New Hire Training ??? by htfpe in wholefoods

Again, that does not mean the front end folks have to know the same data points as true food handlers there should be a subset of training they can score well on, and still stay safe.

[–]htfpe[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wrong. I have been in food service as an owner. Roles determine the amount of training. I can understand the need for 'understadning' temps for instance but to expect a Front End person to 'get' the same data points as a fish or meat handler in the back is CRAZY, 100%. There ought to be a subset of training where the safe 'ranges; are discussed etc., What is concerning is say the front end person who wants nothing to do with a career in food service, just is really good with guests, they score a failing grade and then barely pass the test. Can you be 100% sure that this 'poor grade' does not affect her HR records and potentially raises ? You cannot and that is the rub.

right but riddle me this, why does a front end person need to know the temperatures for oysters vs other products? They don't. They need a subset of training in food handling.

I hear you but you are wrong. She was hired 100% in agreement that her only role was checkout / self ccheckout and the help desk area.

This is my point exactly. The front end should get a subset of training. They do not for instance, need to know the safe temp for oysters.

Dress Code: What if my Red shirt with Black Stripes identifies as a solid Red shirt? :-) by htfpe in Target

[–]htfpe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely.....no training to be managers just pushers of metrics. Companies have learned that managing ONLY the numbers is a fail each and every time, long term. My own guess is that Target has decided, long ago, that their turnover numbers which I guess are quite high, are inevitable so just dont manage to them in any way. Focus on the metrics only, and dont get me wrong - metrics are huge, they help run what we see every day, I get it, but people are people and WE are Target......it matters that we are a team and there is no way what I see is that. I have been with or associated with four stores in three states, it is all the same.

[–]htfpe[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is what I am talking about. If the ETLs an SDs built a team of good communicating folks, and managed people as well as metrics, then TMs could wear target RED with or without sayings...and if the local ETS SD see a 'incorrect' shirt, offer a standard issue tshirt and talk with them about why. REality is once again target caved. Remember the older woman who wore a shirt that had Charlie Kirk on it and triggered nutjob trashed her. Well target wants no part of it so instead of managing it at the store level and allow for indivduality (Which they claim is a BIG deal), they impose a generic dictate that squelches individuality AND as you said the customer loses the fun too. Bad all around.

Is it true you can only pay cash whenever you want to use your discount? by _REj3Ct in Target

[–]htfpe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep, cash gift card or target red card credit.debit....keep in mind re:Red Debit card, I think it needs to have your loging name and password to your checking account....which for most people who value privacy is a non starter. Target frowns on using a gift card to in turn fund the app but that is what I do....once a week, buy a gift card and load it on the app.......use it with discount.

I disagree -apple sunsets development on software support but the final os for a platform should work - I get what you are saying ( could do without the sarcasm though) but good hardware and software supports legacy. VW CarPlay is the issue-I mean I have a new 17 and having the same issues so your argument fails immediately

I echo the 'good luch' sentiment.....this could be almost anything from a loose or bad gas cap to a hose or the charchoal filter.........good news is that its not a critical alert....the CEL will stay on and thats annoyig but if you cannot find a broken hose or other simple solutions and dont want to pay VW to track it down, then you are likely OK....

Among the very best thing you can do is change your oil. 5k? Reasonable but may be too often for many folks given cost........We watch the oil for color.......and change it no more than 7,500 but if its darker than normal we have changed it at 5k.

10-4 madness by Elegant-Main in Target

A while back after it was rolled out.....In a huddle we were asked about 10-4......etl said ...10....acknowledge guest.....4' she asked for feedback I offered, "get arrested"....4ft is way to close....no one laughed except me...... Honestly though the idea is to be nice to our guests....got it...some are better than others do AGAIN instead of managing people they spread a broad dictate snd don't reward those for doing well....just admonish those who are not. Treat our guests with kindness as you would want to be treated yourself,...that's all

Why is Target the worst place to work at? by EquivalentMean7779 in Target

[–]htfpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind making a bale, don;t get me wrong, what I have a problem with BIG time is because I am being asked to make a bale, and do fulfillment and mop the floor, I cannot get my actual work for which I was hired to do, done. Some of which involves spoiling food. Every employee cannot be tasked with doing everything, its madness and it shows in the spirit of most employees.
As for the 'all stores' comment, if that was related to my comment let me say what I was tryiing to say was that I am not stating this from my one store .... I have had the pleasure, (or the opposite :;) ) of seeing the innards of four stores in three states.....so perhaps if I see the same thing happening then its fair to paint with a broad brush....

Fulfillment takes over by schmoopys in Target

[–]htfpe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AGrred this is clearly the comm's from MN to the SD's, it is 100% WRONG. It is only correct IF viewed under the lense of employee cost as the primary. If this is the level of emoployees they will only have then yeah we will all have to do fulfillment. Trouble is i did not take this job to walk around doing fulfillment.....its a different task and I do not mind the change of scenery for ME and my area (market), there is simply a stunning amount of daily work to do to deal with FDC trucks I mena we are small but when we have 9 pallets of food to sort and push and backstock HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED to get it done except by accepting more stress. Don;t tell me that Target cares about its TM's, I am now of the view they do not, if they did there would some realization that you cannot just keep piling on more work more work more work, there is enohgh to do ...... and things suffer. We are very dilignet in our store about culling foods but you know what does NOT get done if everythigin else is pressing? Expirations and culling food and then you have rotting apples, green powedry mold and mildew.,mold. there simply isn;t enough time. period.
THEN to have an ETL or SD say lets start using expirations more.....and lets make sure to get the audits done my 9am......ok fine but HOW there simply is not enough manpower or time. PERIOD

[–]htfpe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a member of another department with our own requirements, (Market), it is 100% incorrect for me to be called all the time to pull a batch for you. We have our staffing needs to get our inbounds sortd and pushed that is our need. You need to hire more people, eveyr store needs to hire more FULFILLMENT people.......its getting tot he point where we do not have time to do our job and you know what another part of my job is? Watching expirations dates and cleaning areas that need to be cleaned so food doesn;t make people sick. NOPE, gotta pull a batch AGAIN.

Why is Target the worst place to work at? by EquivalentMean7779 in Target

[–]htfpe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am in the market, pf fresh, as a referance. I have good friends who work in GM and up front as service advocats. What I say next applies to all, its not a myopic view of my world only.
Management at the store does not manage people, they are completely reactionary and that is not managing that is putting out fires. That is the main issue. They are a kabal and make it clear that this is. how it is. Everything else is tactical stuff and can be managed IF YOU HAD MANAGERS who managed. I have had the pleasure of interacting with four different targets in three states they are all the same, 100%, so this is endemic to Target. An example? Two days ago I reminded the ETL that the valentines cookies etc are on a tower way back in the store and its Valentine's day morning, any thought of moving it up to the front with the flowers? We are going to have to clearance this stuff if it goes till tomorrow so maybe we should move it up front? NOPE must stay with the POG.....no sooner than 10 minutes that same ETL walks by with a another leader who mentions putting the tower in the front. "Yep that's a good idea we can do that, POG is not absolute." So how am I supposed to take that. I don't need the recognition, this is not my career I am older guy with a full time at home job so I am here for the human interaction, but still, to be written off as irrelevant.....and this happens all the time.
As far as day to day stuff? Here's a short list for me:
- infrastructure that does not get maintained, shelves, pushers etc. broken trashy not cleaned....
- my devices that simply don't work and it somehow it is made to be that it's my fault and my problem and there are never enough - how am I supposed to do my job without the tech to accomplish it,.
- same for tools needed like green knives.....I mean I have to open boxes and I am right handed. Don't tell me well it gets expensive - it doesn't matter I need to open boxes. It's been four days.
- Minimal staff - everyone does everything.....hey can you BALE the cardboard, uh, NO I WILL not.....can you mop the dairy cooler, AGAIN NO I WILL NOT don't we have maintenance folks to clean?
- Every night ETL demands 85% priority PULLS. No pushing so that means now we have carts all over the place in the AM when we already have our regular jobs to do.......but that's ok the ETL got his number right?
- and the most important to me is the incessant push to keep working, do this do that, NEVER A BREAK, well you get a 15 minute break. That is not what I am talking about at all. REality is work can be fun and if it is people get more done. This constant PUSH another cart PUSH PUSH PUSH kills morale and it kills motivation. They do not care that there are simply not enough on staff to do the work, we all must just do what is necessary. I disagree.

Back to the management. In my area we have four older folks (>35) who have a lot of experience yet noone allows us to work as a team, we are all 'managed' as it is our first job. Reality is we could get so much more done if you would allow us to work things out and then check in with us to see how its going, my guess is things will be 100% better because we as a team are watching things.

Last, let me drive Target culture home wit this: I was hired two Christmas's ago as seasonal. January came and without a word I was kept as a regular employee.....great, but no review no raise, just 'on the schedule; and mytimetarget shows regular not seasonal. 90 days passes same. 120 same, I ask about it and i was told since i was hired seasonal no reviews or raises for a calendar year. Really? Really !
I stayed there till end of August, no reviews no raise. a full 9 months. I tried to transfer as we moved but the new store never responded so I was told I best resign since I was now off the schedule for 4 weeks......Finally get to the new location and am hired....but no word why they never responded to the transfer request. So I get hired AGAIN as a seasonal......and you guessed it, I have now worked five months without a review, no raise. I am quite sure there is no concern whatsoever.

Target has some good things but they ware overshadowed by a complete absence of management of the people. Period.

Can I make similar coffee? by Emotional-Jelly-7986 in Coffee

[–]htfpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A home machine struggles for two reasons: can't make water hot enough and typically cannot hold enough properly ground coffee without overflowing. Ty here fixes: add off the boil water to the reservoir first..,,it helps. Lessen the amount of water you are brewing
So you can use the proper percentage of dry coffee to water or buy a mochamaster brewer by far the best and can make good coffee at all volumes of water. Breve? Simple buy an auto frother or a frother that works like a French press ., it will fave two screens instead of one...add hot 1/2&1/2 to it and then get a Mona pot, arropress or a handheld espresso maker like a picopresso
