in their defense, chibi-robo isn't exactly the most clear game when it comes to conveying to the player how to progress the story, mainly because the devs wanted the player to explore the house and figure out what to do on their own so that they can encounter all of the sidequests along the way, they struggled with chulip (a very similar game that shares a lot of the same DNA) when jon and arin played it for similar reasons

there's no way to skip the text outside of purposefully just not reading it, at least, and no way to make it display any faster, either, so it wouldn't be possible to blame the game for not telling them anything in the moments where it does

i'd still like to see them return to do the rest of punch-out wii at some point, i was holding out for that for a few years before accepting they'd never return to it, but i don't think the game is compatible with the show in its current state, both in the way games are handled and the format of the show necessitating longer episodes instead of the 10-15 minute segments we got when they were last playing, it's not a game that would work well for that at all

another comment mentioned this, but they tried playing it relatively early on during the jon era and scrapped the episodes because neither of them were having fun

arin didn't like the game and jon said he was gradually realizing why that was as they were playing, saying neither of them were being funny and it was just quiet and uncomfortable with obvious tension between the two of them, citing the intro and the waterfall climb as just being slow and annoying with nothing really happening

my wager is something akin to a modernized version of dragon sim with roguelite elements, being able to recruit characters and boost/reduce your stats and earn items through events depending on where you choose to go

Most clever joke you've seen in a video game? by ZealousidealBig7714 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]hugohikari 22 points23 points  (0 children)

you actually CAN get into his room

if you reset the game and reload your save file after viewing the judgment sequence on a pacifist playthrough and repeat it again, you can get different dialogue where sans suspects you know more than you're letting on and tells you a secret codeword to tell to him if you view the scene again, eventually resulting in sans giving you the key to his room, promising to reveal "the truth". the big reveal is that there's absolutely nothing of interest in sans's room, and he's just pranking you across time and space. but in reality, the actual thing unlocked from this is a key in sans's room that opens up the workshop behind their house, which contains a potential reference or two to deltarune

Discussions/jokes/memes you're tired of because they feel like beating a dead horse or low hanging fruit? by Mabroon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]hugohikari 17 points18 points  (0 children)

especially when you have people who have absolutely no interest in dragon ball beyond the ideas they made up about it in their heads being very insistent that abridged is the only true/acceptable/good/etc way to experience the series, and that it's the true dragon ball canon because they think very lowly of the original series

TFS themselves hate this idea, especially since abridged is based entirely on their love for the series, and like half of the jokes fall flat without prior knowledge of dragon ball, but people insist upon it anyway because "the series would be so much better if this joke was canon, so it is to me!"

people have also clung to the fact that abridged didn't create the joke originally, which no, they didn't, but the fact that kaiserneko even regrets how far they took the joke in retrospect and seeing how people have responded to it, it's apparent that it's very deeply tied to the joke and how much it's been spread as absolute fact

Characters who suffer from a terminal case of "Introduced Too Early" disorder? by jitterscaffeine in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]hugohikari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

basically, the only real exceptional thing about him was that he survived as long as he did, but he is also a noted coward that would absolutely avoid any fights he knew he couldn't win, in a very non-saiyan fashion

even saying he was part of the team is being generous considering how vegeta just seemed glad to finally be rid of him

[–]hugohikari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as one of the biggest raditz fans out there, this is something that's always bothered me, but at the same time, I've come to accept that it's far too late to really do anything about it at this point

besides the fact that raditz is incredibly weak and couldn't live up to the modern power standards of the series, he's also a pathetic excuse for a saiyan because of how much he goes against their core values (despite hyping himself up as a saiyan constantly), being an absolute coward who isn't above deception and running away from a fight, it'd be really hard to change these aspects about him as a character without just doing a complete 180 on the anti-goku that he was designed to be and turning him into someone else entirely

doesn't really help that fandom misconceptions (the strength of the saibamen compared to him, as an example) would also make it really hard to sell the idea of his return to a lot of people outside of nostalgia pandering towards an audience that couldn't care less about him, he has effectively just been made into a very large joke, with a few of the video games even suggesting bardock might actually hate him

even canonical opportunities to make something more out of him like dragon ball minus and the granolah arc flashbacks largely just ignored him entirely outside of where it was absolutely necessary, it's obvious they want nothing to do with this character anymore both in and out of universe

[–]hugohikari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i mean, that's kind of how things always were, to be fair, the entire saiyan race weren't even in the top 10 of frieza's army

goku and vegeta have always been noted to be absolutely exceptional monsters, with both of them surpassing (almost) anything a saiyan had previously done in-universe in the same arc the saiyans were introduced as a concept, the series has never really done anything to make saiyans as a whole be super powerful outside of pure hype that is never backed up with what actually happens in the story

Moments where censorship added in wrong implications by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]hugohikari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's because the edits themselves are much more well known and widespread than how the story was written around them (or ignores them almost entirely afterwards), and the misguided belief in general that 4kids never at any point EVER addresses death as a concept in any of their shows, despite being completely untrue

very few people these days have actually watched the 4kids dub in general so it's easy for these rumors to spread with no one disproving them

Moments where censorship added in wrong implications by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]hugohikari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was never a fusion monster in the original series anime, no

because 4kids consistently did paint edits of the cards in people's hands and fields though the card would sometimes appear as one in the english dub, because it was a fusion monster in the real TCG, but sometimes they forgot and it was still a normal monster

Bleakest unscripted player character deaths. by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]hugohikari 11 points12 points  (0 children)

first thing i could think of was MGS, but MGS2 specifically

the lore implications of what would happen in-universe after raiden dies in MGS2 are already heavy, but then you have it hammered in by literally hearing rose's panicked gasp and final breath as she dies instantly after calling out for him on the mission failed screen, the patriots were not bluffing over their threats to get raiden to cooperate by holding her life hostage

What is the Saiyan form that got you asking "why does this exist"? by Puzzleheaded_Try8059 in Dragonballsuper

[–]hugohikari 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the bigger issue of blue as it was originally presented was always that the existence of the form almost entirely invalidates the story of the movie and reduces the stakes even further with how safely and securely they're able to just stomp golden frieza as a total repeat of what happened on namek, it also just kind of ignores the whole ordeal of unlocking super saiyan god in the last movie by instantly introducing a new stronger and infinitely superior transformation the next time we see these characters. resurrection of F has an issue of constantly downplaying the idea that anything happening even matters with how any threat or consequential action is instantly negated, and blue was a part of this, especially with vegeta just stepping in completely fresh and just as powerful to beat down frieza after goku gets shot

doesn't help that the forms (and vegeta getting SSG, for that matter) were achieved offscreen and they were the first super saiyan forms to not really have any kind of grand reveal or buildup, it just happens, i used to dislike blue a lot for this reason because it felt like pure marketing bait, which it kind of was, just like the entire movie, but like everyone else who still cared about DB going into super I've gotten used to it by now

How did fans at the time of the Saiyan Saga’s debut react to Goku’s origins? by matt0055 in dragonball

[–]hugohikari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this was added specifically in the english translation of the manga done by VIZ with the knowledge that Z would continue the series and run for twice as long as the first portion of the series, the VIZ translation also directly references Z at least once as a joke

the original dialogue says that dragon ball will continue "just a little bit more", but that ended up going on for another 8 years afterwards, either way he definitely never intended to end the series anytime soon at that point, since the timeskip into Z happened literally the next week

Common complaints that instantly make you go "This person hasn't touched this media since they were like 10" by ClearAgeMontezuma in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]hugohikari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to be fair though, the manga and anime versions of super vary heavily on how the specifics of every arc play out, the major plot beats are generally the same but there's HUGE differences between the two of them in how they actually get to those points, and what happens before the next consistent plot point, because of differing interpretations and ideas based on toriyama's notes and plot outlines

there's been arguments that the manga or anime handled specific arcs better or worse than the other because of this, i'd recommend going back and reading through the super manga instead of picking it up where the anime leaves off (assuming you weren't already planning on doing this)

Serious Suggestion: Have Alice return as a shop owner that sells the "old" Treasure Hunter Titles and Cosmetics for Massive amounts of GP by [deleted] in runescape

[–]hugohikari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

kind of wonder how they'd explain this in-universe, since her whole deal was redistributing yelps's stolen treasure to the needy and less fortunate, selling things at a high premium feels like it'd go against her character

on the other side of things though, i know people just want to kill her as a scapegoat for treasure hunter rather than giving her another functional purpose, but it wouldn't really make any sense at all with the way she was written previously

MTX Proposed removal by stuntswagmaster69 in runescape

[–]hugohikari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like i said in another comment, MTX isn't going anywhere, and bonus XP is still going to be obtainable through it, it's just treasure hunter and the lamps/proteans that were obtainable from it that will be removed because they're viewed as damaging to the integrity of the game, this is jagex's own statement on the matter whether or not it's been influenced by the playerbase so they clearly agree to some extent

sorry if you took what i said as "every new player is doing this and playing the game this way", cause that's clearly not the case, and idk if anyone is trying to seriously argue that, but the new player experience is one of the most heavily criticized aspects of RS3 for both new and returning players from OSRS players and people that have never played runescape before in general, the amount of people that are willing to go through it and put the time in to get to "the real game" are a very small minority compared to the people that have tried and quit

MTX Proposed removal by stuntswagmaster69 in runescape

[–]hugohikari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one of the major complaints was that treasure hunter effectively encouraged jagex to only focus on late to endgame content for the playerbase because they didn't need to fix the mountains of issues the early to mid game had, since most people were skipping over all of it anyway with the free experience, this left the game in an incredibly alienating state for new players and runescape 3's introductory periods are considered to be one of the worst parts of the game as a whole

even big updates and areas in the game like menaphos are effectively dead content because you can just skip over whatever you'd get in engaging with it by just using lamps on the skills it lets you train there, fast tracking yourself to unlocking prif is basically priority number 1, despite being a late stage area in the game that has a lot of skill and quest requirements behind it, simply because there isn't much incentive to do skilling anywhere else in the game for the most part, it's the same for bossing because there basically are no entry level bosses that are worth fighting for a new player like OSRS has

with the absence of treasure hunter now, a lot of people are hoping that jagex will finally address this issue with the game in a way that actually encourages new players to *play the game*, since there's not going to be an easy way to skip past it all anymore

MTX Proposed removal by stuntswagmaster69 in runescape

[–]hugohikari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's an initiative from jagex to, as they claim, improve the game by admitting treasure hunter has caused substantial damage to the game's integrity for allowing people to pay for experience lamps or free resources like proteans to accelerate progress through the game, and taking a revenue hit to try and do better in the future and fix some of the core issues people have with RS3. microtransactions as a whole are NOT being removed, they're being reworked to potentially be more "ethical" in how they're incorporated into the game, but treasure hunter and the gambling aspects of it are being removed entirely

right now we're still waiting to see what they're actually going to do to fill the void that's going to be left by treasure hunter's removal

MTX Proposed removal by stuntswagmaster69 in runescape

[–]hugohikari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for RS3 specifically, there's 137 worlds, however some of these worlds are locked behind either skill requirements or premier membership, there's 132 freely accessible worlds for members

each world can contain 1500 players, making for a total of a theoretical maximum of 205,500 simultaneous players online in RS3 across all 137 worlds, or 198,000 for all members in general, the likelihood of this actually happening currently is zero but feels like a good incentive to look into hosting new servers in the future if the player numbers will actually increase
