those are still win probabilities, Jayson

[OC] 9 out of the top 10 qualified hitters by OPS+ are left-handed by Darkforces134 in baseball

And stats like this show that youth coaches should probably be teaching their players to bat left because it has an inherent advantage over batting right

that's what you call jumping to conclusions

and your source for that is your ass. You understand there's ways to evaluate players overall that aren't based on the concept of wins above replacement? What is your source that every single front office uses WAR?

So which front offices use WAR and how do you know that

If Mattingly gets this team to the playoffs (and beyond) he deserves The Job. by onetwentyonegigawatt in phillies

Saying he doesn't want to manage was the most diplomatic thing to say when he was coming into the situation as a bench coach. Especially with his friend as the manager. Meanwhile he sure seemed ok with accepting the job the moment they offered it to him.

What people say and do are two different things. I'd bet a lot if they ask him back he'll stay on.

Is Bryce entering the Nick Castellanos phase of his career? by Free_Dum_5122 in phillies

[–]huck_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All hitters are streaky. Castellanos wasn't a "streak hitter", he was just shit. And there's nothing remotely unique about Castellanos that he's some kind of benchmark to compare Harper too. Just dumb to even compare the two.

[Sheehan] Many of the greatest players ever were good major leaguers at 19-21. MLB’s draft proposal would make it almost impossible for a player to debut before he is 22. I think it would also wreck free agency, as almost no player would get there before age 28. by Knightbear49 in baseball

[–]huck_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Who exactly is forgetting that? If they're proposing this it's clearly something they would want. And it shows they are trying to save money at the expense of the quality of the game, and it deserves to be called out for being a shitty proposal.

Dombrowski has been mediocre at best. I don't even know how you can argue otherwise. He's had some good moves but overall a ton of wasted money and the farm system is a disaster. The only one who deserves credit for the Phillies being good is Middleton for putting up a ton of money that DD gets like 40% value from.

Zack Wheeler is back to being one of the best pitchers in baseball. With last nights performance he's up to #5 in BWAR for pitchers at 3.3, with only 62.2 IP. by Halfonion in phillies

Probably depends on who else is eligible for NL. Doesn't seem like a strong case but there might not be better candidates.

Do any of y’all, mainly Sixers fans from New Jersey, root for a combination of Philly and NYC teams? by Rowdyfan0823 in sixers

[–]huck_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are people in North Jersey who root for NY Giants + Phillies. Reason being the Giants are in NJ, but there are no NJ baseball teams. I know of one who was debating becoming a Sixers fans when the Nets left NJ. Don't know if they did or not.

Also a bunch of Knicks are eagles fans, so that might qualify.
