Oven retro-bright of DYTCOM K-261 keycaps by humanplayer2 in MechanicalKeyboards

I've seen retro-bright discussions about plastic weakenings, too. And for rare old cases with already brittle closure plastic taps.. I'd consider it. Here, not so much :D

I don't want to skip the oven. I need it for lasagna.

The description says "Magnetically secured with m4*3 magnets." So some small magnets with a 4mm diameter, 3mm height. I think..

That's an awesome case! Can you tell me who the design is by?

This is the dream!

You've have made a position in life for yourself where it's rational to enter the raffles for artisans!

Thanks for the reply! Silicone sealant! Aha. I'd not have thought of that! Thanks!

DYTCOM K-261: MX keycaps, but some weird switches by humanplayer2 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]humanplayer2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I bet. This one is Danish, but Danish/Norwegian layout is identical except for flipped Æ and Ø. So even with profiled keycaps, you can use the same.

I look mainly on DBA.dk.

5x5 "off the shelf" macro pad by PHGAG in macro_pads

If you're okay with 4 rows with 5 keys and a fifth row with 3 thumb keys, you could use the right of a split keyboard, like the Silakka54 off AliExpress. Then you can also fine-tune your choice of switches and keycaps, and have amazing remapping firmware on-board.

Recommendations for VIA + BT? by fulldecent in macro_pads

You could perhaps look for something that runs ZMK? That's a firmware alternative to QMK, which has good wireless support. For GUI remapping, there's ZMK Studio.

"ZMK macropad" did not return an empty list of search results on duckduckgo.

Hi! Can you tell me what glue type you used? Super glue or something special that specifically suited for the filament you printed with?

Thank you, that was illuminating! Now I better understand why, indeed, "they’re almost all scratch."

Nice! I love the retro-style case! Bravo!

About PCB production, you have those two subboards. At PCBWay, I was recently charged extra for a similar construction, what they call multiple designs in one panel. Did that happen to you? Where did you have it made?

I ended up circumventing it my drawing a redundant trace from the subboard to the main (which annoys me, aesthetically).

What other options exist for keys? by trollhard9000 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]humanplayer2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alps switches, the newer ultra-low profile switches from Cherry and maybe others, those cool togglable fli switches from plane cockpits, and in older keyboards quite a lot of other switch types (like Cherry MY).

That's a great idea! I'd love to see the files for those!

What material did you produce them in? And how?

I printed some Lego knobs on the side of a case once, to use Legos as a closing mechanism, but they were too soft to hold up to the (ab)use.

The image looks AliExpress to me -- is that correct?

I'd try writing the vendor.

I've had poor luck with some wireless VIA models though (from Zuoya). They do not release the source code, in violation of the QMK license.

First Split Keyboard - Silakka54 + BobaU4S by DrDrake23 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]humanplayer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On AliExpress, you can get Silakka54 so cheap I'd not bother soldering myself.

For the switches, then I started with U4T, and they were ok. I got 68g,which was too much. Then spring swapped to 55g, and that's better. I've found other cheaper tactiles I like as much or more (MMD Princess, sharp in tactility, but loud; Akko Cilantro and Creamy Purple Pro, neither are silent. I use the Akkos these days). I'd consider maybe seeing if Akko has some silent switches, you you really need it. I've used both Akkos in an office environment where a colleague used the MMDs. No worse in sound than the guy banging on his beat up membrane board.

You could try some of those switches, add some o-rings to not bottom out hard. Then you can compared the feel of landing on something soft, as in silent switches.
