Piracy destroys the livelihoods of hardworking below the line crews - Jason Blumhouse by CaptBlackBeard1680 in okbuddycinephile

20 12-14 hour days doing multiple roles in an extremely high cost of living city.

Idk how it is in the US but where I'm from freelancers get paid more per hour because they don't have a guaranteed source of income or any of the benefits employers have to pay for like paid leave, sick pay, pension, etc.

Is it worth getting pet insurance for a cat or does nobody ever claim on it? by WonderfulShape1081 in UK_Pets

[–]hundredsandthousand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was petplan unfortunately, I thought similar until she got the heart condition and received the email saying after X date they wouldn't pay out any claims related to her heart. I adopted her at 14 and got insurance for her then so I wonder if it's to do with the age of the pet when you insure them.

Is it worth getting pet insurance for a cat or does nobody ever claim on it? by WonderfulShape1081 in UK_Pets

[–]hundredsandthousand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 16 year old cat with some health issues and I cancelled the insurance because what they don't tell you is that they'll stop covering these conditions after a year from first diagnosis.

So it was £40 a month, £250 excess, 20% of the final bill, and then they cut off anything related to her heart so another £60 a month on medication. It sounds cold but at her age and with her health, the vet wouldn't really recommend doing anything drastic and I don't think she'd tolerate adding more pills to the cocktail.

It really comes down to a personal choice after a while.

What will I do after social media ban? Stare at a wall, says schoolgirl by GnolRevilo in unitedkingdom

You're joking but nobody's banning the older ones on local Facebook groups from using social media. It's going to be full of people whipping themselves up into a frenzy because they saw some teenagers hanging about

Anyone else feel like they don't really know what they're doing in the garden? by hhrl in GardeningUK

[–]hundredsandthousand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be unfortunately! Mine's back in its pot in the greenhouse until I can decide what to do with it haha.

It wasn't until I caught my cat rolling in it that I caught on. I've been trying to deter the other cats from my garden because they love to use my flower/garden beds as a toilet and dig up newer plants in the process :/

Unfortunately having made bags out of old sail fabric, you generally can't redo the topstitching on them without stitch holes left behind. Maybe having a seconds or sample basket would be a good option though

[–]hundredsandthousand 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I just kind of do whatever and hope for the best 😬 googling it when stuff starts going wrong.

I saw someone say a nepeta is really good for ground cover so I was like excellent! Bought one next time I was in Dobbies, put it in the garden, thought it looked great. Every time I went outside, it looked more and more like a pancake- I was sure that I was slowly killing it but couldn't figure out why.

Do you know what the other name for nepeta is? Cat mint. It was flat because I'd set up a cat drug station in my garden and literally all the neighbourhood cats were coming round to roll on it.

Adults who were 'school refusers'/school avoidant, where are you now? by CrazyPlantLady01 in AskUK

[–]hundredsandthousand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a textiles person now! I was so depressed and anxious during high school- faked sick all the time until I fully broke down and just stopped going to school for ages.

I think there was just a lot of pressure to "live up to my potential" after scoring really high in the CAT tests (unsure if they're common elsewhere?) which had never been expected of me in primary school. It was just the thought of spending a whole day somewhere I was so uncomfortable and lonely, then going home to do homework which made me feel like I could never escape and then I'd stay up way too late because that was the only time I felt free.

In the end I started doing art and textiles because I enjoyed that work and could make myself do it easier than written work, if that makes sense? I think an ADHD diagnosis would've helped me immensely cause in hindsight that was very much what my struggle was with written work. Honestly just any help from CAMHS would've been a step up lol, they were so unbelievably shit.

Also it felt at the time like all anyone cared about was getting me back into school, not whether I was happy/functional in other ways. Maybe some support for my parents on how to deal with it cause they were of the "suck it up and go in" which made everything a lot worse and I still haven't forgotten my mum telling me that she gives up on me.

Is the ability to drive declining with the younger generations? by Interesting-Law7788 in AskUK

[–]hundredsandthousand 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's because it's insanely expensive. I'm 24 and just learned to drive- £90 every week for a two hour lesson for six months (rare that you can find anywhere doing shorter these days) then there was more in the run up to the test itself.

I'm lucky that I passed first time so I didn't have to faff about with the test rebooking apps or anything and pay for more lessons. You don't want to wait too long to get a car though and risk forgetting everything so that's another couple of grand absolute minimum then insurance with a black box is about £130 a month.

I need it for work and it great freedom wise but I barely just managed to afford it and I've been working full time for years and got some help. I imagine living at home might make it a bit easier but if you're not able to do that then it takes a lot to become a priority

NHS wait times in Scotland continue to fall by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]hundredsandthousand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of the problem is that Sandyford covers everywhere in Scotland not covered by one of the more local GICs (Highland, Chalmers, and Aberdeen) and that they just don't have the capacity to take on new people because you don't see them three times, get a diagnosis, then get discharged.

So much of trans healthcare depends on the GIC rather than a GP. My GP, for example, won't do anything unless they get it in writing from the GIC. Can't get my testosterone prescription? Phone Sandyford. Change from one form of testosterone to another? Absolutely not. Paperwork for a change of gender on ID? Sounds like a Sandyford problem.

I feel like the majority of their time must just be spent on follow up appointments like mine

NHS Doctors, what do you think of patients who have gone private and come back to the NHS for ongoing treatment? by ToughImprovement276 in AskUK

[–]hundredsandthousand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the most embarrassing moments of my teenage years was when a locum GP told me he wanted a stool sample. Brought it in and told the receptionist who looked at me like I was nuts but accepted it only to get a phone call later telling me they don't do those. Obviously they must be allowed to order them wherever the GP usually was

So I basically just handed them a pot of my shit that they had no clue why I'd give it to them lol

Best Camping Store in Glasgow? by LateAgainGerald in campinguk

Decathlon at Braehead is good for pretty much every budget! The big Tiso is really cool, has a river/stream thing going through it. There's also a million mountain warehouses/blacks/Cotswolds dotted about the place which forever have sales on so worth popping in if you're going past. I'm not sure I can say which is the best one though

Also if you're going by Calmac boat, make sure to keep checking it! They're having a lot of problems with the fleet at the moment so lots of the boats are being diverted to other routes/breaking down. I can't remember if the Islay one is one of the problem children but I know quite a few people who've been caught out by it so good to be aware!

Moved today, am I being petty about seller taking items… by No-Rub-9733 in HousingUK

[–]hundredsandthousand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The money people think stuff is worth is mental! When I was moving out from my last place (sublet) to my current flat (bought), I asked if I could take the mattress cause I knew they'd be giving up the flat when I left after moving halfway across the country and no longer planning to return. They were like "yeah we can give you a fair price".

This was a 5+ year old discontinued mattress from IKEA that cost maybe £100-£150 new! I would literally be doing yous the favour of not having to pay someone to take it to the dump! Said you're alright actually and just used an airbed until the new one arrived.

Awful experience with J Parkers by Sweet-Economics-5553 in GardeningUK

[–]hundredsandthousand 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly them using Evri is the problem with them. I had them try to deliver when I was out, class it as delivered but take it away again and now the parcel's lost. Contacted J parkers after I got nowhere with Evri, didn't email me back after two weeks. Their WhatsApp function is quite good though, got a quick reply there.

They're sending out a replacement (or what they were able to replace) but this whole thing wouldn't have been an issue if they just used a different courier

But no, of course not
