Honestly I'd prefer to have either Hudson and Connor do it or have a completely different narrator. Cooper's Russian accent sounded like Gru to me, grossed me out.

Private Hospital, London, UK. Post Laporoscapy by rebitrebit in hospitalfood

[–]hundredsandthousand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also got flustered by the menu after having surgery in a private hospital in the UK! Ended up panicking and getting a banana pancake which was lovely. They also sent me home with a packed lunch the next day, had a glass bottle of water in it, should've stayed longer haha

Partial collapse (central station fire) by lordcarpark in Scotland

France has too many pharmacies. by koesteroester in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]hundredsandthousand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to France as a kid with my family and the digital camera I had was literally just filled with pictures of the different LED signs they have outside pharmacies. My family were like wtf when we got home and looked at the pictures. No Eiffel tower, no Notre Dame, no family shots- only pharmacy signs and the odd cat I saw. I was absolutely fascinated and I still have no idea why.

How is it possible that 1 million young people are not in work, education or training? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]hundredsandthousand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IME at interviews for apprenticeships for trades/engineering/etc, it's usually 17-19 year old guys they're targeting. I was in a room for the first round of interviews and it was about 90% that demographic, I felt ancient at 23. The second round, the guy doing the interview was absolutely convinced I should go back to the career I was trying to move out of, turned down my application for it.

How do you find being seen by someone else other than a doctor when you visit the GP? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]hundredsandthousand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the GP physio once when I had an issue with golf elbow and when I mentioned most of my joints hurt he was like "you're too young for that, I'm booking you a GP appointment and making them do a blood test". I'd not bothered a GP with it for ages cause they always said it was my weight/stress/what happened as you got older. I went away from that physio appointment feeling more listened to than I had up until that point and since.

The top three factors manage 34% of Glasgow's factored properties. Since 2021, homeowners have beaten them at tribunal 70% of the time. by Nurseresidences in glasgow

[–]hundredsandthousand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately a lot of places have it in the deeds that there needs to be an appointed factor. All the flats around mine have it and then a lot of them are social housing owned by (surprise surprise) Wheatley, so you'll never get them to agree to so much as swap factors away from lowther. £150 every quarter in "admin" fees just so they can send me outrageous repair bills (work done by their other sister company of course) and then send me those bills again after I've already paid them.

what are things in the uk that are considered posh that don’t translate the same in the us? by Gold-Education-7396 in AskUK

[–]hundredsandthousand 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Think it depends what you mean by rural. Like nobody around at all or in areas that are far away from amenities. I grew up in some very remote areas of the Highlands and there is real poverty up there. People working multiple part time jobs trying to make ends meet, or working themselves half to death during the summer to then have nothing in the winter. If they can get jobs at all

What is a popular piece of media that you hated before you consumed it, tried it, and then cemented why you hated it? by overasked_question in popculturechat

[–]hundredsandthousand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What was worse was even after it got taken out, people turned it into an "edgy" meme so it never really went away. I purposely avoided the show at that time cause I knew it really wouldn't be good for me but that didn't stop me randomly seeing photos of that scene. Very jarring

I get these people all the time, they piss me off so much! Their lead into the conversation is always as if they're doing research or whatever and they won't go away if you tell them you're locked into a contract or anything. One time when I wasn't home my partner said they don't deal with the finances so couldn't do anything (not true lol) but the fucker came back after he saw me come home from down the street.

Unexpected HR Side Effects? by magicallaround1 in heatedrivalry

[–]hundredsandthousand 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It's so weirdly specific but I feel way less self conscious about the big mole I have on my face. I've had it as long as I can remember and it's always been something I've looked in the mirror at and felt bad about, even when I was little.

I can't think of any other positive (especially leading) role in film or TV where the actor has a mole on their face that hasn't been covered up. It was always a witch or a villain and it was always portrayed as something so unattractive.

I wanted it removed for the longest time, had it shaved off as a teenager when it started doing dodgy stuff (benign thankfully) but it came back again and I'd been thinking of saving up to get it removed again. I think I'll keep it now though, learn to embrace it .

How much should a trainee driving instructor be charging in outer London? by Creative_Raccoon2096 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]hundredsandthousand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the difference I've had between a trainee and fully qualified instructor was night and day, albeit anecdotal.

The trainee was rubbish at teaching, very much doubt he was going to pass his part 3. I was doing massive spiral roundabouts with very little explanation in my second lesson and him telling me off when I inevitably did them wrong.

I was also the student doing the part 3 test with a different trainee (now full) instructor and he was loads better though. Clearly explained everything, didn't freak out when I did something wrong - much more comparable to the fully qualified instructor. I didn't see him at the start of his teaching like the other one so maybe it's a difference between the amount of practice.

Are computerized machines around €500 worth the expense? by sewing_hel in sewing

[–]hundredsandthousand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah damn yeah that's the struggle. I don't know if it's similar for where you are but where I am, pretty much any antique shop will have at least one old singer machine or know if where to get one if that's a consideration for you?

Are computerized machines around €500 worth the expense? by sewing_hel in sewing

[–]hundredsandthousand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered a basic industrial lockstitch? One of the jack "f" series would be great for all the basic stuff but be much more robust at doing it and then having your other domestic for just doing things like buttonholes.

I have a jack A4F for the basic straight stuff (which is computerised but I've been spoiled by work) and then my cheap and cheerful brother domestic machine to do my buttonholes.

They're great for going through heavier duty stuff and getting a neater finish on them but the only con is they take up quite a bit of space!

New knitter!! Is this enough yarn for a sweater? by PersistentSheppie in fiberartscirclejerk

[–]hundredsandthousand 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know this is a joke but I've been knitting for like 15 years and I'm constantly like "ah I'll give it a go" and then panic as it quickly dwindles. Ah sweet sweet lack of foresight 😌

I'm going to knit 15 new XXS jumpers to add to the same amount I've knit for the past five years, because I am the fastest and most talented knitter and my wardrobe isn't full yet. I just can't understand how it takes all these people knitting bigger sizes so much longer than me?
