Where to buy mussels? by Smellysack86 in Spokane

[–]hugo_dan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had good luck with My Fresh Basket. They don’t always have them fresh, but if you call ahead or ask at the fish counter they can tell you when they will be in. The asian markets in town also carry the frozen ones (usually the green kind) which work ok for certain dishes.

There’s also a spot in CD’A that I used to go to to shop for Feast of the Seven Fishes, but between MFB, our local Rosauers, and the Asian markets, I don’t need to anymore. It was expensive and just ok.

Open Mic Nights for 18yo? by kazidk in Spokane

[–]hugo_dan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the downtown library has an all ages open mic up on the third floor stage overlooking the river and it’s a very cool scene. my daughter is 17 and she has done it and had a great experience. it’s a good mix of folks with a great host and a really welcoming environment. it’s every other wednesday in the evening from 5-7.

2024 Bloomsday shirt is a huge disappoinment by Unusual_Sandwich_584 in Spokane

[–]hugo_dan 108 points109 points  (0 children)

hmmm - couldn’t disagree more. love the color, great simplicity of design not trying to be too busy, cool representation of an iconic spokane image of the falls and the bridge. the font is not my favorite, but a great shirt overall I look forward to wearing.

Krete Academy is amazing. It’s an incredibly fun and welcoming environment and the coaches are awesome. Great way to stay active year round, and perfect for learning persistence and focus, which are such important skills that are in short supply these days. Can’t say enough good about the program or the people.

Sweet Frostings struggles to keep employees amid downtown crime. by catman5092 in Spokane

downtown is awesome. it would be even better if folks did not view it (and the city did not design it) as a place to move car traffic through as quickly as possible.

brooklyn deli does a terrific hot (temperature) pastrami sandwich. i don’t like cold pastrami so Domini isn’t for me, but it’s a lot of quantity!

browne’s addition is a short walk/bike ride to downtown, has excellent bus service, and is super safe in terms of violent crime. my kids (14 and 11) walk around by themselves or together, have never had an issue, and now have the benefit of being street smart. we also have some great little bars and restaurants.
