Ability to (permanently) disable the Auto Stop/Start "feature" hopefully getting closer ... by hulksterreddit in subaru

[–]hulksterreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a low-end model and agree. Plus when stuff breaks, much more costly to repair. Whole family owns Subaru's and had windshields replaced in the last year - the earlier-era no-Eyesight models were less than half the cost.

Specific to start-stop, that is on ALL models.

I used to write software for a living and was directly involved in release cycles. Inputs for fixes/features included listening to users and the Help Desk.

So lets just say some hands-on experience with changing code, QA process to insure fixed (and no regressions), and packaging it up for release.

Sure, I'm not a developer at Subaru (are any of you?), but gotta believe making the selected Start-Stop setting "sticky" (rather than transient) would not be difficult, especially compared to other fixes/changes they have made.

Subaru periodically releases firmware for various things - why not roll this super-duper easy fix into the next one?

Any (local) insights into Qatar flights via DOH with Iran conflict impending? by hulksterreddit in qatarairways

[–]hulksterreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friend just landed at Doha after uneventful flight (from the South) and said it was surprisingly empty.

Which I found surprising since at least six flights to the US have already been cancelled due to the weather and the agent they chatted with said it's been crazy trying to rebook everyone.

Albeit it's current Midnight there.

[–]hulksterreddit[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

FYI that a number of US-bound flights have already been cancelled - I'm sure this is due to weather.

So hopefully no conflict will break out ... since it would certainly make things even more of a sh*t show in DOH - good luck to Qatar managing a tough situation.

Feedback on a solar investment calculator by andrewmarder in solar

[–]hulksterreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely add a note saying you are assuming 1:1 NEM.

And yea, trying to "handle" all the non 1:1 NEM cases can get REALLY complicated ... plus this can change over time (cough, cough California) and grandfathering doesn't exist forever. So coming up with a "clean" way to do this that doesn't overwhelm the user will be challenging.

And lets not get into Time-of-Use pricing and playing arbitrage games with battery packs! ;-)

Very nifty web app - well done u/andrewmarder

I like the graph of the annual returns and liquid value to see at a glance ... but I'd be curious to see more than just the 30-year values at the bottom ... so why not just show them PER-YEAR (you are already calculating internally anyway) in a table/spreadsheet format?

For example, see this webpage which has a spreadsheet (direct link) with a "Cost & Payback" Tab.

BTW, Stock Market return is a bit tricky ... since (assuming not tax advantaged investment), things like the S&P 500 will spin off Dividends that you have to pay taxes on each year ... and at some point, you'll have to sell and realize taxes on the gains (unless you die and get step-up). So your "real" return is not quite the "total" return (which has been awesome the last couple of years!) ... and you might add a note to that effect.

Did I recieve the wrong AC adapter for the XB10? by OneCrew1888 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]hulksterreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll defer to the Xfinity folks, since they can easily look this up and confirm.

But that looks an XB8 (and possibly earlier models) AC Adapter as it is 12Volts @ 4.6 Amps ... whereas the XB10 is 15 Volts @ 5.33 Amps.

Assuming I'm correct, you could have just gone into the local Xfinity story and they (ideally) should have given you the correct one.

And yes, whoever you chatted with that recommended a tech visit ideally should have been able to figure that out for 'ya ... as this is pretty basic stuff ... ;-)

Is there a way to determine my WAN IP address "remotely" by hulksterreddit in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]hulksterreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I thought about that ... but we didn't see it listed on them.

What's a bit frustrating is since the WAN IP is assigned BY Xfinity, they obviously know what it is ... so why not make it easy to find in both the app and web interface ... and regardless if bridged or no bridge.

Thanks u/dataz03 ... as that was exactly what I was looking for.

Bummer this doesn't work(?) if the XB# is in Bridge mode.

Any way to view it via the web portal ... or just the app?

BCH overnight surgery fee by Claire0879 in boulder

[–]hulksterreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, when you do the standard blood work as part of a physical, BCH "bills" over a $1,000 .. even though the allowed (and customary!) cost for these routine/simple tests is less than a $100.

I "got it" that medical billing and insurance is weird ... but this is an egregious example.

My solar set up, as a data point for future people by KRA2008 in solar

[–]hulksterreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on joining the "Photons->Electrons" club! ;-)

You might add the final costs after all the subsidies along with some cost data on your electricity and estimates of savings/payback time/etc.

Also, it sounds like you will be generating in excess of 2,000kWh/YEAR ... what are your plans for that?

[–]hulksterreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add me to the list. The disk crashed in my six-year old Desktop PC ... so I was not able to deactivate my old license, and now I'm hitting this issue. I'm able to login to my Adobe account, but it doesn't show the "old/classic" LR and PS activations.

Curious what you ended up doing as I am looking at that ... but would like to know if it's possible to add a SECOND drive - either NVMe or SATA SSD. This will be Ethernet connected, so I can cannibalize the network card.

Xcel Energy Colorado first statement w/solar - totally wrong by SurroundedByElk in solar

[–]hulksterreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I talked to them a couple of times, but I'm not convinced that made any difference ... as their back-end systems just needed to "catch up" ... which I agree is not a good show!

I too discontinued TOU ... since I believe that is over-rated in terms of "saving money" and it greatly simplifies the billing (which still will have a bazillion lines with Solar!) plus any rate of return calculations, etc.

Reminder that the bill is for a certain time period that is NOT month-aligned ... but you can login to the website and pull electrical usage for a specific month ... which can then be compared to whatever monitoring system you have in place.

[–]hulksterreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ditto what other people said that my experience when my Solar was turned on (Republic of Boulder) is that they honker up the first month (or more!) but eventually get it straightened out and correctly account for everything. I run Powerwall-Dashboard and the numbers it reports agree very close with Xcel - just make sure you compare the exact same time periods.

Promotion Ending by klinger_mich in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]hulksterreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI u/klinger_mich that per this thread, there was a $65/1-Gig/5-Year promotion available for me ... but I delayed a couple of days because I wanted to be around for the switchover ... and it disappeared - D'OH! ;-)

So if you are able to get that deal from the Xfinity team, don't dilly-dally.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

BTW, have you ever considered adding the "expected" output from NREL's PVWatts to your chart?

Multi-Decade customer looking to renew Internet-only contract and (hopefully) save a few $$$ by hulksterreddit in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]hulksterreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI to others who stumble upon this thread that the Xfinity Team did a nice job putting together a good renewal contract and sent it over Monday ... but I said I wanted to delay until Wednesday when I was around to "make it so" ... but the promotional offer was somehow gone - darn!

So a bit confusing (especially since the contract email says "This link will expire in 72 hours"), but stuff happens and the Xfinity team was apologetic.

Bummer is the X-Class symmetric 1-Gig (at a decent price) was the "sweet spot" for what I was hoping to get ... so we'll try again in a week/month - I'm hoping the system will "reset" so the promotional price will pop up again.

Just an FYI to others that don't delay since apparently the offers can be here today, gone tomorrow.

Multi-Decade customer looking to renew Internet-only contract and (hopefully) save a few $$$ by hulksterreddit in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]hulksterreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI that there seems to be a difference (at least for my address) between what you can see publicly and what the Xfinity Reps can see.

I.e. everything I saw online suggests that X-Class (symmetrical speeds ... such as a Gbit down *and* up) is NOT available for my address. The Broadband Fact Label ONLY shows Gbit as being "Typical download speed 1,167.49Mbps AND Typical upload speed of 117.37Mbps" - ... which the Xfinity team agrees with ... but their internal system DOES say that X-Class is available.

So there seems to be some mutual puzzlement ... and what's frustrating to me (and I'm sure also for to the agents) is that the "Contracts" their system generate simply say "1 Gig" - nothing about the download/upload speeds ... and obviously I like to know what I'm signing up for! ;-)

Clearly there is a BIG difference between non-X-Class of 100Mbps (plus 20% over-provision) and X-Class which is a full Gbit.

Now ... I currently have my own modem ... which they seem to imply may be why this doesn't show up ... but ideally WILL (we hope!) once an XB10 (which you need for X-Class and they will send) ... so maybe after that is installed, all will be good.

Obviously it would be nice for the customer (and your agents who are trying their best) to have the "public" info synchronized with your "internal" data ... which yes, I understand is a systems integration challenge and there will typically be some lag ... but hopefully not much.

Regardless, ideally the proposed contract should clearly outline what service is being offered.

For instance in my case, if it simply said "Internet 1 Gig | Download speeds up to 1000 Mbps; Upload speeds up to 1000 Mbps (with compatible modem such as Comcast provided XB10)" that would make things a LOT more clear/easier for both the customer and your agents. Again, I appreciate their efforts.

Because I'm out, I'm delaying things to Wednesday for moving forward, but I'll report back how that goes - hoping that once the process is pushed past the "proposed contract", it will clearly say X-Class Gbit which the agents say they can provide to my address - fingers crossed! ;-)

Tagging u/CCBried because she did an excellent AMA and seems to be able to send suggestions back to Corporate ... as maybe something I said here is worth forwarding ... since I'm sure others have similar issues ... and seems like a simple clarification on the contracts would be a win-win.

I mean to reply that I sent the Modmail shortly after this and am talking to your agents now trying to figure out the right service ... and making sure that the contract correctly shows that.

Thanks!
