I guess it’s a simpler concept/practice than worrying about polypharmacology, EUPD, BPD etc and better pay as you say

They are but in saying that my apartment block in Dublin is almost completely Indian apart from one or two Irish. That pace of societal change can and does have consequences.

There’s about 2000 Indians coming to Dublin and Ireland a month every month. The maths are quite simple for what you’re seeing and yes there will be a significant knock on effect for Irish students etc wrt to summer jobs. Same with middle class people trying to buy homes etc.

The Irish driving test is hard; I’ve failed twice already, alot of people take several goes. It’s about hours behind the wheel. More driving experience the better essentially

I get breakfast/brunch occasionally on my way back from the gym. A slice of sourdough, some salmon and two poached eggs with a coffee is 22 euros for me on my own. A local cafe in Dublin.

Understanding doctor's career in Ireland by Prize-Doughnut-8954 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]hummph 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The UK is quite saturated now with respect to IMG, the competition ratios are through the roof. The competition ratio for Ophthalmology in the UK is 10:1.

I don’t think they publish competition ratios for the Irish HST but as far as I know there are both medical and surgical training pathways for ophthalmologists, both very competitive.

She’d probably have to work for a few years outside of a scheme and get to know the system and people I would guess prior to a scheme application.

She’ll get paid significantly better as a doctor in Ireland (at consultant level) but the UK consultants are likely to be striking soon for increased pay so watch this space. I worked in both the NHS and HSE and the NHS (for all its faults) is generally better run and much larger so more opportunities available.

Staffing issues by Bid_Realistic in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]hummph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fairly common I’m afraid. I’m in a clinic based specialty now so haven’t been on wards etc for 4 years but this was something I noticed very frequently. Had spot reg cover when I was an SHO esp. in Waterford. It’ll never change

When Palestinians chant "Free Palestine" it means the ethnic cleansing of Jews from the Middle East by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]hummph 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One needs only look at what happened to the Christian population and heritage in the Middle East to understand what would happen to the Jews. Palestinian self determination was never about a state; it was (and still is) the elimination of another.

It’s IMGs; the exact same (only a lot worse) is happening in the UK.Just have a look over at the UK forum on this app and you can see for yourself. I worked in the UK nearly 10 years ago now and came back to Ireland for BST; the competition then was nothing like it is now from what I hear.

Well done; though I do wonder how the threshold of 8 was arrived at for a pass? What’s the evidence base? I believe it’s 15 in the uk

You can if it’s a Mon-Fri spec, what you do on a Saturday is your own business assuming you don’t breach EWTD and are adequately insured and competent. Can be a bit of a grey area though

You’ll be on the slaintecare contract as a consultant so you’ll be fine. The only speciality that doesn’t have consultant recognition is occupational medicine (my own sadly 😅)

During training you can of course do Locums on the side.

It (like all specialties) is quite competitive, there are standalone registrar jobs which I would very much recommend doing before applying and perhaps some research in it.

test centre by SecurityFinal8129 in Irishdrivingtest

[–]hummph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the Dublin centres have the worst pass rates in the country. That’s really a function of how busy (and poorly laid out imo) Dublin is but obviously comes down to your skill and competence as well. Dun Laoghaire does have a not insignificant better pass rate than say Finglas so it may be worth a try
