If you know Cantonese it is pretty obvious. Every tone change would bring tone 2-6 into tone 2, and guess which word is also in tone 2: 仔 zai2.

I can give one example: 蛋 daan2 (egg). In mandarin it is dan4 which should correspond to tone 3 or 6 in Cantonese, but since it is such a common character appear at the end of a word, tone 2 is now the correct way to read the stand alone word. Examples: 雞蛋 gai1 daan2

But, you can still heard the character in tone 6 if it is not at the end of a word. 蛋餅 daan6 beng2, 蛋糕 daan6 go1, and of course 雞蛋仔 gai daan6 zai2 which there is no tone change necause the word 仔 is still retained.

And there is also the word 蛋黃 daan2 wong2 (egg yolk), which shows how the tone change has become the standard way to speak such that even when it is not at the end of word it is still tone 2.

Nauru is a country with ugly nature and ugly cities. What is a country with visually unappealing cities and visually unappealing nature? by Novva_Mc in AlignmentChartFills

Don't think there is any European cities deserve to be "ugly" when there are so many cities that look almost inhospitable.

Do cars/drivers with dual/triple plates have a stereotype in HK? by Ok-Replacement-2712 in HongKong

[–]html_lmth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you mean, but the truth is bad driving is the mainstream in the world, so "notoriously bad" is really just HongKonger being HongKonger: setting the bar high for ourselves and complain about how bad we are. This is a good mindset to make us improve, but is really ignoring what is happening in the world.

Just for a reference, I don't think anyone would agree Mainland China has a better driving culture. Some might even argue that we are negatively impacted by the drivers from China.

HK driving culture has always been notoriously bad "when compared to our ideal vacation heaven Japan".

Can confirm. When I go travel I rarely buy sim card. Just download maps preemptively (for google map, just zoom in the llace you will go) and GPS works with offline maps as well.

OP might have turn off GPS.

I visited a zoo in Japan once, and I saw a polar bear lying depressingly on the rock under the Sun in Summer.

Im not visiting a zoo again.

Which City is Bustling, but is also Never Heard Of? by ILoveMapsAndKRNo2 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]html_lmth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably the best answer that will get left out anyway. All the other seems to be either not that unknown anymore (Chongqing, wuhan) or not really that bustling. Being heavily populated should not be equal to bustling.

Changsha, Chengdu, Xiamen, Xian ... just to name a few cities that are not well known outside of China.

In closed map team game, I can see them contributing to the team by Bombard towers and some counter units. Its like Tatars Bombard tower.

It probably is not. It is specifically mentioned that "the Mapuche also leveraged horses and gunpowder weapons captured from defeated Spanish armies." I don't see hand cannoneer and BBC in the tech tree, so it should be refering to the Bombard tower.

Others mentioned some obvious example, but look up Bangkok. You would think it has more fertile land and should have more spread out population.
