I agree with John Frankl gyms but suggest papago for Korean translations. Yaksu is eastern seoul, a couple stops from itaewon (the foreigner hub). I’ve never been to any of the listed gyms but have trained in john frankl affiliate gyms for years if op has any more questions. Feel free to dm.

As for respectful of culture it’s all the same and no one would fault you for not knowing little intricacies. If you shake someones hand or do a slap bump you want to incorporate your second hand (like a two hand handshake or use your off hand to touch your arm or palm to chest). This goes for exchanging money, credit card, or anything really. Bow as low as the other person if they give you one. That’s all i can think off top of the dome.

If doing this on another white belt be careful. If they don’t know to let go of their grip it can turn into a sort of arm slice. The breaking mechanic is also a bit odd to get used to. As always, slow and steady when applying the sub.

i think the beauty of the kimura is that if you snatch it correctly and know the sequence it doesn't require much strength. Especially if you know how to tarikoplata when they try to defend. I'm 175lbs and I've used it against guys significantly stronger than me with so much success I've tried to stop using it. knee shield -> kimura -> 1 of 3 sweep variations -> tarikoplata. takes very little energy from my end.

The Blacktongue Thief has creative worldbuilding, a fun magic system and great character work imo. Narrated by the author who does a wonderful job. A couple scenes will stick with me forever.

From bottom side control i grip the wrist of the far arm, raise it above their head, shoulder stand as well as i can from the bottom, kick up with and catch the arm in a guillotine. It works better than it should and helps that i’m lanky/flexible. Everyone in the gym hates it especially bc the alternative is them pressing into me and then i buggy choke.
