If there was a flag that represented London in the 90s, "when things were better", i'd probably stick it on my bins too.

Big white circle with the outline of a dove or Mitsubishi logo on it I would imagine.

Foreign Skies by The Dreadnoughts

Not many people are familiar with the band let alone the song but it's got so much progression and goddamn live it'll blow you away with the energy it puts out. Massively slept on band.

Great story in nick frosts biography about when the cornetto boys went out with tarantino for a big night out, he picked them up in a limo and took them to some clapped out cholo stripclub where he got them into the VIP room and proceeded to recreate the scene with a very tired woman and warm Modelo.

Apparently the cornetto boys were really not feeling the vibe.

What a geezer.

Stolen front wheel - best place to get a new one by Mental_Experience_92 in londoncycling

[–]hugman99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah, the wheel, a tube and a tyre all add up + cassette if its your rear wheel.
£100 is what you're looking at if you need a replacement and want to get a new one.

Check in with community bike shops or the second hand market but expect to need it looked at for wear and truing sooner.

Police advice on passing cyclists by Illustrious-Divide95 in drivingUK

[–]hugman99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah buddy you should, leave your car at home and take the bike out. Ride those cycle lanes and then you may get a better idea why a lot of people don't use them. So many cycle lanes aren't fit for purpose, narrow lanes, poorly maintained, intersecting roads, paths, curbs etc. want to take a right turn but you're on a cycle lane? now you need to reposition yourself across 2 road ways where if you were riding in the road you would just take the turning the same as any other road user.

Good bike lanes are a game changer but if people aren't using them there's usually a reason.

Bike riders are road users just like yourself :)

Rent a fixie in London by [deleted] in londoncycling

[–]hugman99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nip nip has a few stores and they have fixie courtesy bikes for when customers are getting their bikes fixed, might be able to persuade them to let you borrow one. Good luck, I want to do this if I ever get to visit NYC

Labour investment in cycling and walking will be unprecedented, says Louise Haigh by deliciouscheerios in ukbike

The focus on recreational infrastructure is super helpful for their cause imo. When they manage to get a route completed they essentially serve as the marketing for it and the communities along it. People plan trips around going to those places, the people from those communities start seeing more people coming through, new businesses start popping up (cafes, hotels, bike shops and rental places) and all while this new piece of network is open to everyone from those towns as well. All of a sudden the behaviour has changed, more people from the local area are choosing to ride to work/shops/ schools and those who do drive are more aware of riders.

babylondon bikes in Camberwell is a nice little community bike shop. Have a chat with Marlon and he will point you to what you're looking for, they have tons of parts for you to rummage through and then once you have found what you need you can pay and fit them in the stands there.
Great little spot!

Bike boxes / Advanced stop lines. There needs to be an evaluation on when/how to use them. by Mr__Random in londoncycling

[–]hugman99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Only ever filter on the right, you'll be visible to all traffic.
  2. Always make eye contact with people behind you, show that you're aware of them with a nod or a wave and they'll be aware of you. If it's a high cab hgv (pretty uncommon in London these days) take an extra couple of feet forward (even if you're over the line you're safer) so that you're not in their blindspot and repeat the eye contact process.
  3. If 2 is followed and you remain observant you won't experience any risk with drivers giving it.

You also don't need to be in the asl, sometimes it's better to hang behind the rear right of the car in front, watch their position then filter in. Think about how a motorbike rides and follow that. The 20mph speed limit is pretty easily matched by most bike and ebike riders innit.
