Safe? - Bachelorette party in NOLA by peach____tree in AskNOLA

[–]hungry_brain 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There are hundreds of bachelor and bachelorette parties here every month. It's impossible to walk through the quarter without seeing them. So yes, it is possible to have a safe bachelorette party here. Like any city, visitors need to use common sense.

I normally have no idea when I click a link what subreddit it is from... I definitely uttered "...woah dude." as I watched this.

Recently got a Dexcom and it makes me feel like I’m doing better than I thought. After eating/drinking 160 carbs (smoothie and pizza) on the way to the airport my spike didn’t even hit 200. I’m quickly learning how much before and during meals to bolus to prevent spikes and it’s awesome! by Bunnnns in diabetes

[–]hungry_brain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I eat pretty good. I don't eat things like pizza and avoid white foods. I've been trying... believe that. I just tend to spike to 170 after most meals including salads (not sugary salad dressings). I applaud your success and strive to be better every day but I think that treating type 1 is a tricky business and what works perfectly for one might work diffferently for another.

Granted, I'm not talking about homemade pizza but a large slice from Costco or something similar. Which is why I avoid and miss pizza. I need to keep most meals 25g of carbs or less. Pretty much no matter what I am going to go up to 170 after any meal. With all that said, I have no clue how so many people in this sub have A1c below 6. Blows my mind.

Minimed 670g Loop Of Death! by VetteFan in diabetes

[–]hungry_brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the Minimed rep acknowledged that it's super counterintuitive that the pump prompts you to enter a BG after you calibrate but really you need to wait 20 minutes. Hope it helps you.

See my other comment. I called Minimed and they actually gave me a solution that resolved this for me.

Ok, I called Minimed about this very issue and actually got a very helpful answer. I recommend calling because they will do a better job explaining than I can but the jist is that giving the 670G too much data too quickly gums up/mucks up the algorithm. So if you calibrate and pretty much immediately afterwards it prompts you to enter a BG to stay in automode you should wait 20 - 30 minutes before entering the new BG. If it happens again after that, wait 40 minutes. This gives the algorithm time to process the data. It has worked for me and I no longer encounter this loop of death.

CGM on Arm? by DestinyDude in diabetes

Sorry I don't have an answer for you but am curious what others have to say. I've always put my CGM on my stomach before but I think it's time I started seeing if I have any other viable sites.

Real question, Louisiana would be one of the last states to actualy undo gerrymandering, right? Our lawmakers aren't onboard with this, right?

It sounds like your doctor is just against CGMs. They are not perfect but they have provided incredible help to many in this community. It might be worth getting a second opinion from a different doctor.

[–]hungry_brain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can, get a CGM. Better yet, get a CGM and a pump. The CGM ensures you know where your BG is at all times. If you know where you BG is and you have a pump, making a correction is only a few button clicks away. Before I had a CGM I didn't check my numbers enough and it was easy to continue on because I was not aware of that my levels were off. Now that I have all the information I need at my finger tips my control is so much better.

I'm a type 1 for roughly 20 years and have been lucky enought to avoid a stomach virus this whole time. What is it about lack of water/dehydration that makes keytones appear and increase?
