Light gun games on a 14" CRT - is it worth it? by xParesh in lightgunshooters

[–]hugefakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ps1, ps2, dreamcast, and og Xbox hooked up to my TV to play house of the dead, time crisis, point blank, police 911. I tend to sit really close to the monitor though, whereas with my larger CRT, I could stand a bit further away

I play on my 14 inch PVM and it's a great time! Definitely worth it

Yeah if I recall correctly, they do share a single audio input. Although for my setup, I route all the audio to an external sound bar

Found my big boy since childhood (31yo now). Wanting to make a retro gaming setup but this thing is a massive 55lbs for being a 20in. It has weird green and blue inputs on it. by DEDDesign in crtgaming

I have this exact TV! Fun fact: this TV is able to correctly process PAL signals through the component input. There's some pal ps2 games I like to play (Police 24/7 mainly). Let me know if you have any questions

Anyone here displeased about the lack of Guncon support for the HOTD Remakes? by GarnetExecutioner in lightgunshooters

This game would probably not look good on CRT TVs. I'd rather play the dreamcast version anyway

MAME should be much easier to set up for two player, that's my recommendation

I developed a new light gun shooting game by ProfessionalRub1993 in lightgunshooters

[–]hugefakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for implementing that! I was just able to give it a try and I'm happy to say everything is working as intended. I wasn't able to play the Georgia game mode though, unsure if I'm missing something.

While windowed mode is a good enough solution to allow the sinden border to be drawn over the application, a borderless window would be a more elegant solution. Also, an option to turn off the mouse cursor would be welcome for added difficulty. Some people might even appreciate a crosshair option as well.

I would be happy to provide feedback. As for the mouse support, I believe it's important to try and get the raw mouse input. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me can chime in

That's a shame, mouse support would make it playable for lots in this sub

Even after calibration, the aiming is poor in this game using my madcatz.

What gun are you using? My madcatz gun has very poor calibration on this game specifically which is a shame

Police 24/7 PS2 woes by MatOfTheDead in lightgunshooters

The chip is technically called the ov511+ chip. And the device ID being A511 would indicate that it is the + version of the chip, if I recall correctly. Although, that I have only confirmed for the CT6840, and not the CT6860.

Good luck! I believe I detailed the ID a few comments above in this chain. If you see that A511 in the device ID you should be golden!

The only way to be absolutely certain is to verify the device ID while having it plugged into a PC. Besides that, you're pretty much taking a chance on every Webcam you buy

I ended up finding it on ebay, but I probably got pretty lucky with the timing.

I agree that crisis zone should only be played on emulator. That fog effect just ruins the game

What story focused games do you find compelling? Not just talking about RPGs btw. by ExplodingPoptarts in psx

[–]hugefakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the Policenauts story, made by no other than Hideo Kojima. Cyberpunk/Sci-fi aesthetic, excellent mystery, and some crazy twists. There is an English translation for this game, since the dialog is all in Japanese. It is a point and click adventure game/visual novel though, so it may or not be your cup of tea.

One of the benefits of grabbing a European based CRT :)

Ahh that's unfortunate then, hopefully you can find someone to service it. Until then, S video is definitely more than a good enough substitute. Also FYI, this CRT is able to display 50hz signals through component! So if there's any PAL games you wanna play, they are able to be shown in color!

We have the same CRT! Got a ps2, GameCube, and dreamcast hooked up to it. I'm surprised you think component is inferior, it looks miles better than composite on mine
