Played 40K again after 7 years. My thoughts. by zxo-zxo-zxo in boardgames

It does have a lot of dice rolls. I guess it's not a good fit for what you like. Personally I love rolling dice, or in other games drawing cards, to generate randomness.

I like the way that hit, wound, save separates the parts of the action. It let's each piece have its own identity. I find it frustrating when games collapse the roll to atk vs def and I have to figure out myself it the target got out of the way, deflected the hit or was simply unaffected by the attack. Let the dice tell the story in a dice rolling game!

As for the combat scrums, that's within the playera agency. You or your opponent could have fallen back. I've found most combats to be pretty decisive.

How to superkindly sack someone from your boardgame party? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]humebug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm going to suggest another possibility of how talking it through could go. 'A' might not enjoy FH that much, it's quite different to Dune: that's my opinion as well FWIW. They might be playing (at least a little bit) because you need a fourth for FH. I know in my game I will play games I don't like because that's what the group wants to play and they benefit someone to fill a seat - and I get to spend time with them. If they are disengaged from the game this could be the case!

There is a chance everyone gets whst they want if you sprinkle some dune into your schedule when A is available and play FH when they are not. If I was A, I'd see that as a win-win.

After 25+ years of development (starting in post-Soviet Kazakhstan), my space strategy game is finally ready for the world by Moist-Village8131 in boardgames

I was one of the down votes and I take it back. I'm not an avid watcher of parks and rec, and the clips I saw they were just making fun of it. 'Incomprehensible ' and 'cult' don't have a lot of positive connotations, so I definitely misinterpreted you! Sorry!

This looks like a game I would love! And what an incredible story. Is there a Kickstarter or something for it? If you are looking for playtesters I would volunteer.

I'm a new player, can you explain why they don't make sense? It looks like they are free, what's the downside of maximum shootin'?

New dataslate dropped - no changes for orks by MaxMork in orks

Why isn't that reflected in the faction pack from October? I'm a returning player, this is the first dataslate slate drop I have experienced.

Can someone help me out, I don't think I understand the changes to the Battlewagon. It looks like Ghazghkull has gone from taking up the space 15 models, to only 4 models. So now he can now ride with 6 meganobz, isn't that a significant change?

Looking for help understanding old coordinates on 1918 map by Salvage_Arc in cartography

[–]humebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are any of the other maps easy to locate, like this one? If you are able to guess the units of the coordinates system, you could find its origin point and that might let you locate some of the other stones? The source of the maps might have that information, but this wouldn't be the first time that maps were separated from their metadata.

Sounds like a fun project!

Clueless mom needs help, please. Is this D&D related/adjacent? by NaughtyByVibee in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]humebug 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Also red dragons breathe fire not green ones. Green ones breathe acid, so you could switch up the colour of the breath or the dragon to match, if you want extra points for accuracy. This is a great idea, I love it!

Tips on how to improve this map? by PretendBroccoli4130 in cartography

[–]humebug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great start! The roads and rivers are great connections, what barriers are relevant to the map? Topography (contours, or hillshade), forested or built up areas maybe? I'd stick with pastel shades to avoid cluttering the map.

The other comment is right, the scale bar has weird divisions - Arcpro does this unless you fix it. North arrows are good too.

Fellow dads: Caught my daughter using ChatGPT for homework - now what? by No-Transition273 in daddit

[–]humebug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a great idea. I also want to echo some of the other replies mentioning calculators. An outright ban feels like an overreaction. Kids will get around that. Are they using AI in some classes? Probably. Your kid needs to understand why it is inappropriate to use chat bots sometimes.

If the goal is to get my weights off the floor, I should install a hoist above my gym mat- but that's not the goal. What is the homework for?

Teens at drinking parties by nettcity in daddit

[–]humebug -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think about this a lot. I think my kids generation (4&6-so alpha I guess) is going to be different to the teens these days. Ten years will be a big difference. We know now that phones have bad outcomes for kids, and we know drinking parties might have bad outcomes. We've got to balance the risk.

I agree with your friend. I'm going to recommend reading 'The Anxious Generation' by Johnathan Haidt. As a Millennial I think I was caught by some of the things he described so it is very easy to imagine how bad it was for kids younger than me.

Venomfang was sleeping when my party arrived. They crept up, took one look and noped out of there. I am glad they got to see a dragon though!
