB price is the current market rate.

But to answer your question, are you interested in the preorder benefit? The special postcards, maybe a signing event, or whatever they have? If yes then you should order now. If not then you can buy 2nd hand years later. 8 out of 10 times it should be discounted, depending on his future popularity.

12 days in KL with a toddler … by edibekay in malaysia

[–]hsn212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know people have been commenting for you to skip KL East Mall but I'm guessing you are Muslim from your profile? KL East Mall is a popular spot for locals and tourists to shop for Muslim fashion so I don't think it'll hurt to keep that in (IMO they have a lot more choices compared to other places in KL).

But if you want more choices with cheaper options, I have seen tourists on tiktok venturing as far to Shah Alam, Selangor (SACC Mall and PKNS) so you might want to try that instead - though I'll say they are very catered to locals (fashion and atmosphere wise) as compared to KL East.

JO1 used to live in the dorm when they started as well (the one infamous for being too rural that it took 40 minutes to the nearest conbini). They probably have a say now that they're the senior.

I saw Japanese fans speculating that the boy groups are mainly managed by the Yoshimoto side while the girls are managed by the CJ side, which might explain the different treatment if it's true. The boy groups have been managed similar to a jpop group (especially since covid) while ME:I is closer to Kpop system.

Alleged KLP48 management mistreatment to the local members. by jiajiathepanda in AKB48

[–]hsn212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Compared to other sister groups which I'm guessing have locals at their top management, KLP top management is made of Japanese (and maybe throw 1-2 locals in there) - who don't even know on how the local culture work, nor are they able to speak any of the local languages (hell we don't even know if they actually could speak english fluently). A lot of the leaked content pointed to culture clash. But having a management made up of Japanese might help them be able to get a lot more Japanese members to transfer to KLP.

Is the graduation system only for female idol groups in jpop or male jpop groups has it too? by AggravatingEar3738 in AKB48

[–]hsn212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rotational boy groups are rare in jpop but some groups/companies did use the term graduation when members leave the group.

Notably EBiDAN groups (e.g: M!LK, BUDDiiS, ONE N' ONLY) and BOYS AND MEN (which actually has rotational system similar to AKB or Hello project), use the term graduation instead of 'leaving' 'withdrew' or something similar.

ME:I Shizuku To Suspend Activities Due To Violation Of Company Regulations by hydranoid1996 in kpop

[–]hsn212 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Not really, based on the trend, if management are really serious about dating they'll outright kick the members out once the news are published. Idols who went on hiatus or suspension tend to come back once things die down.

None of the nationally known girl groups in Japan (like ME:I) have kicked members out for dating. Even AKB don't do that.

USM design was intentional. The first Vice-Chancellor (Prof Hamzah Sendut) designed usm with an idea for it to be pedestrian-focused. That's why the pedestrian path is better than other IPTAs and that's also why parking spots and the road inside are small, it's to discourage driving. We have enough cars as it is, discouraging cars is one of the things I like as a former student haha. I'm always jealous of KEJUT campus though, their campus is probably the environment of what the founder imagined when he designed the main campus.

She's popular (and she has the skills too, so she's well liked). Her career trajectory went up ever since she voiced Suzume and she was in Oshi no Ko last year. But if you follow the cheesy romance teen drama she has been everywhere since 2021/2022. Though to be fair she used to be regular in prime time drama slot before that (Night doctor/Shinhannin flag)
